Do any snuffers use contacts? I finally gave them another try after like 20+ years. I tried them before, back in the stone age, before disposables. I have bad memories of it. My glasses are old, another pair is busted, and rather than shell out hundreds of dollars for a new pair, I decided to check out contacts again. I’ve been using freebies so far. I went to the Wal Mart eye doctor. Am I insane? Actually he’s pretty good. Well, so far so good. I like them except for the fact of having a weaker lens in one eye, to facilitate reading. If I go full power in both eyes, I’ll be helpless with anything close-up, without granny glasses. I know they have bi-focal lenses, but they are much more expensive. Does anyone else split scripts between eyes?

I used contacts when I was in High School, but I got tired of the upkeep. I just wear regular glasses for reading and such. Contacts were too much work for the time that I acutally need them, which isn’t much.

Wow, I’m like your perfect case study! I had gas permeables (sp?) in high school and eventually got tired of them. About 3 years years ago I made the switch to soft lenses and I couldn’t be happier. I even got blue tinted ones! Within in the last year or so I switched to the weaker in one eye set up. The strange thing is, I read better with no correction. Luckily I read the paper first thing in the morning before I put my lenses in. For the computer and everything else, with lenses are WAY better. I still have a pair of glasses that I use, often. My eyes get tired later in the day and I do take the lenses out. Because of my astigmatism, I can’t wear extended wear lenses. I know I need another exam, so I probably should be able to read better with the lenses in. I hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions…

Hi Mark, Did it take a while to get used to the multi-prescription arrangement? It’s weird, I can see close and far, but it feels funny. Like there is a film in the way or something. I guess it takes time for the brain to adjust to switching eyes.

I should also mention that I have a split prescription as well. One eye has little to no prescription, while the other has some. My sight is not that bad, I went years without glasses, but I eventually became tired when watching TV or reading on the PC.

M

I really don’t remember having to adjust, but it’s been a while.

Just got multi-focal contacts today and one is stronger then the other like you. I was told they use your dominant eye (mine is left) to do the long distance and the other for more close up. That is how they do the near sighted/far sighted thing.

I never tried contacts as the cost is still prohibitive for me and glasses don’t really bother me that much , I’ve worn glasses for as far as i can remember. It’s true my current pair of glasses did cost about three or four times as much as i would usually pay , but i insisted i would get photo-chromatic lenses (get darker in sunlight ) because i used to get headaches from all the light during summer. I’m not even sure i can get contacts for my condition as my lenses have both a cylindrical and a spherical component. Plus , having to be so careful not to get your eyes infected seems like a pita. Glasses are only annoying because the arms break if you’re not careful and because they get fogged out during cold weather when entering a building.
