I have not been out yet but bigblue1 brought up the subject and im anxious to get out on the ice as im sure a few others are so i figured i’d start a thread on it.
I don’t get out ice fishing as often as I would like but I do hope to get out sometime after Christmas before New Years. Our local ice fishing lakes have the rainbow, brown & brook trout along with the fun to catch mackinaw.
well last i havnt checked the ice in about a week maybe a little more now but i know for damn sure we dont have no 12 inches not sure why its def. cold in my neck of the woods and thats funny you should mention that flathead cus i was just browsing old threads and that was literally the last one i was reading before i came back to this one. Also i thought i should throw in what i like to go icefishing for specificaly and that is usually bluegill or walleye sometimes i take my lil bro out pike fishing which i enjoy but more for sport on that one as i dont care to eat pike all that much but give me some bluegill and walleye fryed in butter and i’m in heaven bluegill, walleye, maybe a little venision,a good drink and some snuff.= one happy man
I second you that bluegill are the best as far as eating with walleye a close second maybe even tied.
Interesting ice fishing news. Not sure I could sleep at night knowing my truck was floating around Lake Michigan.
well, i finally got out on the ice me my dad and my brother went out to our secret little lake in the woods (by secret i mean you can only get to it in the winter because the swamp its in the middle of freezes over and then you can walk out to it, and the same 10 or 15 guys have been fishing it for as long as my memory reaches and not much of anybody else) anyway it was a pretty decent day went out about 1o’clock and stayed till dark got some hog bluegill all 9 1/2 inches or better and after they were all cleaned (boneless) we ended up with just under five pounds of o so delicous boneless bluegill meat. To bad thats only enough for like two meals with me all by myself:) anyway thought i’d share my fishing story even though it wasn’t that exciting… lets hear some more. Oh and bb we still only have about ten inches of ice although that particular little lake is spring fed.
Reviving a seasonal thread anybody gettin the itch yet? I can’t wait for some fishable ice. Now that its snowing like no tomorrow its all I’ve got to look forward to, short of spring.
As soon as ice fishing is open on Lake Simcoe I’ll be spending a weekend there. One day fishing for perch, walleye and pike and the next day fishing for trout.
