Has anyone else got into smoking a hookah? I moved to an are where there are hookah lounges everywhere. I just bought one online for home use as well. Any favorite shishas? Likes and dislikes in general?

Chap at work said he smokes one in the evening. His favourite baccy is some kind of apple flavour.

Apple is very good. Its an odd technique, you inhale as though you are just breathing in as opposed to puffing like on a regular pipe and the smoke is deceptively cool; the tar must be off the scale although I guess the water filters some of it.

Yes, if you want to smoke your lungs just like a kipper this must be perfect for it.

The medical information is kind of strange more then better or worse. For example it seems to cause less disease but more likely to give you lung cancer faster. With a hooka you vap the tobacco. Of course this actualy seems like it would probably make an occasionaly hooka healthier then an occasional cig.

Cause the numbers I looked at are for regulary hooka smokers who don’t smoke anything else. Imagine smoking a hooka everytime you wanted some nicotine. imagine smoking a whole bowl everytime. Pretty crazy stuff.

I smoke my hookah everyday. I am a big hookah fan. Really i like all tobacco’s except cigarettes (although i still smoke them at work) Plain black hookah tobacco is the best in my opinion.

Favorite- Al Waha Plum. Smooth, sweet(lots of flavor), and huge clouds. Second choice- Romman Cinamon. Just like the candy to a candy apple.

I was thinking about trying shisha in my desktop vape. I tried pipe tobacco in it, and ugh… was that nasty. I think I vaped the casing right off. 20 seconds of nic buzz and 3 hours of incredibly nasty after-taste.

I have a friend from Germany and he says most of his friends and many people around 20 smoke a hookah. He hates cigarettes, pipes and snuff but looooooves the hookah.

I have a collection of 4 hookahs two made in Syria and two Kahlil Mamoons made in Egypt. Nakhla flavors are my favorite so far.

@Servetus - How does Nakhla compare to Romman shisha?

I have yet to try Romman, as I understand it, it is one of the better grades, probably much better than El Nakhla. I got the Nakhla primarily because it is more “old school” than many other brands.

Nakhla Zaghoul is much like pipe tobacco, strong, lots of vitamin N. Their coffee flavor was good, and strong as well. I have some Sweet Melon I’m going to try sometime. I recommend you join a few hookah forums www.hookahforum.com but a word of warning, if you even mention NHT (the “special herb”) you’ll get the banhammer! LOL

To answer @rdunnion from a few posts back, I smoke Nakhla Zaghoul, Nakhla Khan el Khalili, Salloum Plain, Desi Murli Plain, and Desi Murli Gold Plain. Those are all plain black shisha tobaccos that are excellent and fairly easy to find and order. I smoked my first head of Desi Murli Gold plain and cant even imagine how having it flavored would help. The taste is wonderful. It is very much like smoking the flavors of 6 photo with a very natural, slightly sweet taste. It is awesome.

I have a turkish hookah, my wife has a Kuwaiti hookah. Now that it is swimming weather, we will be in the pool making clouds all summer long. My favorite flavors are Al Fakher Watermelon, Al Waha Raspberry and Al Fakher Cola

I love hookah smoking but I restrict myself to using a friends if Im round at his place - otherwise I would just use it all day long and get lung rot. The problem is the smoke is so deceptively cool and fragrant.

Its not really smoke, but vapor from the honey and mollases.

I have heard nothing but good thing about Al Fakher so i bought a lot of 50grm flavors. Problem is- I cant get a decent smoke cloud w/out choking myself. I have tried using less coals, more coals, filling my bowl loose, filling it packed, and also filiing it w/Al Waha Plum. The last bit is the only solution that worked. I get wonderful clouds with 3 Kings. What kind of bowl do you use?

@Pot Poe - Check you rig for leaks. Its very simple. Just seal off the bowl with your hand and suck. If you get air there is a leak that needs to be rectified.

@potpoe have you looked to make sure your tobacco isnt touching your foil or screen? If it touches it will burn and become very harsh. You can also try moving one coal around the head often to make the heat a little lighter on the tobacco. If all else fails try double foil on the head and see if it will help. I also recommend natural coals. They are a trouble to get lit, but heat more evenly and and have less ash.

@servetus when you order your desi plain i highly recommend the Desi murli gold plain as well. If you order from hookah1 you will have to request to have it plain but he will do it for you. It is defiantly worth it.

I’d love to try hookah sometime but cash being a bit tight I don’t wanna necessarily jump in with both feet…might see if there’s a hookah lounge nearby but with Michigan’s new smoking ban I dunno if those were affected or not…

@James most states with indoor smoking bans only have hookah lounges in the summer (outdoors).

I have a hookah bar two blocks over from me…I like sisha every once in awhile, but not more than once a month at most. There just not enough tobacco flavour in my experience. Maybe its just the blends ive tried.

I have smoked hookah for about 4 years now. After having first tried it at a lounge, I proceeded to acquire my own hookah pipe and try various shisha. My favorite brands include Tangiers, Al Fakher, and Nakhla. Attactched below is a photo of my pipe.

I currently have Havana Watermelon , this stuff is sick ! Waha does not float my shisha boat anymore , but their Tropicana is good .

Been awhile since I’ve hit any of mine, but some AF Grape sounds really good about now.

When I had one ages ago I used to put a little something from the liquor store into the water to add a bit more flavor.

Sorry about taking so long to post about the Hobohookah. It smokes pretty good. nice little portable hookah. the bottom of the body is rubber and will fit inside or outside of most bottles. I have been using it on a makers Mark bottle.some pictures of it with my other hookahs.

I am trying to understand you light a charcoal then put some sugary flavor stuff on top and puff away? I bought one back in the 70 for $0.50 at a yard sale, didn’t use it right think the hose was cracked. I think it was burdock leaf my neighbor had.I didn’t inhale. I have too many vices as is, but I may give it a go if the occasion presents it self.

The charcoal goes on top of perforated aluminum foil which covers some moist, usually sweet flavored tobacco. The heat goes through the holes and heats up the tobacco. So it’s really more like primitive vaporizing, the tobacco is to wet to light on it’s own right out of the package anyways.

I have a nice hookah which has not seen much use lately. A fascinating way to smoke really. I would like to try making my own sheesha.

@basement_shaman You might try checking out one of the many “hookah bars” that are popular these days… most of them are Indian or Arabic places that serve food, drinks, etc and have a very chill atmosphere.  Usually you can order “a hookah” and they will bring one out to you with your preferred flavor.  You can test one out there and see if you like it!
Very very different from smoking.  It’s almost like an electronic cigarette on steroids.  Cool, flavorful vapor that doesn’t hurt AT ALL.  Worth a try IMO.

Mr. O, haven’t used any of the starbuzz lines of tobacco, Mostly I smoke Tangiers, and Nakhla brands. and a couple Al Fakher.

Starbuzz is just too expensive, I can get 3 250 gram packages of Nakhla for what 1 250 gram tin of Starbuzz costs.

I like Nak for the traditional Black leaf blends they have. And Tangiers is made from American grown Virginia tobacco. yummy.
