OT: Good news, bad news

I went to see another doctor today for a second opinion on the mumps. Good news is I do not have the mumps. Bad news is, I have glandular fever which takes 10 times longer to heal. Good news is the problem is not snuff related!!!

Sorry to hear you aren’t well Pieter, heres hoping you make a full recovery soon!

Sorry to hear that Pieter. I’ve had glandular fever as well as mumps, and neither are very nice. Get well soon mate. Stefan

Bet you wish it was the mumps now :frowning: Anyway get well soon Pieter.

Either Glandular Fever or Mumps aren’t fun. Speedy recovery, Pieter!

Poor Pieter! I hope you are resting and taking care of yourself - get well soon!

Sorry to hear about your ailment. Hope you can find some comfort in snuff, and snus, and this forum at least…and a good cup of tea.

Get well soon, Pieter.

Wish you health, Pieter.

Get well soon, friend!

Well, I hope you get better Pieter, but thank you for not jumping on the bandwagon and blaming it on snuff.

It’s 19 days later and I’m still not sure what’s wrong with me. My right ear is giving up with some blood oozing from it since Friday. The biggest problem is that I’m so tired. I just don’t feel like doing anything. Snuff and snus help to keep me going. I will go and see another doctor on Monday for a 3rd opinion. I thank every member who has wished me well. You are the only people I can talk to because I’ve been on “sick leave” for a month already The only escape I had was the 5 days we went to Seweweekspoort.

Not good Pieter. See a doctor ASAP! Stefan

Pieter, do you know an Ears-Nose-Throat specialist? The ones my family have used have been very helpful.

@Xander, we have a very good E-N-T specialist here and I will see him on Monday @Stefan, thanks for your concern

Get well, Pieter!

Wishing you a quick recovery, Pieter. I’ve had some run ins with doctors and hospitals this year and I know it’s never much fun.

You better take care, Pieter, (Sounds like that’s your plan come Monday at least). You’re the only person I remotely know or probably will ever know in southern Africa—play it safe there, buddy.

My right eardrum’s got a little hole in it, ruptured because of some infection in the ear. This is, according to the doctor, due to the glandular fever. My wife was present while the doctor was busy checking me out. He asked me whether my sinuses were blocked and my wife said: “He uses snuff to clear his nose”. She has been nagging me to stop snuffing for a while until I’m OK again. So what she was trying to do was get the doctor to tell me to stop. Do you want to know what the doctor said? “The use of menthol snuff sometimes help to clear the eustachian tube” !! So, there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth. And this is not an old doctor, the guy is only 41 years old. So it must be a known fact amongst the doctors. He gave me some more anti-biotics and a lot of other stuff. Now, I don’t know whether it’s the medicine, the menthol snuff which I’ve been taking since Saturday, or your good wishes, but I’m feeling much better tonight. Off to bed now with my nose FULL of McC O&G.

I’m glad you are feeling somewhat better, Pieter. I might be concerned with snuff too, mainly beause if any found its way into the eustachian tubes, it may cause some clogging and a subsequent infection. A neti pot might clear it out. Just a thought.
