OT? homemade snuff boxes for your pocket

well, mr cheapo strikes again. I read a post here at snuffhouse about someone making a snuffbox from an acorn. Great idea. I made one for my pocket using a spent 45acp cal shell casing and a cast lead bullet. I cleaned up the casing using reg toothpaste to brighten up the brass, and rinsed it, dried it and then took the cast lead bullet and using a nail file got the bullet to fit well, took some wax from a hot candle and wiped it around the bullet to seal the lead, and placed it into the casing after filling the cartridge with snuff, (lemon snuff, homemade using w.e. garrett sweet ) works really great. holds about as much as a snuff ‘bullet’ haha. If you have a friend who reloads, beg a few rds from them and do use the military ball ammo bullet instead of the lead one for health purposes. Should get a few looks when you take it out to use at the bar or fave watering hole. Tell em you are 'blowing out your brains" my humor bites, sorry…

Apparently they’ve been doing this in Africa for as long as fixed ammunition has been available there. I have some 7.62x54R around here somewhere. Should hold a lot of snuff, but I wouldn’t want to use it in public with all the jumpy people here in NY…

sounds pretty cool, graybeard19 … you should sell em … so, they seal well?

I’d suggest a full metal jacketed bullet, just to eliminate any chance of lead exposure or poisoning.

Texas?

Even FMJ’s can have a hole in the rear of the jacket. They usually have a depression at the rear so that the rear end of the bullet can expand and grip the rifling.

Good idea. I have only huge 14.5mm heavy machine gun casing at home, that’d make a cool snuff mull!

14.5mm? Now THAT’s a snuff bullet… I expect that the best type of cartridge for this would be a rifle round that has a boat tail type bullet (most of them do) The boat tail design means that the rear of the bullet is tapered, so it will work well as a ‘cork’ to fit into the neck of the case. Handgun rounds (like the .45ACP in question) usually have a bullet with parallel sides, which would make it almost impossible to push in and take out of the case by hand without modification. @graybeard: Have you noticed any brass or copper scent to snuff you’ve stored in your new container?

so far so good, I cast these bullets way back when I still had a Ruger old army cap n ball pistol. I am going to find a modern jacketed one to use instead. It is pretty handy and it doesnt give it a metallic taste, but I sure dont trust the lead bullet. Who needs to risk sniffing lead into their sinuses? Not me. OFF TOPIC…check this out file under REALLY REALLY POOR NAMING OF A SNUFF… google indian snuffs…I came across one I swear to the almighty…SWATIK brand mentholised snuff…yep with the famous symbol on it. Now I realize that before the bad boys of WWII started using that religious symbol it had a different meaning…OK,but to ignore that even all these decades later? try taking out a tin in your pub or bar or whatever…good way to get sand pounded up your keester! http://www.snuffwork.com/menthol.htm

If you think that’s weird, try googling “manwoman” He’s a crazy dude who’s trying to reclaim the swastika as a symbol of peace. He says he’s trying to reverse the negative image the symbol acquired when the nazis decided to adopt it as their logo. He seems to have decided that the best way to go about this is to have hundreds of the things tattooed on him and change his name to ‘Manwoman’. I doubt very much that even this excellent strategy will stop people thinking ‘nazi’ when they see a swastika though, and I bet he gets beaten up a lot…

Incidentally, back on topic: Have you seen the movie ‘Lord of War’? In it, Nicholas Cage’s character is given a line of ‘Brown Brown’, a mixture of cocaine and gunpowder. The guy stores it in a rifle cartrige, plugging it up with the bullet.

manwoman is awesome. I don’t think he’s ever been in a fight in his life actualy. I know a bloke that has some tats like that only once did he ever get in any problem (with an idiot I might ad, who didn’t like having pointed out that the symbol she was wearing was involved in a culture that had a more successfull genocide long story really). Then again he’s also the same type who might attack nazis too so… At least scare the piss out of them.

If anybody in your family is diabetic, try using an empty container for glucose test strips. They are air tight and last forever.

Great idea Howdydave I’am going to send my brother too much candy now (had to let out a little humour after experiencing some idiots getting offended by what boils down to their idioticy.)

My father in law is an expert woodworker and according to his daughter, my wife. He is going to make me a snuffbox for christmas. Not missing a chance to have something spectacular made, I got her to ask him to make me a snuff container for my computer desk. Something probably by some standards HUGE…5 inch base, by 4 1/2 inches tall with a storage area 2 1/2 inch by 3 1/2 inches deep. Made of ultra fancy Walnut. I worked yrs back at a walnut mfg place which worked walnut for gun stocks. I got some walnut to make your eyes water…really fancy grade stuff. He is such a great woodworker I cannot wait to see them (he is making TWO for me…) Gonna put my 6 photo and maybe some bulk Wilsons medicated in them…drool Yes i shall post pics when I get them on christmas

Sounds awesome, but with such a large storage compartment aren’t you concerned about the snuff drying out? Just an idea, but how about a large snuff mull with several small compartments instead of one big one? That way you could have several different flavors available to suit every whim, and with less volume in each compartment, the snuff would stay fresher :o)

Great idea, poor man will now have THREE to make. I like to put a bit of either apple or citrus peel in my snuff to keep it fresh and not bone dry. Knowing how well he does stuff it will be damn near water tight!
