ive noticed that if i hold my fingers out side of my nostrils and take a longer inhale instead of quick sharp snorts i can get the suff to 1. coat the inside of my nose better meaning that i get more out of it 2.go exactly where it needs to go the only drawback is that it seems to make my nose run more and i can take les time snuffing like this than the other way i was doing it although its seems i get less smell but more satisfaction this way when i get it right /

There are many techniques, and some suit some snuffs more than others. You could spend years practicing this sort of thing.

I’m no expert, but I think if your nose is running you’re doing it right. That snuff is supposed to chill right inside the meat of your nose. If it hits further and and harder (as I’m prone to let it do), you’re not doing it right. I somewhat recently discovered that taking a big inhale prior taking in the snuff works wonders for getting it in place properly.

it take a little bit of a longer breath in and it seems to do good my nose gets a little juicy but doesnt run like a faucet

C

Your nose is not only an olfactory system, it’s also a filter. All sorts of things that get into your nose will cause the old faucet to drip; pollen, dust, airborne particulates of every description. If your nose didn’t run, you’d be in deep doo doo. @Shavasana has the right idea; just far enough for the snuff to adhere to your nostrils, not into your sinus cavities. Any deeper and you get the opposite reaction; throat drip. I’ve been putting snuff up my hooter since '72 and I learned very quickly not to get too deep. That’s why I have little experience with the dreaded throat drip…every action has an equal and opposite reaction…that’s why I have stock in Kleenex. I go through a box a day.

i was able to do it quite well yesterday now i cant seem to manage it. everything ive tried either gets it too far up my nose or not far enough where it literally just collects at the entrance of your nose and people can see it like that. ive been doing this since july you would thing that i may have atleast gotten a little bit better but i havent every sniff is nearly like my first idk if its my pinches are to big or not. i just want to be able to get a one sniff a nostril going so its quicker that way instead of just sitting there taking 5+ sniffs to get it in my nose and still like that i keep missing it where it needs to go what am i doing wrong here

J

I don’t think it is a big deal to take more then one pinch per side. I have not been doing that long and I like 2 per side sometimes 3 depending on what I am using. I also like to take it off of my pipe knife. It works like a snuff spoon. You can control it just as well as a pinch with a little practice (although I have yet to try anything fine and dry).

J

it just doesnt go where i need it to go and i dont get as much nicotine as i would

J

I think the nic. issue is very subjective. However, what little I have snuffed to this point I can say that I have yet to have any rush (and honestly I don’t care about it). I do notice that after a few moments my desire for a pipe, for example, has waned. I am not sure if my nic. tolerance is high (I do smoke pipes and cigars so maybe) Nic. by the way can be affected by a lot of other things than just how well the snuff covers. By eating, a full meal it will take more to notice especially if it is a high carb. meal. while taking on an empty stomach will take much less to feel. Grind would also affect it as finer would release more quickly, etc.

Just when I thought F&T tins were ok for storage. My Santo Domingo tin has corrosion! On the side and on the bottom. The paint is blistered . Now they all are going in airtight glass jars.

M

If you have any Princes in your cellar better jar it up too @basement_shaman

santo domingo is my least favorite F&T the smell combination didnt work out well if it were one or the other i wouldent have a problem with the snuff

G

I read somewhere about SD’s propensity to corrode the tin. After that I moved all moist snuffs to jars. Sorry you had a bad experience with the tin.

I

I haven’t had a problem with SD tins…then again, mine don’t really last long enough for corrosion to be an issue. All the same, thanks for the heads up - I’ll decant 'em all from now on.
