OT My little black gun

I’m no big time collector, but yesterday picked up a barely used 9mm semi auto, the Glock 19c. The “c” stands for compensated, and refers to the barrel being ported. This reduces recoil and muzzle lift, promoting a faster followup shot. The piece field strips into four components in less than 30 seconds. Cleaning is a snap. If I ever need to replace the barrel, all I need do is drop in a new one. No threading to get fouled up. The gun can even be dry fired without damaging the mechanism. The sights are great. Altogether I got the gun, two 15 round factory mags and a really decent holster for $400. I think I did ok.

Hi stich, are you going to use the gun to fire snuffbullets up your nose?

I had to carry guns for 20 years. Glocks are fine firearms but I guess the question is what are you going to use it for? You probably got a good buy on it for the price. Is this for self-defense, carrying at work, or just target shooting? Thank God I never had to actually shoot anyone with a handgun but I did have the occasional need to whip the living daylights out of a few turds and was glad to have a solid steel chunk of S&W in my hand when the situation arose. Something I can’t say for the plastic Glock. Bottom line on combat guns is this: handguns suck at stopping humans, you have to bleed them out or destroy the central nervous system to effectively stop them. Rifles and shotguns are much better suited for the purpose. I’m a proponent of the Nike defense system but for those times when I’m jammed in a corner and need to get out, give me a snub nosed .38 revolver that I can shove into someone’s stomach and empty six fast ones. And don’t forget the army of civil and criminal defense lawyers you’ll need. Unless you’re in rural Afghanistan you’ll be facing a grand jury after pulling that trigger. As for dry firing, any center-fire worth a crud should be able to take dry firing. In fact, dry firing should be your daily practice routine. Set a nickle on top of the gun and dry fire it without knocking the coin off. Trigger pull and recoil anticipation are 90% of the technique.

One of the few things I like in this world more than snuff is guns. I’d say you got a pretty good deal on that glock. For me there are many manufacturers I would go with before glock, and many calibers I’d take over 9mm, but to each his own. My little black gun is a Beretta 9000s is .40 S&W.

Nice buy stitch! I do have a few little black guns. I have 1 Glock, model 33 .357 sig.

I also love guns and rifles, grew up on a farm and owned my first BSA airgun at the age of 8. Like all SA citizens in days gone by, I did military training and I loved going to the shooting range. I own 2 handguns, a 7.65 Walther PPK and a 9mm Star with 4 inch barrel. I like the Walther more because it’s a compact little gun. The Star is to big and heavy to carry around and I’m considering getting rid of it.

Pieter, have you ever had to actually use one against another person in actual defense?

Hi Spyro, no, never fired a gun directly at another person but I did did use it twice to make a “private arrest”. I also fired some warning shots to make some basterds run. I carry the Walther in an open holster on my belt whenever I go out at night. In our “wonderful” country carrying a gun is as normal as brushing your teeth. But, if you actually kill someone, you are in for big trouble. One must PROOF that your life was in danger. We have a case here where a guy shot and killed a burglar in his house AFTER the burglar killed the guys brother, in the same house. The guy is up for murder now because he could not proof that the burglar intended to kill him as well.

I carry a Sig Sauer P226 myself. It’s been a very reliable gun thus far for me. Any time I execute a search warrant I’m sure to have a good ole fashioned shotgun along with me. As far as the Glock, right now it is all the rage with new officers coming on the job. About 90% buy the same gun as you did stitch. I had a chance to fire one when I was on vacation this past summer in Florida and I must say it is a very smooth easy to fire pistol no doubt. Enjoy and be safe…

Guns…gotta love em I tried to post a photo but I can’t get it to work. Its a JPG file. Anyone have a clue how to post this? Please whisper me if you can help me with this. thanks

Off Topic ???

Thanks for all the comments and good wishes. Yesterday I went off shooting with two friends in the Tonto National Forest, about two mile from where I live. I love it. The barrel porting really makes a huge difference, and the recoil was much less than my 9x18 Makarov pistol with Hogue grips. As for accuracy, I was hitting sand filled milk jugs at fifty feet very reliably. Next time I’ll pay the range fee and punch some standard targets. There is a rail under the barrel for mounting a tactical light or laser sight. I’d love to try this with a laser dot. Ooooooh. I’ll answer a few questions that came up. I am not in law enforcement, but where I live it would take the sheriff’s deputy a rather long time to respond to a situation. Also neighbors back each other up, and I’d be more likely to call in my pal Frank from across the wash - a former US Army ranger. If one of us ended up dispatching an intruder, the other would swear it was self defense. I have never shot anyone, held anyone at gunpoint or fired warning shots. Let’s hope that will never become necessary. But I was a boy scout, and “be prepared” is still my motto in these matters. Pieter, we have similar laws and customs in Arizona. Unless a concealed carry permit is obtained, firearms must be worn/ kept in plain sight. I ride a motorcycle. When I have a holster on my belt, it’s amazing how much more courteous the other drivers are. Without the gun, I’ve almost been run off the road. I hadn’t thought about using the Glock to pistol whip someone. Fully load, it’s still almost two pounds and I think it would crack all but the thickest skulls. I can accept that trade off with the increased comfort of carrying a lighter gun, faster and steadier aiming. As for stopping power, the 9mm is at the lower end of acceptability as a defensive round. But with jacketed hollow points it is still quite effective and these help prevent over penetration and collateral damage. If the situation calls for it I have rifles and a shotgun too!

My old man has a FN Browning model 1910/22 made for the Kingdom of Yugoslavia by FN(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom\_of\_Yugoslavia) 9mm model, looks quite nice indeed. Presonally,I’d like to own an AMT Hardballer Longslide.

Recently picked up a Kimber 45 Stainless II (all ss). Guy I bought it from had fired only one clip before selling it to me. MINT! 400 bucks with case and 2 extra clips!!! I think he was a little intimidated by it. Beautiful gun that is a dream to shoot. @Pieter. I have a Walther PPK in 380 that I will never give up. Nice little piece! Tom

@bakdoor. Nice buy there. You scored.

Thanks a bunch for the info on how to post photos. Ok here we go… I love my faternal twin Mausers

Nice collection. A lot of side by side & single’s but where’s the over under? Got to love the pump .22, those are fun.

I used to carry a PPK when I worked under cover. I liked it but most of the guys complained about the trigger pull. Seemed 10mm was all the rage when I retired. I don’t even carry a gun anymore. Pepper Spray and a stout walking stick is all I wield. But if some fool enetered my house, I’d smoke em. Enjoy your nice collection. I’ve seen a lot of people get into gun collecting. Personally, I’m just so so sick of cleaning them and lugging them around. I don’t even care to hunt anymore.

Hello Pieter Claassen I recently watched this video about Johannesburg ( are you near there?) it looks a very dangerous place. You can see 1-6 part video on you tube here: video link
