Off to the military soon, storing my snuff?

Hey there fellas, I know snuff storage has been discussed a bit before, but I wasn’t sure if there was any proper amount of time discussed. I’ll be shipping off to Texas soon (Air Force BMT), and then I’ll be heading down to Mississippi with a grand total of 6 months without snuff (give or take). As of now, I’m unsure whether or not I’ll be able to bring my snuff with me to tech school after BMT (Basic military training). I’m trying to prepare in the event that I won’t be allowed any tobacco products in tech school. I have nothing close to the slightly disturbing (yet amazing) collections you fellas have. I do however currently have 20 small tins, and will have another 50 or so coming soon. Would a bunch of mason jars (air tight) in the freezer suffice? My only concern is this snuff remaining untouched for 6 months. Cheers! Oregon

Good Luck with your training! I think your snuff will be fine in its current containers but anything added is insurance

Mason jars would work. I use Tupperware. Long term storage I’d wrap tape around the seams of the tins, just for extra insurance. Freezer is not needed, but away from light would be best. If you have any non Poschl in tap boxes use them up before leaving.

+1 on the Mason Jars. Why not just bring it with you and ask for forgiveness after the fact ? ^:)^

my fear in your situation is how many people asking to bum a snuff (which is better then asking to snuff your bum.)

I would imagine Mississippi has plenty of Scotch snuffs available. Also when storing different snuffs in the same jar you should consider cross contamination of scents. Keep the menthols separate for sure.

I can’t imagine total tobacco ban in any military environment, including schools… It would be brutal. I spent twelve years in our army (and four years in a mil. college), and we can smoke or use any tobacco product freely. Not in every situation, of course

When I had my version of basic we had to turn in any tobacco (among other things) to the drill instructors. After 2 weeks it was returned to us. I imagine the 8 week basic is similar. Once you graduate you’ll have some free time, you 'll be able to use it in your own quarters. I would take at least some with you, and get the rest sent as care packages when you’re allowed. Dip is everywhere in the military, especially among marines.

Once you get out of Boot Camp and get to your school you will be able to have whatever tobacco products you want. I know when I got out of USMC Boot Camp and then went to Marine Combat Training we were allowed to have tobacco. Most people including me dipped that way you could use it more or less when you wanted. Once I got to my MOS school you could use any tobacco products pretty much whenever you wanted to.

Two weeks without tobacco? That’s kinda enough to make me join the peace corps instead.

Mason jars will work fine. If you have any mentholated snuffs keep them in a separate jar. No need for a freezer. Will you be training in Biloxi? If so you must check out the Epitome Smoke Shop in Edgewater mall. They always seem to have a nice selection of cigars, snus, even Oliver Twist. As far as snuff is concerned, check local grocery stores. That is where you will find the best selection of scotch snuffs. .

Tins are not good , rust happens, individual ziplock baggies. or vacuum seal. small baby food jars work well.remove labels stick to jars, store in cool dry place out of sunlight.
