So, while trying to perfect technique over the last few weeks, most of my focus has been on avoiding throat hits, and trying to ensure that I can take relatively large pinches but keeping them fully in the nose. This morning (well, afternoon, but it’s my day off and I’ve been working absurd hours), I decided to wake myself up with a large pinch of Wilsons’ Extra Menthol blended with McChrystal’s Supermint. I love these flavours, and generally the stronger the better. My nostrils behave identically, and it was the lefts turn to take the bulk. So, large pinch on thumb nail (in the classic index/thumb pinch pose), I take a light sniff. None in the throat, but it felt like the whole lot shot straight up my sinus! MY FACE FELT LIKE IT WAS BURNING OFF! I had tears in my eyes for five minutes afterwards. I think I’ll be favouring the right nostril for the rest of the day. Any tips on how to avoid this? It hurt like hell! Still, none in the throat though!
Only way to avoid that ( like a Doctor or wife or GF may say ) is don’t put anything in your nose…Moral of that is “Do not listen to your Doctor or wife or GF” KEEP ON SNUFFIN :-@ [-X :!!

Ha, well that’s not going to happen. It’s never happened before, and the reason it stunned me apart from the fact that I’d never had it happen before, was the fact that I genuinely did not sniff hard at all. Having thought about it a bit, I’m wondering whether it was due to the fact that I blew my nose quite hard just after getting up, about 5 minutes before taking the hit.
@snuffski… BTW welcome…I am newbie 4 months here abput give or take. I couldn’t be of help with assisting you why that happened, as I do menthol or minty snuffs that often ( not my preference ) at all. But I have had similar effect when snuffing BRUTON ( aka Brutal ) I am sure another member will post in. Good LUCK… SNUFF IN GOOD HEALTH \m/
@AANYCAARDS…Thanks for that. I do mainly mint/menthol, and like I say - no problems until today! I’m certainly going to give it a while after blowing my nose next time. It was excruciating.
I use a spoon and give it a flick, it sends that snuff right where it needs to be, plug and pause. Don’t sniff, and if you do, use your brakes " limit sniff and pause at point of contact area". I’ve found a good spoon tends to be my favorite, I can put a bunch in the “snuff pocket” /nostril and make a nice cake in there, without throat or sinus hit, even Dholakia white and no choking, fyi, if you use a bunch at once, prepare for your gills to flutter. yum . I flick, sniff, pinch, boxcar, backhand and sometimes just cram. sniff, pause and tree that kite. :D/
I don’t snuff untill I’ve drank a little tea coffee or water. I always have a dry nose in the morning.
Don’t worry about how to avoid it, Worry when you start to Enjoy it.
I agree with 3d the endorfin rush from the pain can be addictive. But this is not how I want to enjoy snuff. Some day soon you will get it right.
The other nite I got a bit bored…and daring and took several large bumps of Superior in each nostril in a short amount of time. Not only did I get a huge nic rush[which I rarely do as Im pretty much immune to nic at this point] I got this weird sort of a muscle spasm going on under my right eye.It didnt hurt but I hate to admit I kinda liked it
pain… not pain, but the anarkali made the gum behind my front teeth and the teeth themselves tingle and throb. i love it
I was in a car accident years back and because of it, I have a partial denture. Sometimes It feels like I have feeling in the tooth that sits on the denture. What is that process called? Adaptative? The body is a amazing machine.
