Who of you know that there is another famous Garrett product namely the Garrett Steam Locomotive. This is a UK manufacturer who supplied beautiful beasts which roamed through our country for many years. It was a much respected, very strong and reliable machine which was sadly pushed aside by the new diesels. Only a couple remains today and they are all in private hands. I admired them as a child because they were so strong and very fast for the time they lived in. But sadly, all good things come to an end. Snuff is one of the few exceptions and I’m glad about that. And so say all of us, I’m sure!!

I like classic trains but know little about them. Locally we have the Wilmington & Western Railroad Its a lot of fun, but I havn’t ridden it since I was a kid. Ironically, it goes right up the Red Clay Creek valley and right past the old Garrett Snuff Mill in Yorklyn.

Within 30-40 minutes we have a 3 1800’s era trains that still run through the old gold rush towns. It was used a lot for shows like Little House on the Prairie, Gunsmoke, Bonanza and a lot of western movies. About 2 hours away is a fun one in Virginia City. My favorite is the run through Donner Pass and Tahoe Pass. makes for a fun day. On occasion they have whats called the ‘wine train’ that goes through Donner pass. You get to drink wine from all the local wineries and have a great meal while enjoying the scenery.
