I’ve been snuffing for around 3 years now and never really had any issues (I suffer from rhinitis from a bad nose break and that’s it.)
However, I had a bad cold and stopped for a month and coming backt the top nostrils are constantly sore, dry and scabby when I snuff.
I’ve even had a few really sore spots on one of them. I’ve held off for around 2-3 weeks to all it to heal and then the moment a take a pinch (plain or medication) I get a really stingy burn (not the good kind we love) and my nose is in the same state it was.
Any advice, I don’t want to be melodramatic but if this continues i’ll have to pack in it
Do it. Or at least take a long break, like some months or a year. Switch to snus, or other nicotine source of your choice, and let your nose heal. Just steer clear of nicotine pouches.
I’ll have a look, but if I’m honest maybe it’s best I try and kick the habit. Maybe one day I can come back to snuff but for now I think I need to let it go.
I just googled rhinitis and it pretty much decribes something I experienced my entire life. Never knew there was a medical term for it, but I’d have to blow my nose regularly on the coldest day of winter and the warmest day of summer. Never had any symptoms of hay fever and this didn’t worsen due to pollen.
Not sure that snuff cured anything, but it made my breathing much more clear and changed things in so much as I determined when my nose needed to be blown by taking snuff, rather than my nose making that decision at inconvenient times.
I hope you get over whatever it is that’s causing you trouble and I hope it turns out to be something unrelated to tobacco, so you can enjoy a relatively unproblematic habit.
Sounds like your nose may be dehydrated, are you drinking plenty of fluids? When snuffing you need to increase your fluid intake to ensure your body has the moisture it needs to make copius amounts of mucous.
If I snuff all day long, I’ll have a sniffle the next day even if I don’t touch snuff.
Someone asked me today if I have a cold. I hadn’t snuffed for over 12 hours before they asked that. This is downside of putting strong chemical in my nose.
I have been using nicotine products for some 35 years. I have been using snuff for about 25. I was able to take any for about 20 years, suddenly after going through covid flu, I started to have an allergy to menthol Even small amounts of this ingredient in snuff, cause me rhinitis immediately. As for smoking tobacco, I don’t think I have to write that it sucks in the long run. As for nicotine sachets - tolerance builds up very quickly and before you know it, you’ll have increased your dose many times over and will be controlling it with blood pressure tablets from your doctor. Another tip - never get into nasal decongestant drops - they are more addictive than nicotine. If you like nicotine and don’t want to ruin your health, look for a snuff without menthol - Gekachelter Virginie worked best for me, but for obvious reasons, it’s difficult to buy.
Thank you for your wisdom b0n!
I agree, my nose is not very menthol tolerant after a bad flu i got from Belgium. I’m very lucky to have Gekachelter Virginie as well! I used once or twice this month and am OKish but get a very dry nose so will keep off for now. Hopefully I will snuff again in the future!
