Evening all, I have recently discovered the wonders of snuff. I have got some Poschl Gawith Apricot, and some Hedges menthol snuff. The problem is the Hedges menthol is so strong, the tiniest pinch makes my eyes water! I need to blend it with a plain base snuff. Does anyone have any recommendations for what to mix it with? I’ll be taking a trip to My Smoking Shop in preston this week to buy some goodies! Thanks Paul
Blend it with a good strong tobacco flavored one.
Since you’re a newbie your best bet is not to blend it at all. But continue to take the snuff until you can manage it. That’s how it’s done, imo. Plus there are a range of other snuffs to choose from that aren’t so mentholated. It just seems a bit odd to get into the habit just to want to start blending…

That makes me a bit jealous! While you are there please thank them for me for their excellent service to Canada. To dilute the heavy menthol I think one of the Samuel Gawith Crests would do - they are straight-up tobacco. I like Red Crest myself. I think Wilson’s makes a Natural which may more closely match the grind of L260 but I haven’t tried that one yet. They do not offer Toque snuff online, otherwise I would suggest Toque Natural, or if you want a bit more nic, Toque Quit.
Thanks for your replies all. Crullers, thanks for your recommendations, I will have a look at the crest snuffs. Saucy Jack, I’m not getting in to the habit to want to start blending, I want to blend this particular snuff to make it more palatable and enjoyable. id rather have a snuff I enjoy than one im taking just to get used to it. I appreciate where you’re coming from and I thank you for your input all the same
All the same it’s an odd beginning. =))
Hedges is quite strong and can be rough on anyone who doesn’t do a lot of menthols. If your nose allows you to enjoy strong menthols just ease into it slowly with bigger pinches as you become used to it. I enjoy strong menthols but can’t use them all day. It will take time to see what works and doesn’t work for you snuff wise. Most of all enjoy it and there is much to be learned here on Snuffhouse.

@Saucy_jack, I can tell I have much to learn. Snuff keeps how long? Could @Seaside83 store it…(how?) for future use until he’s ready to try it again? I read Snus users tastes change pretty quick so to always save a Snus one doesn’t like now for future use 'cause in a few weeks or months they will most likely love it. Is Snuff like this, too?
Welcome, Gawith apricot was one of my first snuffs mainly because it was one of the only good ones available localy. Until nothing was available and that open a whole tin of worms. I mean a whole tin of snuffs for me. I started ordering things I never tried before. Some I liked, some I didn’t and then went back to them and saw they are not ad bad I tought. Once you get used to snuff you also get a feeling for things. And by the way. For me and I wonder what others think? gawith apricot I think was always about the buzzzz I could snuff other snuff but when I snuff Gawith I feel the buzz. About menthol, Some snuffers snuff menthol because besides the N buzz they like that menthol shock up their nose. I enjoy it occasionally. And it depends to what extreme I was recently in england on Holiday and came accros redbull. I was only excited to get it because it was something I read about but couldn’t get where I live. So I grabbed two. I could snuff anything else and was wondering why it says extra strong on it. I just couldn’t get enough. What happened was. I ran out of it, so I came on here looking for more. I started ordering red bull and while in was on here discussion came up about different snuffs etc. So I thought you know what. Let me be open minded and order a few other snuffs. And some schmalzers people recomended. I took out different snuffs I didn’t use in a while to get through while in was out of red bull. By the time my order came. I had to try everything I never tried before. By the time I got to the red bull it just wasn’t the same. I feel that burn much more now. Because schmalzer didn’t burn so much for me My point is the best thing is. Is to try to get comfortable with how you snuff. If you want to continue with the methol keep on trying. I think eventually it won’t burn you as much. But if its not what you want try something else. Their are sooo many things to try.

@Valiant yes, he could keep it for later, because yes snuff users tastes can and do change. As for storage put it in an airtight container. As snuffers we all do things differently, some folks mix their snuff others do not. I was just surprised really by hearing a beginner asking about mixing snuff. Lol originality points I’ll give him. Lol
thank you all for your helpful advice. after reading it I think I will store it for later use, obviously dipping in every now and then Jack, I guess im just not afraid to try doing something different!
@seaside83 hey pal, we’re just glad you’re here. Welcome! If you have any questions feel free to ask, we’re not scary here, just eccentric! :))
Not sure why mixing seems to be an advanced snuffer topic. I have been mixing snuff since the first month, ones too strong, ones too weak… combine.
Usually because it takes time to know snuff or be able to take a strong snuff. Why ruin a perfectly good “strong” snuff or finely ground snuff because you lack the skills to understand/take snuff? Mixing snuff is not a symbol of mastery. Understand the snuff first @coreymillia and when you can snatch the stone from my hand, grasshopper, then you can begin your journey. =))
I can only agree with @saucy_jack Some snuffs are very good, but so hard to take you can only leave it for a while, when you come back to it, it has gone stale.
There’s a lot of fuss about snuff going stale but properly kept/stored there should be no worries.
OT, but are you @saucy_jack because of an interest in Jack the Ripper?

The main thing I find is that you don’t want to dig your fingers around in snuff a lot and then let it sit for a while, that’s when it will actually spoil sometimes. If you’re decanting in some way that’s not your fingers it keeps very well.
@horus92 I’ve never experienced that nor any instance of snuff spoilage.
Perhaps a factor of my climate or my fingers!
