Newspapers

What newspapers you read? I’m so old that the papers were and are still the thing to know, or at least get an impression of what’s going on. I read anything I can lay my hands on, but the papers I buy are The Irish Times, The Guardian, and The Observer and Sunday Tribune on sundays. Irish regional papers- Donegal Democrat, Fermanagh Fascist etc. - are classic, like The Skibbereen Eagle, which famously warned the Russian emperor in the day: we’re keeping eye on you!

I just realised I’m spending over 1000€ a year on newspapers and magazines.

I read my papers on my pc for free. Only buy Die Burger (The Citizen) on Saturdays for the crossword puzzles.

@Allanh: You, sir, have an addiction. Me, I just read the local news paper (I kinda like the name Thule Times, tho that’s a liberal translation), if that. Then again, as long as I have my technophiliac toys and snuff, rest of the world can f[CENCORED].

@Mittens Must be The Turun Sanomat! I’ve heard that an inbred aristocratic family or two owns that like most of media in Finland and Sweden, don’t know about Norway.

@AllanH: Actually, Turun Sanomat would be Åbo Times (as the town is known in the second official language of Finland). The one I’m talking about is Pohjolan Sanomat, which is an entirely different kind of an animal altogether. While I can’t be exatly sure, I’m thinking it’s the exception to the rule about inbred media-mogul ownership. Edit: Bit of trivia, Pohjolan Sanomat was colloquially called >>Sonta-Siioni>> before it was declared politically uninvolved. That translates pretty much as >>Manure-Zion/ist>>. Fancy that.

Heh, Mittens doesn’t know that Thule Times has been discontinued: I used to subscribe to my local paper (also the biggest paper in Finland), but can’t afford it right now. I will renew when my finances will look up. I still buy a copy every now and then. I also pick up a copy of the Guardian or IHT on occasion.

@Jari T: Aww, you are right, I wasn’t aware. Well, a more accurate translation would be Thule (or Northern) Telegram, but that’s kinda iffy.

The Orlando Sentinel online and the Wilmington Star News online. And The Nation in the mail.

None - For my Job I’m behind Internet all day - Newspapers bring me "old news " Sometimes I read the " Metro " - a free paper in the morning train to work… but then again, more checking the news on my iPhone … yeah I know, Internet Junkie

I’m very wary these days of the media. In America it’s completely biased to the left it seems and usually journalists are quite lacklustre and unimaginative people…I could go on venting spleen, but why bother? lol

What? Left seems more like to me that one of the major problems with “news” at least in america is that at this point it is practicly branded (like coke or pepsi) to the left the right the far right the far left. That it seems so much news takes the stance of this far left this far right to cartoonish levels often expouse the most asinine fews of either or as well as the most deluded and insane theories of either the right or the left. Cause of some ageneda I doubt it unless the agenda is that of making as much money as possible and damn the consiquences it has on people. The agenda of painting the world as such a shit hole with so many morons running things that we have to contiunaly stay abreast of the latest develeopments because otherwise we’ll find out too late about the flu or the bombs or the heathen sex fiends that are ruining this country or that crazy drug that is robbing this country of its youth. Yeah I admit it I hate the news and consider them all a bunch of yellows bowing down to William Randolph Hearst may his evil soul rot in hell. O.k. just had to throw that rant out. Now I’am going to go read a book and have a few usefull thoughts.

As far as I’m concerned William Randolph Hearst has blood on his hands.

Sledge named ‘Rosebud’ made him do it.

Yes he certainly does have an ungoodly amount of blood on his hands.
