last week i lost my cell phone in the vineyard… again! It wasn’t anything special. Samsung instinct. I had a data plan and I could surf the web (slowly) and check my email… and the weather. That was all i really used it for. There were faster fancier phones but this one suited me fine. So i jumped on ebay, bought a used blackberry world edition cheap and changed my data plan to accommodate. i now know why the are called “crackberries”, because now I can’t put the damn thing down. i can now check my email, send texts, check the weather, cure world hunger, all from my tractor… I now see why they are called crackberries. now to get one with a snuff compartment! I’m an Android nut myself… Traded my BB in for an Iphone then “upgraded” to Android, haven’t looked back…

Blackberries are very practical things, love mine. Not the tops for nerdy stuff or games though. The new upgraded ones look to be very good, finally giving them up to date hardware.

Thanks but I’ll stick with my TracPhone which I only turn on when I’m out of town and for long distance calls.

I have a BB Curve, love the phone. Ive got a 10 gb data plan so I can be on Facebook all the time.

I do tech support on smartphones for a living. I would much rather work on androids than blackberries. That said, I would say blackberries from a repair standpoint are usually a much more solidly built phone and have less problems overall. Just that when something goes wrong it is a much more involved procedure with a blackberry. That said, I own three smartphones. One android, one blackberry and one windows.

I have two android phones. an Evo 3D and and LG Optimus, one on Sprint, one on Metro pcs. I run my whole biz on Google products, I love the way my contacts and calender automatically sync. I also use a google voice phone number so both my phones ring at the same time and now I can also take / make calls on my computer, right from gmail.

I’ve been considering whether to buy the iPhone 5 once it is released. I have no cellphone at present. I had one of the inexpensive ones with a prepay plan years ago, but didn’t use it enough to make the expense worthwhile, so I got rid of it. However, my old iPod Classic is losing battery life, and will need to be replaced before long. I was going to buy a new 32 gb iPod Touch, but they’re about the same price as the 32 gb iPhone (if purchased with an AT&T contract). If I do get the iPhone, I’ll disconnect my landline, and should end up with about the same monthly payment as before. But I still haven’t made up my mind.

@Micheltn: Thanks for the advice. I don’t carry 2 items now, only my iPod Classic. But the all-in-one idea appeals to me, even though in all likelihood, I will rarely use the iPhone as a phone. Its uses as a media player and all-around pocket computing device are what I’m thinking of. But if it can replace my home landline without incurring additional expense (except for the price of the phone itself), it may be worth it.
