Old F&T Snuffs

While ordering some snuff directly from Wilson’s (my wife is buying me them for my birthday but I had to do the ordering…) I had a very interesting conversation regarding the older Fribourg & Treyer snuffs, not the 13 currently in production. It seems (as far as the person I spoke to knew) that Wilson’s did buy the recipes and rights to all the F&T snuffs, not just the 13, but that for many years they chose to produce only the most popular of the F&T snuffs. No surprise there. It makes good business sense. However, it also seems there is some discussion going on about possibly reviving more of the old F&T snuffs. Obviously it’s early days but I’m certainly keeping my fingers crossed!

That would be awesome. Glad to see that Wilson’s is trying to keep up with the times.

Well, they have released quite a few new ones of late, and reprieved various others, so it’s all looking good.

Woo hoo! I’ll take the lot!

Don’t get too excited yet everyone! They only said that the idea was up for discussion. It may go nowhere, but we can hope.

So who’s gonna start the massive email campaign? I want to try more flavors soon, so far the only one I like is the hdt. The only other’s I’ve tried are macouba (sp?) and bordeaux.

Steady guys! I don’t want them to regret letting me know that they were thinking about it…

Sorry Tony, just kidding around. I have enough flavors I still want to try, adding more doesn’t really help.

No worries Mark!

Only joking, Tony - although I’d love to try some of the old discontinued flavours. But actually, wouldn’t enthusiasm from the snuff community encourage them to produce them, even if only a limited run?

Yes, I think it probably would help. I just had this vision of them being deluged with emails from half the Snuff House and getting irritated by the volume. On the other hand, if such encouragement were to be spaced out over a period of time… who knows? The big plus for me was discovering that Wilson’s does have the rights for all the F&T blends. The thought of losing blends had long saddened me.

Yes, ever since reading ‘Behind The Bow Windows’ and reading the descriptions of the discontinued snuffs I wondered why they weren’t all resurrected by Wilson’s. Actually, come to that, I’d have liked to have tried any of the existing snuffs with the original Cuban tobacco base.

I suspect they don’t do Cuban as then they couldn’t sell them in the US. Also, they probably don’t want to compete with themselves (between the F&T and WoS brands) assuming there were some similar stlyes/flavors. However, I’d be all for revivals, either limited edition or indefinate. I like all of the F&T blends I’ve had, and several have become perpetual favorites. Should someone start a petition? Or should we just sit and wait to see what they do?
