I’m starting to seriously wonder. All of my coarse grinds react with me negatively. Here’s the scenario:
Coarse grinds: Bayernprise, Viking Blond, S.G. Kendal Brown : slight nose run and 4-6 hours later my nose is a faucet, crazy sneezing
Finer Grinds: Toque, F&T, : Maybe an initial sneeze, slight nose run and thats it
Is it my technique or is something about the coarse grinds that my body doesn’t like? How long before you got used to the snuff? I got a really good buzz the other day… would like to use it more.
When a snuff is easy to take, I enjoy taking a lot of it, and a lot of snuff makes my nose run. I’m probably about to get all juicy with some Thor’s Hammer right now actually. There’s likely snuff grinds and such that give you different reactions, but maybe quantity has something to do with it too? Seems kind of odd that your nose is going crazy later than sooner though.
4 to 6 hours is strange. But one reason I stopped using a large variety of snuffs. Especially anything heavy perfumed will give me a horrible headache. Some menthol flavors make my nose clog and really try to reject from my face fast. And all coarse snuffs just ran right out. Now I use almost no fine snuff. I like lots and lots of coarse snuff. I figured since it was the easiest to sniff maybe stick with it. Thinking all the changes were reacting poorly to each other. Now, I only get a runny nose with some German ones. I still have a pinch or two of some other stuff but very rarely.
Abraxas Cafe 11 makes my nose run a lot. No headache or sneezing…so does Bernard’s.
And it usually happens after the 3rd or 4th bump. Idk…it’s weird. Since I started using F&T HDT, Viking blonde, 6P cheeta etc. it never happens at all.
If you don’t enjoy the effects of a particular snuff .Just stop using it. Come back to it later in a different season. Some snuff I use all the time rarely make my nose run, but then I will have a day when they do make my nose run. I think it have to do with the cilment a mix of relative humidity or lack of humidity cause my nose to react different.
I honestly enjoy the snuff sneeze… I found myself packing away a snuff and then revisiting it later and enjoying it more as before like basement_shaman had mentioned. It is weird how my taste will change from time to time. I found the best thing I ever did was to invest some money in a wide variety of snuffs and I am happy I did.
Yeah. It’s just frustrating because the SG snuffs are good. Man that pinch gave me a nice buzz. What’s a good technique for coarse snuffs? The fine ones I hold at or near the top of my lip and boom it goes where it needs too.
I wonder of coarse pieces are just getting in the wrong places. Maybe if you pill up a pinch it will all clump together and stay in the front of your nose. I’d hate for ya not to be able to take a snuff you like, so just keep trying all the methods.
I think thisi s what is happening. I expect SOME pieces to get in the wrong places. I suspect I am sniffing too hard and most of it is going somewhere else. It took me ahwile to get the Toque technique down. The first coarse snuff I had was a Poschl, which was nice because it didn’t hit my throat or make me cough. I really appreciate all of the feedback. I tried smoking a cigar last night and it wasn’t as fun as it was before I tried snuff… took ahwile for the buzz to kick in and didn’t smell nearly as nice
Sorry for complaining, guys. I think it’s just the snuff or my inexperience. I just pinched some Viking Blonde. No sneezes, just a mild drip, which might be from the Toque that hit my throat earlier. Man, this Viking Blonde is freakin good. Need to pinch this some more. I thought about it, when I was a kid smoking for the first time, yeah my body had to adjust. Thanks again and I hope no more dumb questions/complaints, only good reviews!
I haven’t tried the Viking Blonde yet, but the Viking Brown and Viking Dark are very easy to snuff. Use what works for you, and branch out a little from there. There’s no rush. :-)
And don’t feel back about asking questions. I think everyone would rather a new snuff-taker get the help he needs, than have that snuff-taker keep silent, get frustrated, and quit without getting to the real enjoyment stages.
@paN1k I totally agree with @markstinson newcomers are what keep this board alive! Keep asking, commenting, reflecting, suggesting… you het the idea. Welcome to the boards, by the way. I must apologize, I’ve been getting lazy about checking the Introduce Yourself thread. I used to check it every day.
Ok. The Viking Blonde which was great the other day, gave me a sneezing fit yesterday. Long story short I had to run out of a wedding find an antihistamine to stop the drip and sneezing. I think Viking Blonde is made by SG. Is it the amount that I am sniffing? Or do I just need to stick with Toque from here on out? I find this whole thing strange as I can smoke a cigar, pipe with no adverse reactions. I tried what @SeanOCDPx mentioned, made a nice pile and bam! I felt it hit the front of my nose where a nice tingle and then a nice buzz.
I think you are sniffing too hard and it is hitting your sinuses and triggering some reaction there. Read some posts on technique. It has to stay in the lower realms of your nose. One thing that works is sniffing gently as If you were smelling a flower. Then again, each nose likes different textures, grinds, aromas…
One that I think is beginner friendly is SG Kendal Brown Original or Plain (with boxcar method).
I did try SG KB. I’ll try it softly. When my nose feels better. Maybe you are on to something there. Technique. I did like how SG KB smells as well as Viking Blonde. When I sniff Toque it’s lightly. I do get throat hits occasionaly but I don’t get the /itchy throat/runny nose/sneezing 4-6 hours after that the coarser grinds do.
Once I realized the extent to which I had adjust my technique, according to the grind, things just gradually fell (or where hoovered lol) into place. A ‘general’ rule of thumb for me, is the finer the grind, the greater distance between my boxcar / nostril, and the gentler the snuff.
Going to try taking antihistamine until I can get the insufflation down. Could it be the nasal drip and blowing my nose gets the snuff into my sinuses? I noticed that when it starts dripping I get an increase in mucus and if there is no Hankie around I end up pushing everything back down my throat.
@paN1k, Hey there, If your blowing your nose really hard than it could get it in your sinuses and even your eustachian tubes!
You mentioned smoking cigars. Are you smoking them around the 4-6 hour mark? Anything else that might be contributing to the problem?
I don’t mean to question your thinking but I remember when I and others first started vaping, we would blame any new health problem on vaping when in reality it was something else all together causing the problem. For instance, a lot of people had just quit smoking and that caused a lot of symptoms that people tended to think were caused by vaping when it wasn’t.
I’m just thinking out loud but having to take an antihistamine is pretty extreme!
No, my tobacco use is limited. I would prefer to do snuff. I smoke pipes most often, cigars few times a year. My pipe smoking is a few times a week, 2 to 3 at most. Snuff is a bit more portable, and fun. I think it is technique. I tried this snuff bullet from toque and did it too hard and I got the sneezes, but nothing like those coarse grinds. I have a slight allergy to dust/grass.
