First off, I’d like to say a hello to this community. I have been reading threads here for a little while, as I’ve fairly recently rediscovered the joys of snuff, having successfully given up smoking some months ago. I’d also like to ask some general questions, seeking opinions on things like favourite blends, techniques and flavours. I am currently enjoying Wilsons’ Extra Menthol, McChrystal’s Clove, and the odd pinch of Toque Vanilla. I have a couple of small, unopened tins of other flavours, namely McChrystal’s Supermint and Anisette. So far, I am most partial to a blend of roughly 60% Extra Menthol with 40% Clove. It’s a lovely combination, and it leads me to wonder how many others here like to mix it up, and what kind of flavour combinations you might recommend. On the whole, I vastly prefer more ‘natural’ flavours, and am inclined to shy away from things I might perceive to be too artificial, such as complex fruit flavours. I am also in the process of figuring out suitable storage, and good portable vessels. At the moment, I am using small, screw-top metal jars which provide a good tight seal, and are idea for holding mixes. Any tips on that score? Are they ok for reasonably long-term storage? I am in the market for something beautiful to hold my snuff, particularly for taking to work and going out of an evening. To that end, and after much searching (and following a lead in another thread here), I am intending to order one of these (namely No.217): http://www.drechselshop-online.de/tabatieren.htm They look gorgeous, and of good quality. They also look as though the contents will not be prone to drying out too quickly. Now on to the business end. I am currently sniffing directly off a small snuff spoon - the one shown in my avatar in fact. It’s a little cumbersome (think a longer spoon might help), but seems to keep wastage and mess to a minimum. What’s your preferred method? Any immediate tips? I realise there are threads specifically on that, and will of course read them. Apologies for the somewhat basic questions. As I say, I’m a pretty new user, and am both introducing myself and looking for a few pointers. Cheers all - snuffski.
I’m new as well. I still have trouble with certain snuffs. My preferred sniffing method is totally dependent on the snuff. I either pinch or use a spoon. Finer grinds I pinch…Coarser grinds I always use a spoon.

Thanks for the reply. What are you using at the moment, and why? I have simply gone for what seem to be well-established, popular brands, and with scents/flavours that I’ve always liked. Haven’t tried enough of a range yet to fully appreciate the difference in grinds etc.
I am a huge fan of abraxas, and like firedrac best. it can be quite tingly. premium fin is quite thick smelling at first, and alcoholic, i didnt like it sniffing out the tub, but once in the nose… wow. i like more natural flavours too, and menthol. my typical 5 top favourites at the moment are- firedrac, premium fin, hedges l260, red bull, gletscherprise, and i have to cram 6photo anarkali in there too. really natural at all, but wow. metal tins are fine, but i dont recommend rust prone materials for long term storage. those ones on the site look great for taking a snuff out with you, though expensive, looks like screw top? be careful with wood, it can dry the snuffs out by absorbing their moisture, and it can ghost pretty bad, meaning if you plan on putting many different snuffs in on rotation… dont. it depends on the snuff. i use the same spoon for snuffs that clump, some snuffs i put to the back of my hand, and some i like to pinch and hold to my nostril.

Indeed, I had read about this. I am not sure what kind of finish is inside those containers, but they look quite glossy. Hopefully not going to be too absorbent, and in any case - I guess I can break out the beeswax and set to work on the inside if it is bare wood. Periodic cleaning and re-waxing could then take care of the ghosting issue too, I guess - but if it’s a polished finish of some kind then it shouldn’t be too bad in that respect. The tins I currently use for mixes are aluminium, so no rusting issues.
Welcome and keep coming back! Most all your current questions are here for you
If you prefer natural flavors I’d highly recommend Dholakia Black. It’s an Indian snuff that smells like a farm. Pretty sure it’s my desert island snuff atm. Toasts are also really good, and Kendal Brown from Samuel Gawith is another excellent natural snuff. Enjoy! I’m always happy to see a new snuffer!

Toasts have me interested. Silly question time - are they called so because they smell/taste like toast, or because of a toasting process? Or both?!
@snuffski Welcome to the forum! All your questions have been asked many times over. The best advice to a newbie is read, read, read. There are hundreds of threads here with tons of information. Next best advice is to order a lot of snuff; get as many varieties and manufactures as you can comfortably afford to try. Don’t worry too much about storage right away until you are ready to buy bulk. I’ve tried hundreds myself and am still trying new ones and learning. I find that most of my all day type snuffs are SPs, toasts and scotches. I sometimes mix a bit of this or that into the scotches to keep it interesting. However, many other styles and flavors are out there for exploration, and very little of it is unpleasant…
Very timidly say’s hi all, I’ve been reading for lo long but finally Bit the bullet and joined.
