Has anyone here tried non-tobacco, herbal cigarettes such as Honeyrose or NTB? Any opinions? I’m interested in trying them. (BTW I use snuff every day, but also smoke about 5-15 cigarettes. Usually menthols).
I tried some called Ecstacy Brand years ago and i didnt much care for them to be honest…i also had friends who smoked Knaster but i think its sold to be mixed with marijuana. Anyway id avoid them
I tried some of that herbal dip a while back. (Smokey Mountain or something like that) It was worthless in my opinion. I had better results with chewing gum and pemican. Granted, I wasn’t trying to quit nicotine, I was just curious. I hate cigarettes and only use pipes and cigars on rare occasions so I can’t comment on that aspect.
Don’t bother they are absolutely disgusting. Like smoking a bonfire. And just as bad for you as cigarettes. Try a pipe instead.
Yeah they are nothing special. They taste like a smooth campfire, that may sound appealing but its not good at all. Theres nothing wrong with trying them though.
My apologies, I misread the original post and thought you were asking about oral tobacco as well. Please excuse my faux pas.
Thanks for the replies. I tried some anyway the other day. Wasn’t keen on Honeyrose, but NTB peppermint was tolerable and when still in the packet they smell like Extra Strong Mints which is nice. When lit, though, both kinds are a bit rough on the throat, and have a rather pungent odour, which sticks around and gets certain negative comments from other random nearby humans… (In other words, something along the lines of “what’s that ****ing stink, oi mate you smoking weed?!” or similar chavvy drivel)! @theratroom - I may well try pipe smoking one day, as the whole idea of it appeals to me.
Years ago when I smoked I bought a packet called Bravo. I think everyone cried BRAVO, when I finished the packet. They had the smell of a garden bonfire!
RE: “what’s that ****ing stink” LOL. I am fairly heavy into herbalism (the legal kind) and tried an experiment to zap up pipe tobacco with a blend of a certain herb that’s calming. I got exactly that reaction from my lady-friend.
I work at tobacco shop and we sell Ecstasy non-tobacco cigarettes. They taste absolutely horrible. We try to persuade people not to buy them; we don’t want a reputation for selling foul cigarettes. The only people who buy them are theater people who use them on stage. Some theaters have a no-tobacco-on-stage policy and additionally when you’re rehearsing a scene where an actor has to light a cigarette, if s/he had to keep lighting a real cigarette over and over again the actor will get sick pretty quick. I also had the misfortune to try a brand called Cannabis-Free once in a failed attempt to quit cigarettes ( I think they are made by the same company that makes Ecstasy). They burned hot and uneven and tasted bitter and noxious. I know of some herbalists who will blend their own smoking mixtures using things like lamb’s ear and various flowers and whatnot. Supposedly some of these can be quite tasty and have a number of beneficial properties but I am still waiting on a custom blend that a customer promised to bring me. My advice would be to stay away from commercially available herbal cigarettes except out of pure curiosity.
I second that. They are dreadful. The fact is that smoking any foliage, for its own sake, is vile. We smoke for nicotine and you only have to lay off cigarettes for a while to see how awful they taste. The menthol ones are slightly more palatable but still leave you with a lung full of smoke. They are also high in tar and give you a terrible cough if you use them often enough, certainly not safe smoking. I think these things exist as part of the misconception that nicotine is bad for you and all smokers want to do is inhale smoke. If you have an absolutely massive ‘hand to mouth’ craving they may help in some slight way, but, really, they are the sort of thing you would only ever buy one packet of.
@xapken would it be ok to PM you about your herbal research ? i am curious on the matter but failed most of the time to archive anything useful with it (read: i seek for sleep aids that work)
prickly letuce a.k.a opium letuce (it doesn’t have any opium)
@Prismaster PM is okay with me. Briefly in response the most effective I’ve found is valerian (valeriana officinalis) root and passion flower (passiflora incarnata) leaf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valerian\\_(herb) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passiflora\\_incarnata Fair warning, valerian root has the wonderful odor of dirty sweat socks. I mix it in powder form (out of capsules) with OJ stir and choke it down. Relaxing and somewhat intoxicating. Passiflora is commonly steeped as a tea. Avoid if you’re taking antidepressants or MAO inibitors. Very mellowing, slows down racing mind and helps relaxation. Oh, Chamomile tea is also something many have good results with. Probably the mildest and safest of the three.
