Nosebleed

After having around 8 snuffs yesterday, which is pretty high by my standards I just had a heavy nosebleed. Whilst the two may not be connected I suspect they are. Is this just my body telling me to slow down, or should I stop snuffing completely? It was quite a shock.

I think taking eight different snuffs in one day is not ideal because you won’t fully appreciate each snuff individually. When I first started taking snuff I couldn’t help myself, but now I take no more than 3 varieties in a day. As for the nosebleed, have you been blowing your nose heavily or picking it? I have never had a nosebleed just by taking lots of snuff.

Oh, I had a few sniffs of 4 different snuffs (rather than 8 different ones) because I’d just bought them and was pretty excited. I blew my nose between snuffs but I wouldn’t say I did it heavily. When I was younger I used to get nosebleeds quite regularly so I think the snuff could be irritating whatever the problem was then. I was just wondering if this was common, or very irregular.

Never happened to me, but I would guess that its down to the noseblowing, not the snuff as such, it does seem to be the case that some people are more prone to them. You may find getting used to a drier, plainer snuff requires less blowing. Pretty much everyone will have to blow after menthols or heavily flavoured snuffs as they tend to create more secretions, toasts or US Scotch snuffs tend to fall on the other side of the spectrum - I probably wouldn’t blow more than twice in a whole day of light use of a toast.

actualy snuff should reduce nosebleeding. Nosebleeding isn’t a big deal at all. It’s just that there are so many little capilaries up in your nose and they have a thin membrane which is easily broken.

Well, it seems to me, the snuff should just coat the inner front nostril, and usually a nosebleed does not come pouring from there, as it’s just the tissue of the inside of the nose. I would guess if a nosebleed was connected with snuff sniffing, either the blowing of the nose is too hard, or maybe the sucking in of the snuff is too hard, like a strong snort. The way I sniff snuff, I can’t imagine a nosebleed, as the snuff is just sniffed lightly into my inner nostril, and what’s to bleed there anyway? So I would think it’s not the snuff, but something unrelated, or related to maybe not doing it right. Edit: Oh I wanted to add, while sometimes I take a big snoot, I actually find smaller ones better usually. I also blow my nose out in between snuffs, but not so hard to damage myself.

If it is the snuff I’ve probably not got my technique with the moister snuffs right, they were causing a bit of irritation when I tried them. The drier, finer ones, were pleasant. I’ll give it a rest for a day or two and then try again; with gentler, smaller snuffs, and less frequent nose blowing.

You can blow the nose when needed just don’t use a lot of force when doing so.

Well, I went out for a meal and had a nose bleed there as well. The air at the restaurant was noticeably dry so I think I might of just dried my nose out. I’ll give it a rest as I said and I’ll tone my nose blowing down. If there’s any developments I’ll let people know.

Nosebleeds are a bummer. I used to get them as a kid. My sister too, she had doozies. I remember taking vitamin K for it as a kid. I dunno, ever heard of vitamin K? Maybe placebo? Anyhow, I’ve noticed that I don’t get them anymore, maybe the snuff helps. Vitamin N! I know a guy who was getting them, he claims the chiropractor cured it.

Hi Spam, as others have said, it sounds like you just overdid it with the ol’ snuff. As tempting as it is to jump straight into it your body needs time to get used to sniffing powdered tobacco up your nose. At the end of the day snuff is basically an irritant and your nose will not put up with heavy use so early on. There is no need to quit completely, just slow down with it, soon you’ll be a pro and you won’t have any problems :o)

Vitamin K is real! It aids in clotting. You will find it in grean leafy vegtables especially spinach. My mother is on blood thinners and has to restrict her vitamin K intake. when I first started using snuff, I got tiny bits of blood (never nosebleeds) but I think it was from cleaning too aggressively. Now with neti pot my problems are long gone.

Dont try to clean your nose using your finger

Just the other day i was washing my face in a hurry and shoved my pinkie , nail and all , straight up my nose. I’ve never seen so much blood drip out from my face. Related to the topic , I’ve only had a non-accident nosebleed from snuff once , and that was because i had a cold and blowing my nose too frequently and too hard.

well at least it wasn’t your eye. Although, it probably kept you from snuffing for a day or two, that’s almost as bad as losing an eye ;0)

Nah , i just used the other nostril very very carefully, not to blow out the potential blood clot too soon :).
