I am curious if any forum members also happen to be avid golfers. I have recently revisited this sport after about a 6-7 year hiatus and boy does my swing need some work. I had a great evening yesterday on the driving range hitting practice shots with my new clubs in between pinches of WoS IHT #22. I can’t wait to get my swing semi-consistent so that I can hit the course for a round within the next couple of weeks. If snuff is the most “gentlemanly” way to take tobacco, than golf is definitely the most “gentlemanly” sport.
I don’t like to watch golf. I really like to drive golf balls, following them is not my favorite till I get better. All I have is a couple old persimmon head drivers. I’d love to have some old hickory shaft irons…Some of the old club’s names I love: Niblick Mashie Spade Mashie Mid-iron I like the gentleman part of the game, possibly more prevelant in the ‘old days’, haha! The best part about the game to me, You are competing against YOURSELF alone, really. (Another sport some older folks are playing closer to town here at a local park is Lawn Bowling, which I’d like to explore.)
Mashies are awesome. I love golf, but am really terrible at it. I watch it on a regular basis, and I’m addicted to Tiger Woods on Wii. I still have my clubs, I just don’t have the time to really get out there and swing em.
The only time I’ve played was participating in local games of Gopher Golf. Equipment required: Garage sale drivers of any ilk, balls collected from local club water hazards and a field full of gopher mounds. Object: Hit gopher mound with ball. There were no gentlemen present at the time as best I recall.
I would like to know what to do with all of the golf balls that crash through my windows and break everything in the garden. Locking them up does nothing to deter their comrades to continue their long assault. I’ve released several thousand of these POWs for small ransoms, but the enemy is relentless.
I suck so bad at the driving range that I’ve never even played on a real course.
I, too, have taken a 6-7 years hiatus from golf, and I am going to start playing again soon. I will probably play on my university team here next semester (after which I will be graduating). The team is just getting started, and I don’t even know if we’ll play any tournaments in the fall, anyway, but it will be nice to get back into practice and have something to work towards. I’m a bit dishearted at your swing experience, as I was hoping it would mostly fall back into place. I guess not! Well, when my father was in better practice, he was a scratch golfer. I know he has a weighted Momentus club, one of the more primitive versions of the Momentus, and probably several other tools he’s collected over the past few years. Other than just hacking away at the range (hopefully with his help), I think these should help to get back into the swing of things. We’ll see.
