I take snuff, and I noticed with pleasure that this summer I totally avoided getting hay fever. This cannot be a coincidence, because for as many years as I can remember every June (here in the UK) I have had terrible hay fever. I’m assuming that this is simply due to the parts of my nose receptive to pollen being protected by the snuff I have been using. Anyway, I have a friend who is a gardener who doesn’t smoke so the last thing I want to do is get him involved with nicotine - but - he suffers terribly from hay fever so it got me thinking that he could use a nic-free snuff in the hay fever season. So I’m looking for recommendations because I intend to buy him a tin to use next year. Thanks in advance.
I’ve never tried any, but the only one that seems to get even a mention to possibly bother with is Dholakia Herbal. I’ve got a free sample on it’s way with my next Mr. Snuff order. I’m curious, but not very optimistic.
MdeK Mentholin, Bernard’s Eikstrall & Poschl’s Tiger Cola. But MdeK Potpurri I & II are good but no head clearing effects.
It’s not so much the head cleaning aspect, more the lining of the nose the way snuff does to prevent the pollen from having an effect. This friend of mine would probably like a decent flavour to make it pleasurable to take.
Nearly all non tobacco snuffs are sugar based and dissolve quite readily in mucus so they won’t have that nose coating effect. Possibly Dholakia Herbal or the Molens Potpourri’s are not sugar based and might do the trick but I don’t know since I have no interest in non tobacco snuffs.
Thanks @n9inchnails - interesting. Perhaps it isn’t the solution I was hoping for.
I just tryed some of the dolakia herbal which I as well got tossed in on my latest order the flavor isn’t bad at all what I get mostly is the menthol the consistency of it kind of puts me off though it feels fine in the nose and at first glance it does seem to coat the nose well over all its not bad at all for what it is but sense I us snuff for the nic I doubt if I would get anymore myself
You know, I usually have hay fever fairly bad for a month or so during the summer and it was much less worse this year. I think you might be on to something.
I started using snuff initially for hay fever, it has been an amazing help. I don’t smoke and the nicotine isn’t a problem as I don’t crave it, so a decent herbal snuff would be on my shopping list too.
What do you take @Gunnar?
@Thunderbird I currently have a selection of non-herbal snuffs that I use, the only non nicotine one is Wilson’s sunrise but something about the sugar base doesn’t work as well as the tobacco bases. Viking Blonde has to me a very low nicotine hit, almost unnoticeable and might be an option. I also have a friend who is interested in snuff but wants a nicotine free alternative so I would love to hear what other people have to say
Thanks mate. I use Viking Blond quite a lot and get a nice ‘burn’ from it and find it’s a nice one to take regularly as it doesn’t (for me) cause drip. I don’t need a lot of nicotine in mine I find.
Viking Blonde is great, I use it as a mixer for snuffs that are either too dry or fine. I see Mr Snuff has a free 4g Dholakia herbal offer when you buy any of the larger tins of the same brand, that might be worth trying if you have an order in mind.
Thanks @Gunnar, what do you mix most successfully with VB? Would be nice to try some of your recipes.
I have successfully blended it with WoS Grand Cairo, and separately with McChrystals mild lemon, I think as long as the other snuff has a strong enough scent it can only benefit from the Blonde as it brings with it some moisture and a slightly coarser grind to make even fine snuffs very easy to take. I am planning to try the same with my other WoS snuffs as they tend to be very dry. I don’t think you can go wrong @Thunderbird
Thanks bud, I’ll experiment with a few. I don’t own many (in fact none really apart from some menthols) flavoured snuffs but I’ll give it a go.
