I’m not sure why but one of my nostrils is almost perpetually stuffed and can rarely take a snuff, thus I have to rely on my “dominant” nostril. I feel like I miss a lot of the nuance of snuff as a result, but that could be all in my head. Anyone else have that problem? Any solutions for snuffing while stuffed up?

Most 6 photo snuffs will clear up congestion within seconds I have my favorites. If you’re totally blocked a hot shower works for me. My dominant side is my right if I use my left first , I have to adjust lower force for the right or throat hit. You may have a deviated septum . There are threads here that discuss deviated septum. Good luck

My nose cycles this all the time; one pinch my left nostril is more closed than the right, the next it’s the other way around and sometimes they are both open. With a big pinch of DW I actually prefer to snuff most of it up the most closed one and just aprox 1/3 in the open one. This helps alot with “hitting the throat issues”.

Funny note is that this past week one side was perpetually drippy while the other side was just fine. This was the first occasion where I didn’t go for both so as to let the one side simmer down.

I have had this issue and it seems to change sides too. Usually a menthol bump will clear it up enough to take more. I did have my first bad experience yesterday. My right side was a little clogged and it took a hard sniff. But when I took a second pinch about a minute later I took a hard sniff only to find out it was clear. Took Black Magic straight down the throat. Coughed and sneezed a long time.

I hadn’t noticed this constant alternation of nostrils before I read about it somewhere. “The Nasal cycle is alternating partial congestion and decongestion of the nasal cavities in humans and other animals.” Actually, now when I think of it, I saw it on QI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1jvRJV91co

I have a deviated septum! Through many nose breaks my nose is badly slanted towards one side. This means my left nostril is always slightly harder to snuff with, however I often wonder if those nose was broken for a reason! Finer snuffs such as 41P etc never get past the bend!

This stuff clears my nose. Give it ago.

I always think I can catch the scent of a snuff better with my right nostril than my left. I’ve got no idea why that is. I usually take snuff in my left nostril first, and then my right, but I’ve experimented with doing it the other way around, just to see if it affects my perceptions on this. It doesn’t. Weird, but there you go. On the other hand, I see better out of my left eye and hear better out of my right ear, so maybe it isn’t so weird after all.

I for some odd reason use much more snuff up my left nostril, it just feels smoother and I get the scent better from overall use. So for every 3 pinches I do 1 on the other side, on average.

@JakartaBoy, I have exactly the same problem, but on the other side of my head. My right ear and right eye are worse than my corresponding lefts. Also my right nostril is most of the time blocked. I haven’t realised any difference in smelling, but maybe that is the case too. Now that you mentioned it, I have to look at this too.

Seems to have cleared up quite a bit since I started using Flonase, believe it or not. Looks like we have a potential solution in a bottle…

I have a deviated septum. My right nostril is pretty closed up. I use a spoon a lot and put a small amount up my block nostril. I found that boxcar method works when I cannot spoon. Another method i use is thumb and index finger i place the pinch in between my nostrils and snuff easy while releasing the pinch in a controlled and regulated manor.
