I offered snuff to my sister and brother-in-law today (both are smokers). Neither would take it. It was Poschl’s Gletscher Prise as I hoped to start them out easy (my favorite is Taxi Red). Neither would accept it and my brother-in-law said “I’m not sure I want to put that in my nose.” I was thinking “you smoke cigarettes!,” but I just let it go. He did at least take a sniff of it from the box but I figured he would be more adventurous than he was. Oh well.
That’s a let down. I got my wife to try snuff a few times. She likes WOS SM 500 and She Cherry Menthol.
I frequently offer snuff to smokers - particularly ones I find congregated outside buildings - but they generally react with alarm and disgust. We might consider ourselves to be “renaissance” snuffers - the inheritors of the elegance of the Regency period but most people I come across conceive snuffing to be the province of the old, poor, brown-nosed and shabby. I fear we have something of an image problem here!!
I got my girlfriend’s brother-in-law to try some Gletcher Prise. He snorted it off the palm of his hand, which looked uncomfortable, and I don’t think he’ll convert. So far he’s the only smoker I’ve been able to persuade to try it. Do you snuff openly in public? I’m always afraid of cops, vigilantes with cell phones, and campus security. As far as I can tell, most people (here) have never heard of snuff and do not care for it once they’re acquainted with the idea. Thank Hollywood for the undeserved stigma. Edit: multiple posts
Cigarette smokers won’t be able to enjoy snuff as much anyhow. You try it, you like it, you stop smoking so you can enjoy it. Period!
just freakin snuff already. you don’t help the image by acting shady. just be open and don’t think about it. It’s not your job to bend over backwards so people can keep ignorant comforts.
I’ve brought some Packards Club to a party before and it went around the room. Some enjoyed it and others were confused about how to sniff it haha.
my usual response to smokers who refuse to try is “so does sniffing it up your nose make less sense than soaking it in poisonous chemicals, wrapping it in paper, setting fire to it and inhaling the cancer inducing smoke?”
People are frequently ignorant and rather superstitious when it comes to things like this. I say “superstitious,” because those who smoke tend to view it as far less dangerous than smokeless tobacco, snuff included, when in fact just the opposite is true. They eye it with suspicion, and then self-righteously say something like, “I don’t think that’s a good idea, putting it in your mouth/up your nose like that. Don’t you know that can cause mouth/nose cancer?” Meanwhile, they’re doing just what bish777 said: soaking it in poisonous chemicals, wrapping it in paper, setting fire to it and inhaling it which creates a plethora of carcinogens and other harmful agents absent in other forms. I suppose when we have a society centered around the consumption of mass media, we can expect mindlessness to prevail.
My fiance is a snuff QUEEN. She likes WoS Strasbourg, Samuel Gawith Raspberry, and Tom buck
Now that is cool @transistor! Tell her way to go. My wife has tried snuff a few times but just doesn’t like the sensation of it in her nose; the burn is too much for her, even with easy snuffs. Sigh. But at least she’s tried it.
I find smokers never want to try snuff, but almost everybody who dips wants to try some. Since i had around 16 different tins i figured i would let them buy some off me, I think i may be having some half orders soon =)
Look on the bright side…I introduced a buddy of mine to snuff (cigarette smoker) and he loves it. He does not do the computer thing much, and there is none availible locally in south florida…so now, I am his supplier! It can be a bit of a pain in the ass! I have to get him a bullet now, because he lost his…
I managed to get my GF, my friend and his girlfriend, and one of my band mates to try snuff. It was WoS Crumbs of Comfort. They all liked the Spearmint scent, however, they all found it weird and probably won’t try it again. At least they tried it
As you said, at least they tried it, tin_can. It blows my mind that smokers won’t try it. I’ll try to get them to take one of my roll-your-own cigs… I’m sure they’ll think there’s something wrong with them, but the roll-your-owns taste and make me feel less “dirty” than pre-manufactured cigs.
I’m very opened minded that’s what brought me to snus then snuff as well. Funny thing is that it was never my intention to quit smoking. I just find them both a more enjoyable experience. Oh and about snuffing public this weekend I took a trip and was at an outdoor mall and I took out my toque bullets of lime toast and whisky honey and no one seemed to care. They probably figured it was sinus medicine.
@ddavelarsen yeah it’s pretty cool being able to share snuff with her. We both quit smoking together and needless to say that was a HUGE help. Well, that and Ecigs and Snuff I feel when quitting, that Ecigs are the best way to do it, but the snuff gives the MAOI’s and Alkaloids that Ecigarettes leave out. It’s crazy how I can talk about SP’s and Schmaltzers and she knows exactly what I’m talking about
I think it has nothing to do with snuff or cigarettes, and everything to do with the person in question. If you describe snuff to someone, and they turn up their noses or make ignorant comments or whatever, they probably won’t like it, in my experience–they already have a preconceived notion. If they respond with curiosity, well that’s another story. Though ST users tend to favor snuff versus cigarette smokers, I’ll agree to that. My GF snuffs all the time. It is awesome.
Gave a tin of toque cherry menthol to my sister in laws friend last night after he tried it and loved it
Whats that you say? You grind it up and then stuff it up your nose?
@nachman check my previous post for my stock response. its amazing the blank looks you get. people. mamy seem umable to think outside very closed social norms.
I find it hilarious that people are so “OMG YUCK!” about a tobacco product that is manufactured under close QC standards, but they’ll shove tons of the “white stuff” up their nose. That junk is manufactered by God knows who, and has had all sorts of shady additives put in it by many less than savory characters trying to earn a fast buck. But the mention of tobacoo witht the purest of ingredients sends these same people into WTF frenzies, and makes them look at you like you’re Satan himself!
Although all human beings are capable of thinking and acting rationally, in fact, very few actually do. Most people speak and act on the basis of their emotions, preconceptions, beliefs and comforting delusions. They rationalize after the fact and try to make it appear reasonable, but you only have to scratch the surface, with something as simple as offering them a pinch of snuff, to discover how irrational they truly are.
I concur with the above comments. To be fair, though, there just needs to be more information out there about snuff - a lot of people don’t even seem to know it exists, it seems to be quite rare that it’s referred to in the media or anything like that. And even when people know a bit about it, I suppose psychologically it’s offputting for many because of the way it’s used. And on that point, I agree with FischTix about certain ‘modern, trendy’ attitudes regarding ‘the other stuff’ in comparison. As a menthol cigs smoker, I’m sure the aforementioned Gletcher Prise would appeal to others who enjoy a combination of tobacco and menthol… and also Poschl’s other ones like Ozona President, Raspberry, and Apricot which I’ve tried so far really appeal to me.
inheritors --insufflator +1 and others have said esoteric and I add: tribal. regencybrougham: Maybe Swisher would be familiar to bro-in-law.
@Nachman “Whats that you say? You grind it up and then stuff it up your nose?” … and it makes you sneeze? ha! ha! ha!.. Yeah, I imagine it would, Walt!
I have also offered it to smokers who are trying to quit to no avail. I went directly from 1-2 packs a day to snuff and I find it is the undiluted tobacco experience I have always craved.
@rocktopus, cool name btw, I agree with you there it is the pure tobacco experience I still smoke my pipe though but am done with fags for good all they do is make me cough and unable to breathe. I like a pipe to relax with and snuff for the maintenence levels of nic. Stefan
I like an e cig to relax with and snuff to maintain Nic and Alkaloid/MAOI levels. You’d be surprised- the maoi’s are just as important as nicotine. That’s what ppl are missing when they say “something’s missing with an ecigarette.” I get those with snuff, and at an almost perfect level, too. My fiance and I were talking the other day about how much we LOVE snuff
I quit smoking a week ago, and for about 5 days i barely used snuff and dip. Now everytime i have a pinch of a scotch or toast I get a buzz, which used to be very uncommon! Now i use snuff for the enjoyment and nic, and dip/chew to relax or when i want a real buzz.
@Brandasaur My god man!! How did you survive those 5 Days?! I would have torn my skin off with no nic at all!!
I’m with @transistor, between the ecig and snuff I get all the cravings satisfied. My ecig gets me over the nic humps that snuff doesn’t quite satisfy, and snuff gives me all that tobacco goodness I’ve enjoyed for three fourths of my life. I can’t really imagine a life totally without tobacco; there’s just too much good about it to let it go entirely. I love snuff; all the variety means I’ll surely always have something new to try. Not to get too far off topic, but @transistor, what do you vape? I’m vaping 6V on a Saber from Vapor Moon. It’s a wonderful device that I’ve been using for nine or ten months now with no issues. I mostly vape 555 these days; the variety of eliquid just doesn’t appeal to me any longer. Funny, 555 was one of the first flavors I really liked and after months of mixing and experimenting I ended up back with - 555. I bought the flavoring from Health Cabin and mix my own juice. I vape 48mg because I’m a nicotine fiend. Does your fiance vape too?
I’ve converted my pa in law to mentholated…I gave him 2 tins of Poschl’s President about 2 years ago…he recently asked for some more and I gave him 2 tins each of Ozona Spearmint & Raspberry. He asked me today if I had anything with MORE menthol so I gave him a smashbox of Hedges and one of McC O&G and he is HOOOKED!!! Ooops …update…apparently he’s a fan of CoC extra too!
Had a fellow pipe smoker over today to smoke a few bowls. He tried some snuff and left with a tin of WOS Gold Label and a little Prime Minister.
I agree with transistor and ddavelarsen, snuff and ecigs do the trick nicely together. I vape a Joye eGo, stock 3.7v and stock resistance atty. Ordered the sampler from Johnson Creek but am not too impressed (I direct drip). Think I’m gonna try some Backwoods Brew and Alien Visions Boba’s Bounty next…
@JamesS, nice to hear what you’re vaping. Have you had any luck turning smokers onto it? I’ve tried at work out at the smoker’s area, but no takers so far; cigarettes are so much easier! LOL Direct dripping is the only way to go, I’ll second that. I’ve heard a lot of positive about Johnson Creek juice, but never tried it myself. Because I vape such a strong concentration, my choices were very limited until I started mixing my own. And then I ended up with a single flavor anyway. I think trying to turn smokers onto snuff and ecigs is our dedication. Any convert is a potential life saved and at the very least an immediate health improvement for the adopter. Let’s all keep up the good effort! Ecigs and snuff work. One of my coworkers tried a bit of SG Honey the other day. She took it exactly like I suggested and didn’t freak out. She kind of liked it, but didn’t ask for more. I’ve been taking snuff in selected meetings, along with using my ecig. People have been remarkably adaptable to my weird habits; I’ve only had curious questions, never denigration. But I haven’t made any converts that I know of either. Yet.
@ddavelarsen: I’ve had a few friends ask to take a puff on it but I don’t know too many who actually started. Then again, most of my friends who smoke are casual smokers, a cig here and there but not a real bad habit. I snuff and vape freely at work, nobody’s given me any flak about it outside of the occasional polite inquiry. As for Johnson Creek, I had high hopes, read some positive reviews, but their sampler is only available in 18 mg/ml, and while they have very nice glass dropper bottles and attractive packaging, I find their flavors to be rather bleh, honestly. I’ll use em up but I won’t order again.
@JamesS, have you tried mixing your own juice? DIY is really a good way to go; it takes a bit of investment to get set up, but not much. I use a baby syringe to measure and bought a bunch of 6ml plastic bottles from US Plastic I think it was. Flavorings are relatively cheap. I have a large stock of 100mg VG base if you’re interested. I would send you 4oz bottle for free if you’d pay the postage, as I bought way more than I’m going to be able to use in its shelf lifetime. I think DIY is the way to go really; it’s fun, you get to collect a bunch of neat stuff, and some of the experiments turn out great. I made a mixing calculator spreadsheet that I’d be happy to send to you too, that really takes the guesswork out of mixing. Give me a holler if you’re interested. Same goes for you @transistor.
100mg, whoooo that’s some potent popskull! Well I may try that route eventually, but I’m still relatively new to the habit and for now am still trying to decide what I like best, want to try a few different flavors, figure out whether I’m better on PG or VG (I’m leaning more towards VG tho, better vapor production), but yes I can see how DIY would be pretty neat. I’ll give it a think and let you know; thanks! Hell, I haven’t even been into this long enough to be hip to the good and cheap suppliers…
“undiluted tobacco experience…” --Rocktopus Nicely put. It’s the combustion that’s bad.
@ddavelarsen Wow sorry I guess I’ve been skipping over this thread… ha ha I vape a Buzz from notcigs and a V3 from Puresmoker. 306 atomizers and 510 Boge cartos. My fiance uses a V3 @ 3.7v with a 17670 batt and LR 510 atomizers/ cartos. Everything you’ve said so far I agree with 100%. Yes, My fiance is the exact same as I am, we quit together as a team She vapes the same liquids as me: CaSH tab (discontinued- I bought the last 180mgs of it from Puresmoker- they’re local) Applewood from Backwoodsbrew, and Boba’s bounty from Avejuice, and Honey Flue Cured from LiquidXpress. Those are the liquids we vape, all of them at 24mg and 26mg. I stick to the same liquids now after vaping about 200 different flavors lol! Same with snuff- but since I dont smoke anymore, I celebrate my new taste and smell senses by trying new flavors/scents. It’s MUCH more healthy. You can just FEEL it I tell ppl. I’m a HUGE advocate for quitting smoking by VAPING and SNUFF. Why not quit? Nobody will that enjoys it. Once you’re at that point where you’re coughing and saying “damn, I need to quit smoking, I don’t even like it anymore…” THAT’S the time you need to order an ecig…
hey @ddavelarsen I actually downloaded the VaporBar it has a few DIY calculators on it: http://vaporbar.ourtoolbar.com/ yeah I mostly mix my own HFC they sell the flavoring @ liquidxpress! If you haven’t tried it you HAVE TO. It’s SO good. And if you like tab flavors it’s an ultimate must have…
Just got some Alien Visions Boba’s Bounty and BWB Applewood today, they are AWESOME! I’m still sticking to my stock Joye eGo for now, it works well. Although in the future I could see doing a box mod…
Dude…I’d start vaping just to have something called Boba’s Bounty!!! That’s hella cool…i"m a Star Wars nut!!
There’s been so much happening in the vaping community since I quit frequenting the forums I feel like an outsider! @transistor, my brother uses a buzz too and he loves it. I’m glad you’re having good luck with the V3s. I used LR attys for a long time before I settled on 6V, but I haven’t looked back since then. This is weird and I’m knocking wood but I’ve been using the same Joye 510 atty for almost six months! It’s a trip and that sucker just keeps on chugging. Next time I order supplies I will look into the HFC, it sounds really nice. The 555 flavoring I got from Health Cabin is great stuff too and I bought a LOT of it when I realized how good it is. I’ll probably end up doing the same with HFC. I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up.
I always pass around my snuff tin in company and those who take a pinch usually like O&G and High Dry Toast has been a hit too when sniffed gently.
I sure wish I could get others to try snuff! I guess I don’t hang around pubs enough to find those with their inhibitions down enough to try something ‘new.’ Too many preconceptions floating around out there! One thing I will say is that the couple of people I’ve convinced to try snuff still hold it against me! They don’t like the burn and can’t get past that to appreciate the flavors. I don’t get it; the burn passes quickly, normally.
I don’t frequent the pubs anymore myself. As Geoerge Thorogood said, “Whenever I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself!” I just can’t afford the pub prices, or time away from my family anymore…i just settle for a couple of brews in the comfort of my own home. So, thus far, I’ve only been able to turn my Pa-in-law onto snuf…of course he still smokes, he just likes the medicateds to clear out the sinuses.
I’m at the pub quite often, but don’t snuff there, at least at the moment (although ironically the first time I tried snuff was at a different pub, not my current local). I have mentioned snuff to a couple of regulars and surprisingly they didn’t seem to know anything about it even though they’re more, ahem, ‘mature’ people. For some reason I assumed older people would at least know a bit about it even if they haven’t tried it. Funny true story - once I overheard a conversation where an intoxicated young woman said something about using a bullet, and for a second I thought it was going to be about snuff and thought I would interrupt the conversation to ask about it, but then the ‘bullet’ turned out to be something she’d bought from an Anne Summers party! Thank the Gods I kept quiet, or it could’ve been rather embarrassing…!
@sloth ha ha yeah one of the main reasons for using a bullet is for its discretion. The other kind of “bullet” might turn a few heads if you stuck IT up your nose… ha ha
@transistor lol, definitely! That would be some kind of very unusual fetish…!
or sloth you might have had the time of your life.
Good story @Sloth! LMAO
That is not the kind of “burn” or “drip” I was looking to experience, Sloth, LOL! (That’s as bad as asking a larger woman “when she’s due”…big mistake)
@Bart That mistake almost lost me my job at a grocery store!! In my defense, she WAS wearing a maternity shirt!! =)
@FischTix well then IMO she had it coming! Who does that? lol
@Fisch I made that mistake once…ONCE…now I’m afraid of large women and am forced to admire them from afar. (You wear a piece of clothing called a ‘moo-moo’ and you’re askin for trouble…)
WTF is a moo-moo @Bart? Stefan
A large, forgiving dress (maternity gown-like) that flows freely from the neckline down to knees or below and never tied with a sash. No pockets. But a person could hide a baby under there if they wanted bad enough. (My grandma wore one when she relaxed around the homestead)
It’s a dress that says I’ve given up all up of anyone ever enjoying the sight of my body ever again.
!Lol! Well, or it may be a cover for a professional shoplifter, who knows!
Lol sounds gorgeous! Stefan
somewhere between a dress and a large poncho.
Yep…that about covers it…I’ve always wondered why they make them so colorful though! It’s like, “Hey , look at me, I’m wearing a circus tent!!”
I think they are colorful becuase they’re like ancestors to Hawaiian shirts. Unisex and traditional garb. Juxtaposer might know more.
I think it’s cause they buy the cheapest fabric knowing at that point you don’t have a choice. That’s what I think.
To those who havent tried it yet I recommend snus. It compliments snuff very well
the moo moo reminded me of the time homer simpson wanted to gain weight so he could work from home
Moo moos remind me of when Al Bundy gets a circumcision and has to wear one
Hahaha…moo moos always make me think of WalMart for some reason…
Walmart makes me think of pink pedal pushers and flip-flops.
flip-flops make me think of the beach…
the beach makes me think of sunburn and bikinis
sunburn and bikinis make me think of kevin bacon wearing a moo moo in walmart
LMAO!
mmjkrm don’t ever tell Kevin Bacon that. Trust me you’ll have to wait for someone else to tell him the same before you ever get rid of him again.
saying the name “Kevin Bacon” makes me think of just bacon. Bacon bacon bacon.
@bob Great! Thats all I need, is “Jack Casey” following me around town on his ten speed.
Hearing the name Kevin Bacon always makes me wanna kick of my Sunday shoes
Kicking off my Sunday shoes makes me think of sex! And reading the paper.
Kicking off my shoes does NOT make me think about sex, it makes me think about buying a pair of Odor Eaters…
this thread has gone off on quite a tangent…
tangent makes me think of those crap games by Wild Tangent…
What movie was the Kevin Bacon line “Thank you sir may I have another” from? edm
animal house
LOL oh man, awesome movie. Haven’t seen that one in awhile.
I’m 35 and my 23 year old wife wore one of these moo-moos when we first started dating… needless to say it was one of the first things that I burned when we got married! LOL I was like your 23 why you wearing this granny stuff for??? Nice red and black nighties ever since… me likey!!!
So my mother is quitting smoking due to her increased chance of smoke because of hormone therapy and she decided to accept my tin of toque peppermint, and some gingerbread!
Hmm, my mom is still certain that my nose will fall off any day now, though she puffs away like she hasn’t been diagnosed with pre-emphysema. She’s never been known to be open-minded.
Got the 2nd convert! One of my best friends who now lives with his girlfriend in Valencia has finally decided to stop smoking. A few months ago, during his last visit here in Germany i have him some present: Doppelaroma Schmalzer. Last night he called over Skype to tell me that he is gotten so much into it that the bag is nearly gone and he needs new stuff. To help him to stay away from the cigs i will send him now some sample bags of diffrent scotches, SP´s and HDT´s along some of our harsher african friends. I am very curious what he has to say about all this but i have a very good feeling that i just generated another snuff friend.
Heck yeah that’s awesome @prismaster! You probably saved his life or atleast from a smoking-related illness. In my life, the ppl that smoke usually end up dying from it or getting really sick from it. I know it doesn’t happen to everyone, but it does to everyone I know… Snuff is just a BEAUTIFUL thing. I love it.
My fiance doesn’t wear moo moos lol! Thank God. But I swear she could wear a garbage bag and she’d still be sexy. So who knows AND she snuffs. When it comes to kicking a smoking habit it really helps when your partner quits with you. We both use ecigs and snuff. She vapes a Prodigy V3 ecig. She likes WoS Strasbourg, Sam G Raspberry, F&T Morocco. Those are the 3 she’s snuffing right now. Strasbourg in the Tripletech. I love that woman… I love when I kiss her and she smells like SG Raspberry…
transistor that’s so redundant. i mean this…But I swear she could wear a garbage bag and she’d still be sexy. that’s like saying eggs taste good even if you’re having bacon too. Just kidding of course.
@bob what are you talking about? Are you trying to flex your pixelated internet muscles again? lol
It’s always a challenge how to communicate “the truth” to the “masses”. No one ever really succeeded doing this. The smokers that I’ve told I’m snuffing, think Im crazy! They think snuff is disgusting, extremely dangerous, very expensive, and in general just disgusting bcs it’s got to do with your NOSE!!! Eeeww! Look! He’s jamming tobacco up his NOSE??? Eeeww!!! Here! Won’t you have a real Marl instead? But so it is - just because you’ve “seen the light” doesn’t mean that I don’t wanna live in my prefered darkness of choice!
@Viking well said! Now that the tax on ciggies is going to increase quite a lot after the budget (in Britain) does anyone think it will make a difference with regards to people taking up snuff as a cheaper way to have tobacco? Or do you think that, as Viking said, the idea of taking it up the hooter (oo-er missus, etc!) will just seem too bizarre for “the masses” to deal with?
Too weird. Remember the average human is a dimwitted superstitious idiot who cannot drag their tiny mind from herd mentality.
Tobacco up your nose? Preposterous, I say.
Snuff has tobacco in it? Damn, and here I was thinking it was flavoured vitamins. I love taking vitamins in my nose so that they kick in and make me healthy faster. Most people I know will either be down to try it right away, or write the whole thing off as disgusting. I’ve given up trying to make converts though.
