I bought some of this the other day and as other people have mentioned, it has a strong ammonia smell. I’ve read that people have let it dry out before using it. I was just wondering if it is safe to take without the drying process because of the ammonia? Thanks.
@vmank1q, yes, you MUST use it straight from the freshly opened “tin” to show that you are a MAN!! Jokes aside, there is nothing wrong with using it as it is. In fact, that’s the way I prefer it.
Yes. Just shove it in in big wads. Squeeze your nose tight, and let the ammonia do its job
Lol I’m glad. I prefer it this way too. And maybe I’m just thinking it, but the nic hit seems better when it’s nice and fresh Thanks for the replies. Oh and I’m going to try the ‘shove it in big wads’ technique too
yeah ammonia is gross and it’s not good for you.
I realise ammonia isn’t good for you, I was just wondering if it was ok to take when it’s ‘fresh’ and if the ammonia smell mattered.
Do you guys think it’s safe to take because it’s african? I mean like the incompetent manufacturing comment. Is there like a quality control thing or whatever you call it in place?
‘Takes all sorts. Personally I can’t think of many things I want less up my nose than ammonia.’
If you smoked then you inhaled ammonia as it’s in cigarettes.
i read what i wrote and it does sound bad. i didnt mean it that way though and i apologise if i offended anyone.
it´s ok i think, after i gave it some toughts, there is the possiblity of truth in it. i mean, we dont really know why there is so much ammonia in these snuffs. do we know ?? is it the way it is meant to be or is it a result of the manufacturing process (about which we know not that much in detail i assume --not for snuff in general, but for specific products) ?? now i am curious too.
NTSU does have a really high amount of ammonia.
It’s the manufacturing process, when you add sodium or potassium carbonate to tobacco with sufficient moisture, the resulting chemical reactions liberate ammonia and freebase nicotine.
NTSU is made in a very crude way. For instance, they do not have any tobacco mills. Tobacco gets spread out on a wide concrete slab and goats are then chased back and forth over it. The trampling of so ,many sharp hooves grinds the tobacco to a large extend.
This crude “snuff” then gets swept up by native African ladies in large clay pots. They use hollow tree trunks and large knob kieries to “grind” the snuff some more. I think what we take for ammonia may actually be sweat dripping from their upper bodies as they are totally naked while busy with this job.
The final results are sieved through the veils which this snuff ladies normally wear around their heads. The snuff then gets carried in dried goat skins to the “factory” where the plastic boxes are filled by hand.
Quality control is very strict and when anyone gets caught spitting or peeing on the snuff, that person will be removed straight away and may only come back after an hour.
I love NTSU
Seems legit.
I’m now a bigger fan of this snuff now that Pieter has the rundown of the making :-S
Tears run down my face, from the laughter, as well as the NTSU
@Pieter so what your saying is the ammonia and manure smell comes from…goats mashing their feces into the snuff as they trample it?
Ever snort some NTSU off a goats udder? No. Uh wait. I was thinking of something else.
Move along, nothing more to see here…
