I’m not sure about how you feel, but I seem to have separated my snuffs into “night” and “day” categories, i.e., there some snuffs that I really prefer during the day and afternoon and others that seem to fit more into my evenings as I am winding down. I’d love to see if anyone else does similarly. Thus far… Day: Abraxas Connoisseur Cerise Crème de Figue No. 1 F&T Old Paris F&T Princes Special WoS Sherry Late Afternoon/Evening/Night: Toque Christmas Pudding WoS Vanilla F&T Macouba (I’m not sure why I prefer this one at night, but I do) All day: F&T Santo Domingo Your thoughts/choices?
I would be morning, afternoon, evening and night as groups. I do feel some snuffs make a better early morning & others before bed but that would depend on what I’m doing or planing.
I have O&G, FT Dr. JR Justice and Dholakia Ganga permanently on my night table. I don’t use them during the day with the exception of O&G once in awhile. I enjoy reading a good book and unwinding with those three in the evenings.
Abraxas, Creme de Figue, SP’s, plains, toasts during the day; Indian, florals after work and evening, de Kralingse anytime to unblock my nose. All subject to change with my mood.
in a historical source it writes “in turkish culture colorful snuff is for mornings, perfumed snuffs for afternoons and the spicy snuffs for joy” Personally i choose schmalzlers before going to bed.
Prime minister only in the morning as needed, what ever is in the rotation working hours, And at night pairing with the pipe tobacco,Indian snuffs work well
I had Princes Special in the box all night last night: worked well with gin, champagne, and whatever else has taken root in my brain this morning. It compliments the botanicals in gin very nicely (and I avoid drinking gin in the day).
I’ve not got them into list but I’ve noticed that strong clear snuffs are my morning choice. Where more complexe but mellower snuffs tend to be picked the closer to bed time.
All day - Creme de Figue or Cerise. The only problem with those two is that if I take one of them as my first pinch of the day then I tend to stick with that one all day. Otherwise: Daytime - Covent Cafe Royal / SG Grousemoor / Toque Berwick Brown / if I need to clear my nose then occasionally Poschl Gawith Apricot just as the first pinch of the day. Evening - Creme de Figue / Cerise / F&T various / Covent Golden (G.Smith Golden Cardinal) / Toque Whisky & Honey / WoS Royal George
In the day I usually want something plainer like J&H Wilsons, SP Extra, Tom Buck, moving on to Grand Cairo, Morroco, French Carotte later in the day. These days I finish off with Royal George before bed for some reason.
I tend to do the same…I have a “mood” for certain types during the day, and a mood for the evening. Day: Menthols or fruity menthols (Gletsher Prise, O&G, fruity poschls, Red Bull, etc), Coffees (SG black coffee, Qsnuff Irish coffee, etc), Full tobacco scents or outdoorsy (Viking, Molens AP, etc) Evening: Toasts like F&T HDT or Toque almond toast, exotic types of scents such as 6 photo Anarkali, F&T Seville Santo Domingo. I do overlap…in that I bring “night” snuff around with me during the day, but I prefer the “night” snuff at night more. I do take a pinch of Red Bull or Kailash before bed for a nice fresh nose as I go to sleep.
Toast and Marmalade and Grunt are ones I use almost exclusively as wake-up snuffs. I use Viking Dark and Grand Cairo for wake-up snuffs a fair amount (Viking Dark is GREAT with coffee.) but they are snuffs I use all day. Toasts, SPs, Scotches are the types I usually use all day with an occasional sweet snuff thrown in and a whole lot of Christmas Pudding. At night I reach for florals and some fruits and WoS Sandalwood. None of this is set in stone, but I do have different snuffs for different times of day. @ericthered Royal George is a great bedtime snuff. Sometimes I wake up still smelling it.
I really enjoy Gletsherprise as a “GOOD MORNING!!!” Snuff, really helps to clean out the nasal cavity. I found that WoS Anniseed Extra does something similar but I use it all day and at night because there is less of the painful throat after I lay down.
