For all you snuffers that have moved or bought a new house. Has it been as stressfull and crazy for you as it has been for me? It seems up until closing the bank is finding all these little problems we have to take care of. I’m scared to get excited about the new house because once they say “okay, everything looks good we are good to go”. Something else comes up. I just can’t wait for this whole mindless process to end! What was your home buying experience? Smooth or full of pot holes like mine?
Pure hell was mine and it’s getting worse.
Ah - I’m house hunting at the moment, and already I’m stressed out. Can’t imagine how it’s going to be when we find a place.
I just bought a house and the home buying process was pretty smooth for me.
@Lockwoodhorne Your in the honeymoon stage right now… wait till you gotta deal with all the paperwork, realtors and bank crap. A real blast! @AllanH So much for the American Dream huh? LOL
Thanks mate - I can hardly wait! I’m already f*&k£d of with the Realtors/Estate agencies. It’s like trying to choose to deal with rattlesnakes or jackyls. I don’t know how they sleep at night.
go with the jackels they’re actualy nice animals very domesticatable cept for the smell.
I hate the idea of moving my “junk” somewhere else. There are some cultures that burn their dwellings and walk away a free man with no attachments. I don’t advise this Snuff/Puff, (at least until you have the buyers contract in hand) but it makes a person think.
The girlfriend and I bought a home when we where both 20 years old it was hell on earth.
I bought a foreclosed home 3 years ago, and it wasn’t the easiest thing. Since it was a foreclosed home the property deed had to change 3 times (Former resident to Bank to me), and it took the Recorder’s office a year to change it to the bank’s name, and that took alot of running around pleading for any of the miserable government bureaucrats to hear me out and try to help someone for a chance. Who knows how long they would of took to file it if I didn’t go down there and say something. It pushed my closing date way off, and I am still pissed off about it! LOL
We bought and refinanced during the heyday of easy financing thank God. I can’t imagine what it must be like these days. Hang in there and it’ll get done eventually!
I moved to a new apartment between Christmas and New Year’s Day, and that was bad enough. I don’t even want to think about the headaches involved in buying a house. But the new apartment beats the hell out of the old one, so I can’t complain.
Like Pipensnusnsnuff, my wife and I also moved to a new apt. about 5-6 months ago. Moving in itself is a royal pain in the @$$ as it is. You never realize how much crap you’ve accumulated until you start packing it up and transporting it! I’m not looking forward to buying a home at this moment. I kind of like the freedom that comes with renting, in that I’m not BOUND to this place, and I can get up and leave if I wanted to. Somehow, buying a place would make me lose that sense of freedom but hopefully the sense of accomplishment that comes with ownership would out-weigh it…
I used a moving company. They broke some stuff, but it was still much better than doing it myself and burdoning my friends with the task. Cost me about 400 bucks to move across town, but was worth it…bigtime. They even set up the bed and put the furnature where I wanted it!.
I’m still waiting for house prices to come down to a “true value” level before I buy. After that, I have a lot of people that owe me favors that I will call in for the moving bit.
@Bart - That sounds like a good idea right about now. @Dave - The “easy financing” days are definately over never to be seen again. Our banker basically told us that the banks got greedy and screwed it up for everybody (and almost ruined the nations economy at the same time). They now make it almost impossible to get financed for housing. It is very frustrating.
The wife and i bought our house 5 years ago. Other then the normal lawyers and paper work… ( christ our mortgage is done this december…great!), we had family help out a lot! Wasn’t that bad, just a pain in the ass.
@nightcap Wow that’s awesome about getting the mortgage payed off! Especially with the mini cap on the way. =)
We bought our house from Mrs S’s grandparents in 2006, who had owned the place since it was new. They generously sold it to us for 20% less than its value at the time, thus we avoided the nightmare of down payments and PMI (having a 20% gift of equity), so I walked out of my rental house and straight into this one with barely a ripple on the monthly payment. No realtors, no inspections, no BS. We sat down with them at a titling agency, signed our names to about 639 pieces of paper and that was it! Of course, now our house isn’t worth a bag of farts like everybody else’s, but hey, the summer taxes aren’t so bad anymore either!
@nightcap Wow! Mortgage paid off in 5 years, that’s an awesome job! Wish I could do that. You’ll be living the good good life in december with no mortgage payment.
Oh shit!! Sorry guys, I meant done as In, up for re negotiation for the next 5 years for the interest rate. As in the term was done. wish the damn thing was paid off but it looks like another 25 or so years to go. My fault for not typing properly.
