NHL Ice Hockey

NHL Ice Hockey I’m guessing I’ll get mostly Canadian and US posters on this thread, I’m a Brit so, it might seem strange that I’ve started it!!! I’d like your 1 Favourite Team 2 Favourite Player (Current) 3 Favourite all time player (Past) 4 Best Game (Any game) For Me Its 1 NY Rangers 2 Joe Sakic (I know some will say this is past, but only just. I’ve not watched much this season) 3 Wayne Gretzky 4 1980 Olympics USA v USSR

1 Philadelphia Flyers 2 Do not really have a favorite current player for some reason. 3 Bobby Orr 4 I would also have to say the 1980 Olympics USA Vs USSR.

1 Chicago Blackhawks 2 Duncan Keith 3 Bob Probert 4 May 11th 2009 Western Conference Semi-Finals Game 6 - Blackhawks-7 Canucks-5 (Patrick Kane Hat Trick) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p62T7YcGE58 followed closely by the 1991 NHL All-Star Game in the Old Chicago Stadium during the 1st Gulf War http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvpxVE\_kQXg The Anthem before a Blackhawks game is without a doubt an amazing thing to experience live…

not enough people watch hockey on this forum had to BUMP IT!!!

That really does surprise me, i was thinking this thread would fly

How about NAHL? I can’t watch hockey on TV, but I just went to see the Wenatchee Wild vs. the Alaska Avalanche a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. All the years I lived in Phoenix I never went to a Coyote game though.

Yeah sure, North American Hockey League will do  1 Favourite Team 2 Favourite Player (Current) 3 Favourite all time player (Past) 4 Best Game (Any game) Make the posting  I also can’t watch it on TV, I’m in the UK, so its nhl.com and YouTube for my fix

  1. Blackhawks!!! 2. Patrick Kane -good first name! 3. Denis Savard -worshiped him in the early years when I was a young hockey nut, then he played for those jerks known as the Canadiens (just kidding Nightcap!) and eventually came back to the Blackhawks. 4. 1980 olympics USA v. USSR I have a lot of Blackhawks memories. Growing up my whole family (dad, both grandfathers, uncle, mom) worked for the old Stadium box office selling tickets. As a kid all my basketballs were Bulls game balls and I’d get trunk loads of hockey sticks. All my sticks were players sticks that had been used in games and had the players names and numbers on them. When they got new ones they’d send off the old perfectly good ones. When I’d play pond hockey I’d give them out like candy to anyone that would play. I still have some old sticks out in the garage with names like T. Lysiak, D. Wilson (I remember him being the only one on the ice without a helmet), D Sutter, D. Savard. Mostly lefty’s since I shoot lefty in hockey. My dad would take me and friends to see the games while he was working. I remember sitting first row on the glass next to the hawks bench and having conversations with players. Back then there was no glass separation next to the bench, just the little wall. I remember a game sitting arm and arm next to Bannerman and feeling bad for him watching game after game while Esposito was in the goal. Once I hit 15 I started selling tickets at the Stadium in High School and into college. They had just changed the name to Blackhawks as one word and the crazy national anthems had begun. Best job ever. Back in the days of Jordan and the Hawks always making it at least into the first rounds of the playoffs. My shift ended after 1st period for hockey and after half time for the Bulls. Friends and girlfriends would come see me while I was working knowing that anytime I wanted to stay for the rest of the game I’d get a free pass for seats the box office knew the season ticket owners weren’t using. Usually I’d hand my ‘emergency pass’ to the Andy Frains so they could go and kick out the people that had migrated to those open seats they had been eyeballing in the first part of the game. I miss the old Stadium. But even more I miss the free tickets. When I was a kid everyone called me ‘Gunzo’. He was a goalie for the Red Wings and then a backup goalie for the Black Hawks back when they won their last Cup in '61. I always thought he was nuts for being a goalie in the days when even the goalie didn’t wear a helmet. He was a good friend of my grandfather and owner of a shop that supplied equipment for the Hawks (some may remember when the hawks jerseys said “gunzo’s” in the back on the bottom edge). When we’d go to his shop he’d give me free hats and scarves and stuff that said gunzo’s so that’s why everyone called me gunzo. When I played hockey he’d give me 50% off skates and equipment. If not for him I’d never have gotten my parents to let me play.

@onefortheroad That’s one hell of story, thanks for that I really enjoyed it, nice one!

1 NHL favourite club is Montreal Canadiens 2 Teemu Selanne current favourite player 3 Alltime favourite is Larry Robinson 4 1987 Canada Cup finals were best hockey I’ve seen esp. the last game when Canada came back from 0-3 deficit. Really looking forward Olympic hockey this year, real good sides there: Russia, Canada and Sweden seen to be favourites but Finland is always good at Olympics and little USA is going to take on the giants as well.
