I tried a search on the subject but I couldn’t find anything so… Am I really the only snuffeur (the french-ish sounds very steampunk to me =D) who’s also curious about the *other* nice smells?
I found quite a few when I googled ‘essential oils’ food safe of course. Also if you are like me and adore menthol snuffs Ebay has a number of folks selling like 1/4 lbs of it which would make like tons of it for about Ten bucks plus shipping. I tried some rose petals, but I picked them way too late in the season. Now the container has soggy snuff in it with the smell of lawn clippings. I will fix it with something or other. I will see if the local flower shop has a few of them which have a nice scent, gardenias are listed on quite a few snuffs. I have been wanting to try out the ‘frieberg and treyer’ I think that is the name of the company. They have two I want to try out ‘Macouba’ and "Morocco’ they both sound exotic and I want them bad. Hope the idea about oils helps. Best of luck. It is a fun effort to try to make em. I wonder if Roderick at Toque started that way. His snuff is awesome, I wish he would make something like the Morroco and Macouba…I would grab up some right away.
Stuff that smells nice is sort of an obsession with me. Besides the Snuff, I do Aromatherapy and burn incense regularly. My friend who owns a smoke shop and I were getting a little silly and obsessed over a huge bag of Peter Stokkebye pipe Tobacco he had just gotten in a shipment. The customers must have thought we were nuts as we were constantly hoisting this 3 Kg plastic pillow sized thing and sniffing it. There’s myriad other things I enjoy the smell of. Probably too many to mention.
Me like things smell good. Brings out the primal side of me. :b @ graybeard19 I recomemend trying the entire Fribourg and Treyer line of snuffs. Just have a go at it and order them all, you will not regret it.
Erm… I meant *actual* perfumes =) Today I spent a few hours reading a forum for perfume-heads, and the kind of talk is suspiciously similar to the one you get here (except they talk about stuff with names like XYZ Pour Homme etc). I, for one, would absolutely love to try my hand at creating a perfume, but I suppose I’d better study first, if I don’t want to waste several hundred euros on producing something that smells like cat wee…
I make fragrance products as a hobby. Bath salts, scented massage oils, incense, and so forth. I love experimenting with various essential oils, resins, and other natural ingredients to come up with new scents.
I would probably be a good “nose” for a perfumery company. The problem is that I prefer essential oils to commercially available perfumes and Cologne. Chypre scents are the closest I get to doing the stuff the industry seems to like trotting out as the next big thing. Easy to make at home and a lot cheaper than Paco or Chanel.
I’ll give my money to Chanel anytime as I have done since 1978-then it was mam’s money, my first toiletry set and it worked, too well.
You guys scare me.
I love smelling ladies, from head to toe.
I am getting visuals… Some Frightened Lady: What is he doing!?! Associate of Pieter: Oh that’s just Pieter. He loves sniffing ladies from thier head to their toes. Pieter: _*Sniffing frantically*_Still Frightened Lady: Is he tame? Associate of Pieter: Well, he is house broken… Pieter: _*Takes a nibble at her thigh and howls like a wolf*_Now Terrified Lady: _*Screams and runs in terror*_Associate of Pieter: *Retrieves snuff box for Pieter* Good boy!
Just to make things clear: I wear men’s fragrances and buy women perfumes as gifts. In France, you can attend perfumier courses or whatever they are called. That’s one thing I’ve always wanted to do. I really like France and the attitude of French people.
Me too Allan at least the french people I’ve met, which I know is not a really a good sample. Though the french people I’ve met seem to think that life is for living and that our senses are a gift. I agree plus the sense of humour flitted between silly and light and grim and sarcastic with grace the way I like. Then again it could just be the french people I"ve met.
