We had an awesome day yesterday fishing. 1st half of the day, 4 of us caught about 75 bluegill- all good sized on crickets and mini-jigs. 2nd half of the day we targeted Largemouth bass (all catch and release of course!). I got 15 of them as well as my brother. Our friends only got 5 between them. We got them on bass assasins, Zara Spooks, Hard jerkbaits, and No:1 killer was flylined 3" plastic worms shad colored on 6 lb test medium light spinning outfits. The fish were busting the water all over. The water was literally boiling! Snuff of choice all day? Of course- the best snuff to take when outdoors in the mountains…no other choice will satisfy! WE Garrett! At one point, I also took a nice Chaw of some Levi Garett Chew. It’s pretty good, and the flavour really lasts, but it’s a little too sweet for me. I also had some Ettan Snus. I really prefer natural tobacco flavour in my mouth. Ettan SNUS really hits the spot sometimes. With the Ettan in my lip, WE Garrett in my nose, and my fishing pole, I was pretty much in heaven all day. I even had a nice little swim in the lake. It was a great day in Santa Barbara, California. That’s 3 great weekends in a row fishing, and I intend to do the same thing tomorrow. I don’t know why I love Garrett snuff so much in the mountains. At home, it tastes really strong to me, but in the mountains, it tastes just perfect. My friends are from the deep south. They were telling me all about their grandmothers dipping Garrett snuff with a spoon, so it brought back good memories. At one point, a buddy got stung by a bee and he’s allergic. He was glad I had the garrett snuff, because (a little trick his Grandma taught him) he immediately put some Garrett snuff on it, and he said the burning was instantly gone!

B

I go surfcasting for stripers and blues. Do you do any ocean fishing out there on the left coast?

N

I had a terrible year fishing this year. The biggest fish I got was a 3 lbs large mouth. LAME!! I’m thinking about starting up fly fishing next year.

B

That’s about the average size we caught this weekend. Thats a nice chunky one. Yeah, the last two weekends in a row, I’ve been fishing Newport bay on rented skiffs for halibut and spotted bay bass, but not doing to well. I plan on finally learning to fly fish this trout season. I haven’t tried striper fishing, but my brother does and they do pretty well on medium sized ones. They get really big around here. Next weekend I’ll be fishing the bay again for spotted bay bass mainly on live sardines. For some reason, when I ocean fish I do enjoy medicated snuffs. It’s about the only time I do. Does anyone else notice that this site “spell checks?” I think it’s great! Do you ever use yamamoto IKA’s? That’s probably my favorite bass bait, but right now, they’re suspended around here or on topwater really good.

B

Here’s some pictures all in the last couple months. In case anyone’s wondering, WE Garrett was in my nose in every pic.

T

For bass I have great success ripping the Yo-Zurri crystal minnow series minnows. They work great for brown trout as well. Also I have fun with the 12" & 7" AC Plugs at any bass lake that has trout in it. And split shot worms. In the winter, the bass around here love black or purple bass jigs with a yamamoto twin tail grub trailer bounced slowly off the bottom. And if I’m on the boat & want to relax a little, I’ll switch to the live crawdads. bryan, I love it when your in the right place at the right time to be in the middle of the bass boiling. I remember a few years back I was fishing this cove when the bass started busting the shad hard. Every few seconds you would have a bass that actually jumped on shore & would flop back in. It didn’t really matter what you threw out then. When I go striper fishing on the local lake, we actually chase the boils. Nothing gets your heart pumping like a striper boil.

B

Yeah, it doesn’t really matter when they’re boiling. They were even hitting buzz baits. That’s the time when you try all the stuff you’ve never caught fish on! I use those yo-zurri’s, too. Drop-shotting was catching the suspended bass real good last weekend, too! Man, I love fishing.

T

What species of trout do you have there in Ross Lake? Sadly, here in CA the salmon fishing was put to a halt this season due to low numbers of salmon going through the ladders. A bucket of fresh clams & oysters would be good, I really like to go to the local river & gather cold water crawdads to eat. They are ‘cold water’ because I live in the mountains and the river is pretty cold. Much better tasting than warm water crawdads. Some of the higher elevation lakes around 7000-9000 ft. elevation have crawdads the size of small lobsters. Those make a good meal.

B

I caught some dolly’s in Alaska. They actually are a char. Interesting rig, though. It’s 6 lb test with a redish bead. Then a bloodknot below the bead with about a 1" leader of 6lb fluro. Attached to that is a single barbless hook. So, the trout bites the bead as it floats down river, you feel it very slightly, and then you have to set the hook fast or it’s gone. When you catch them, the hook is actually often outside the mouth. I love crawdads, but only get the ones my buddy imports from Lousiana. I could probably it a few dozen easily. Coldwater dads’ sound really tasty.

B

They definatly are. They seem to be all over the place. Though honestly in my opinion they make much better fish bait as in sure they taste good but most of the fish I’ve caught with them have tasted much better.

T

bryan, when I was in Alaska, those dolly’s wouldn’t stop hitting the Mepps Flying C lure. That thing was incredible on the varden.

B

I wouldn’t doubt it. We went fishing today. It started out good. 4 fish in 4 casts- barracuda, 2 sand bass and 1 spotted bay bass. Than until noon (when we went home) the fishing was nearly dead! It’s not cause we’re keeping them all, because we only keep one or two fish and throw the rest back every time! I’ll be going to France in a couple weeks on vacation, but I’ll be going up to the sierra’s after that to do some fishing, I hope.

P

Gentlemen, you are making my SO jealous!!! I also try to fish and although I live in a seaside village, I’ve never been very good at it. But, I will take you on when it comes to mountain biking!!! I know it’s a different kettle of fish (is this a pun?) but I must have SOMETHING to brag about!! Take care, all of you. Kind reagads Pieter

T

Pieter Claassen, There are some beautiful bike trails around here that you would absolutely love. You just have to keep one eye on the trail and one eye on the lookout for bears, mountain lions & bigfoot.

M

Pieter, If you can’t make it in California mountain biking, then come to Texas. Our whole state is as flat as you can get. No downhill here…

O

I’m no pro mountain biker but I love to ride every chance I get. 9 out of 10 times I ride my bike to the post office when I’m mailing snuffboxes My contribution to the “green” cause. I’m sure I’m not the only one that gets constantly bombarded by goofy emails from friends and family. Got this one today. One morning the husband returns after several hours of > fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar > with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. Subject: Never Ever Lie To A Woman! A man called home to his wife and said, ‘Darling , I have been asked to go fishing up in Canada with my boss & several of his friends. We’ll be gone for a week. This is a good opportunity for me to get that promotion I’ve been wanting, so could you please pack enough clothes for a week and set out my rod and fishing box, we’re leaving from the office & I will swing by the house to pick my things up’ 'Oh! Please pack my new blue silk pyjamas. ’ The wife thinks this sounds a bit fishy but being the good wife she is, did exactly what her husband asked. The following weekend he came home a little tired but otherwise looking good. The wife welcomed him home and asked if he caught many fish? He said, ‘Yes! Lots of salmons, some bluegills, and a few swordfishes. But why didn’t you pack my new blue silk pyjamas like I asked you to Do?’ The wife replied, ‘I did, dear. They’re in your fishing box! …’

S

from the pictures you guys sure do have some good fishing on your side of the pond.

T

LOL, good ones.

L

I went out a bit last Saturday when the weather was beautiful, just fished the river trying to get the big northern’s that are supposed to be in there. Yesterday the sun was poking out a bit so I headed out to the old quarry close to my house, but shortly after I got there it got cold, and the wind picked up so I didn’t stay long.

T

I’ve yet to buy my new license :~(

L

I went back out to the river today, but alas still no fish in my belly. I did get a couple bites, but that was it. I’ll try again tomorrow.

L

I finally caught some fish this weekend. Only 2 bullheads, but it’s better than nothing. After a few more warm days they’ll really start biting.

B

I cooked some tuna today. Does that count?

L

My grandpa and I pulled 65 bullheads, and 1 perch out of the lake today in under an hour. Now that’s when fishing is the best. Catch them as fast as you can pull them in.

L

@bb - I thought my grandpa and I were the only people left in the world who liked eating bullheads. We split the take 50/50. I ate a few tonight, and will make the rest for lunch for me and my wife tomorrow. This time of year they’re one of the best tasting fish you can catch.

L

We got 46 bullheads today. They were a bit bigger this time. Sorry bb, I forgot my camera again today. Maybe next week I’ll get you a pic of our catch.

L

They might be a little bigger than my bullheads. lol Speaking of which, we got another 40 today along with a few nice perch. I was hoping to pull a couple northerns out of the lake, but no such luck. There’s always next time.

T

Nice kitties.

L

If I could ever remember the camera I would get a pic. I don’t clean them at home, usually at my grandpa’s house. It’s just easier that way. I’m going back out tomorrow.

L

For all of you fishermen here, I found a cool website a couple days ago. Get Reeled

L

I finally got a pic of some fish I caught. This will be lunch for me and my wife tomorrow.

L

Here’s today’s catch. He was about 17". I had a bigger one on the line too, but he got off. This one is already in my belly.

L

My wife pulled this one out today. She beat mine by 7" so I’ll have to try again tomorrow for a bigger one.

M

There’s gotta be a “out of context” quote in there…

T

I caught a limit of beautiful german brown trout today, all heavy and hook jawed. Can’t wait for tomorrows feast.

L

Beings I cannot get a picture to upload today, I’ll just add some links of this weeks catch. From Wednesday And today 1 2 We also caught a 19" catfish today, but didn’t get a picture. Hopefully we’ll get some more northern and cats tomorrow.

C

Wow Leman. The fish in #1 & 2 are quite beautiful and look like good eating!

L

They were a lot of fun to catch too. We didn’t go today, but are going back tomorrow to try and get a couple more.

L

Here’s a couple pics from today. The bass is going on my wall. Bass Catfish Edit: Got another one this afternoon. This one was 17" and had to be 4+ pounds. Bass

L

The wife and I went out in our new inflatable boat tonight. We caught a few bullheads which we turned into cut bait. I had a northern that was about 30", but he bit through the line right before I got him in the boat. Tomorrow I’ll be buying a net and a lure to replace the one that’s still in his mouth.

L

We got a couple more fish today. One apiece. It seems we can’t upload pictures yet, so here are links. Mine My wife’s

T

Went out yesterday evening & caught 9 trout, my friend caught 8, it was a pretty good evening. I kept 2 for eating & decided to take a pic. Released the rest since spawn time is close by, and the freezer is already pretty full of trout. But I’m going to cook some in the smoker this weekend. Not the biggest ones I caught but good eating size. Had to throw in the pic with the watch because when I took it off to clean the fish, the black mother of pearl dial was on fire. lol For size perspective, the width on the watch case is 48mm. most of you know the size of the Garrett can

J

yummmy…

L

Nice looking fish you’ve got there. My friends and I went out the last two days, but haven’t had much luck fishing. We have accumulated 51 clams in that time period though. I’ll be making clam chowder in a couple weeks.

C

Good looking fish, Trout.

N

.

C

I’m in Orlando, Nosechaw. Good looking fish! Is that tee shirt in Hebrew?

N

Thanks man , yeah the shirt is in hebrew because it’s my favorite beer and im a heeb. u can’t tell by my huge snuffer?See god blessed the Jews with big noses not only because air is free, but for all Jews (by birthright)to ingest huge piles of snuff in each nostrel, and giant shmalzler balls flowing like matza balls on hannuka. Ok just kidding . u do any fishing up in Orlando? Tampa has good snook and tarpon fishing.I know there’s tons of bass up there in Otown Come to think about it if u are in Florida and u see water , there’s fish to catch there. Everything holds fish here like my nose holds chaw!

M

It looks like the South Florida ranks are growing.

C

There’s some good chains up here, Harris and Kissimmee. I don’t have a boat, so I mostly fish off the docks. Once it cools down some I’ll hit Turkey Lake a bit. EDIT: I dig the shirt, just wanted to confirm the language to prevent looking like an idiot

N

My father and I have a 23.5 proline open fisher and I would much rather fish bridges , canals ,piers and lakes . It’s a lot easier and less time consuming to just pick up a few rods and lures ,shiners ,mullets whatever u can find and ride around town fishing little secret spots here and there like when I was younger ,before I had a boat . No sea sickness no sunburns no cleaning and maintanace, and no wasting lots of money. Thanks about the shirt I got 2 of those bad boys from Israel.there’s nothing like a can of red white and blue with some rooster on the side lol

N

Miamimark where in Miami ? I’m in Hollywood . I thought I was the only one south Florida who snuffed.

M

In Surfside, very close!

C

Tom of Nicotine Rush is also in Vero Beach. I think there is also a member in Jacksonville.

N

Yeah I saw that when i first saw his website, thats actually why I ordered from him , he’s close and a fellow Floridian, and I’d rather help a floridian in this rough economy than wait 2 weeks , over pay and buy from Europe.Maybe if we become friends I can drive upto vero beach to pic up some snuff that I can’t wait 2.5 days for!

L

It’s that time of year again, so I’ll give the thread a bump. Anyone been out yet this year? The rivers around here have been a bit high lately, but I think I’ll give it a try tomorrow afternoon. The catfish are supposed to be biting.

S

Plan on doing some fishing with my bro-in-law this spring/summer

B

I can’t wait to get out, too. The rivers are just starting to go down here, too Leman. I’m all stocked up on chicken liver, heheh. Here kitty, kitty, kitty…

B

Yes BB1, I used to use 5 gallon buckets of chicken blood as well. I’ve thought about M-80’s and Cherry Bombs. You remember those firecrackers from years ago? we used to catch big chubs in our creek with yellow cheese or white bread and a cane pole. I still love cane poles, a cooler of beer and a radio with the Reds game on…it is very close again!

T

Hooked into a big ol’ squaw fish in the river yesterday, hit my yo-zuri. Thought it was a big brown trout when it hit. What a let down.

B

Tobacco A cooler and a pole , What more could you ask for? 20150517_191458

Z

@basement_shaman OMG! The attack of the killer shrubbery!

M

I was shore fishing for trout at Eagle Nest Lake yesterday (Eagle Nest, NM) and caught a 21" rainbow and a 17" Chinook Salmon.  I was using a Kastmaster Spoon and smoking a Brick House cigar.  I caught several other trout, but they were much smaller.

The wife and I just bought a house there, and after all the money she has spent on “Necessary Stuff” I decided some heavier fishing gear was “Necessary Stuff”.  Most of my fishing for the last couple decades was after tiny trout in small streams and rivers… the kind of stuff where I was using a 4.5’ ultra-light action pole with 2 or 3 lb test.  Living near this lake means fishing for big trout and big salmon, and even a few Northern Pike.  I’m loving my new casting reel/rod as all I’ve used before is lightweight spinning gear.
