Note to all long term members

Dear members, Many of you who have transitioned with us from our previous format to Vanilla may have noticed that members with two part names cannot be notified via an @ symbol. Since on Vanilla, all new members have been limited to one word names, or put a space between their names. For instance once “PieterClaassen” was “Pieter Claassen”, but saying, “hello @Pieter Claassen” would notify only a dead link, so he had his name changed to know when somone was talking to him. If any members would like their names modified so that they can recieve personal notifications @yourname, please let me know. I can either do it as a combined name or insert a blank instead of the space like “Pieter_Claassen” I will not modify any names other than those two ways, and I will not modify them without you requesting it. You may request either in this thread publicly or by personal message. Thanks, Xander

Please modify to sixphoto Thanks

@sixphoto Done! Do you want to keep all caps or lowercase?

Anybody else? I can think of a couple of Mr.'s who I know can’t get notifications. The period would have to be removed, I think.

@Xander thanks! Lowercase is just fine

PotPoe would be nice. I must keep the caps on principal. I think there is a badge in it for me!

@PotPoe You got it!

Please change me to “Jari_T”. Thanks Xander!

This must be why I’d get a notification whenever someone mentioned sloth357 with a @ symbol! There’s no chance I can change my username to something else? It’s confusing with two sloths here…

Yep, you can change it to whatever you want!

really? @sloth357 @sloth

That was a test. Each one leads to the proper profile. Who got notifications?

I think what’s happening is that folks are replying to @sloth357 without adding the “357” so they are just typing @sloth.

“The new phone books here!!! The new phone books here!!!”

@sloth You were here first, so I should change mine, really. Is there a Justin listed already? If not, feel free to change me over to that. It’s my own name, so I ought to be able to remember it…

@Justin You are now Justin!

@Justin cheers mate!

@Justin cheers mate!

Not a problem!

What’s going on here? Some kind of name swapping shenanigans!

@Juxtaposer - Something like that. The forum software doesn’t like using @ with names that have spaces, and on top of that people were confusing the original @sloth with my previous identity as his 357th iteration. You can move on now, though. Nothing left here to see…
