OT: Icehockey

J

I’m so stoked, Finland won the Championship finals against Sweden 6 - 1. Yay! Did anyone else watch the game, is anyone interested at all? It was really weird, watched it in a pub. A lot of folks showed intrest towards snuff. I offered several tasters and gifted couple of tins. Now It’s five in the morning and I’m having some Sharrow’s Irish High toast and some domestic lager. I’m extatic. And late for work tomorrow. But so is everyone else. Best regards jari http://sports.nationalpost.com/2011/05/15/finland-crushes-sweden-for-world-gold/

M

Honestly, as a Canadian, I am pretty happy to be seeing the Canucks making it so far this time!

A

I got a text about this last night from a Finnish friend and checked the highlights online. Well done, Finland winning Sweden in final! It’s like Ireland beating England.

A

I follow ice hockey a little bit, like Winter Olympics and NHL Stanley Cup but this year totally forgot the World Championship, there are some sports bars in Dublin which show hockey matches, normally I’d gone there.

J

I was in Dublin with my girlfriend sometime in the early 90’s and we were passing a sports bar/pub when I noticed a sign in the front: “Today - Football; Finland-England”. Now, I’m not a big football fan and neither was my girlfriend, but somehow we couldn’t pass this opportunity. In we went. I don’t even remember the final numbers (1-1?) but I do recall that Finland scored first. When the locals learned that we were Finns there was no end with rounds of drinks. Great night!

W

I don’t know that much about Ice Hockey, I only watch it at the Winter Olympics, but my friend’s girlfriend is a big Sheffield Steelers fan, (English domestic team), and follows them all over the country. I think there are only about a dozen pro teams here, but all the games get good crowds and it’s popularity is increasing. Stefan

A

Belfast Giants are doing well in the British league and ice hockey is secular sport in the north of Ireland, which is a good thing. Game is such great fun to watch!

W

@Allan that’s good to hear, thank God the Irish can be united in sport rather that using it for sectarian purposes. I might nip into Sheffield and watch the Steelers one day, apparently it is a great atmosphere, and a good day out. I watch football regularly, and now cricket now the season is starting. Why not make it Ice Hockey too? I’ve got to try it. Stefan

B

Im not too big of a hockey fan, but I hope the Canucks win the cup!

M

Yeah, it has bloody been 16 years, 'bout time! Glad I wasn’t at my folks watching it tho, would prolly have come out of it with ruptured eardrums. Some people are just a tad fanatical about hockey. On that note: IHANAA, LEIJONAT IHANAA!

N

Go boys go!!

A

I’m cheering for Canucks this time, hope they win the cup.

N

GO CANUCKS!!!

M

YES! Canuck fans

N

@MikeMoose Well, technically a Habs fan. But when you’re down to the last Canadian team, you gotta stick with your country!!

T

Go SMASHVILLE PREDATORS!!!

L

As a Ranger fan I feel for you @nightcap. First round losses. I’m not a habs hater at all. But I am a Bruins hater from the days when they had Orr and Espo and Cheevers and we had a good team, too with Park and Gilbert and our goalies. Also very sorry to have seen the Preds go down, @transistor . Then the Sharks bit it, and the Bolts. So, go Canucks!!! I friggin’ love the NHL playoffs as much as the NCAA basketball tournament.

A

Sedin brothers of Canucks are in their thirties! So times go by…

T

@least_weasel Oh really? Shucks- I haven’t been keeping up with them… they’re just local so…

R

Oops…Boston coming back… (Panthers fan and season ticket holder here) there is no other sport with the intensity of Stanley Cup Playoffs. Not a Canuck fan or a Boston fan, but the intensity of the Stanley Cup Finals is unmatched. LOL and as far as HABS…the most obnoxious fans in the NHL…lol they get drunk down here in Florida and puke in the stands…I still cannot believe it. I have Panthers/Canadians tickets for next season down here in south florida, Lexus Club level, row 1, if anyone interested. I will not go to that one next season! lol.

N

@Rans Those are the Quebec fans. The Ontario fans just get drunk!

K

Alberta fans just puke.

R

&nightcap, lmao!

L

@Rans @nightcap @KebAMP – Hilarious!

N

Anyone have the goods on the new team in Winnipeg? I hope they are keeping the Jets name.

R

I think it is the Atlanta Thrashers moving to winnipeg, and last I heard was staying “Thrashers”

A

Well, Bruins won the Cup. Congratulations, Boston!

C

Nothing shows pride in your team like burning down the town.

A

Ice hockey is the only thing Canadiens riot over. Cool.

L

Congrats Bruins and their fans. It hurts to type it, but I mean it.

N

I can’t say I would riot over my team losing, and I’m F’ing CANADIAN!! News was saying that there was a bunch of people “desguised” as fans but were really anorchists, part of cetain groups, etc… Who you going to believe? Anyway, the season is over and the Habs will win next year!!!

M

I am from Canada, and I live in BC… Not far from Vancouver… And I gotta say, what I saw, was pathetic… It makes me feel like I live close to a city full of Cavemen. Do we need to riot? No. Its a waste of our money, the tax payers. They just pissed away a ton of it because of that whole ordeal… I heard the whole anarchist thing too. But still, basically it boils down to people being stupid. Lets just stop being stupid… Its not that hard! Anyways. Better luck next time!

P

“anarchy” is just a name that immature little punks can slap on their anger to try to justify it. they are using a political movement that has been dead for decades as something to latch onto and replace the sad hole in their lives. I hope they find something constructive to do.

M

Agreed !

C

Agreed Pike. (As a mod I am obligated to tell you that we should keep this apolitical, even if I do agree!) I simply don’t understand the sense in destroying property over a stupid hockey game. When Orlando lost to LA in the NBA finals a few years ago we went to bed, not the streets. Stay classy Vancouver.
