I’m new at this forum and have a few questions. I recently began rolling my own. I have wondered what I could so with the tobacco that is too fine to roll. Then I discovered that I could make snuff. I’ve been dipping for several years. My favorite is Scoal Longcut Strait. Finally the question: What are the steps I need to take to make snuff from my “left over” tobacco?

Welcome. Here’s a fine thread about making your own snuff: http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/6032/snuff-making-101/

Thanks Jeri-T. That’s helpful. I just bought some washing soda and there is a caution. Do I need to be concerned?

Unless there’s a huge reason you don’t want to or can’t buy a can of snuff for 3 dollars I wouldn’t make your own until you try some brand names Especially for a beginner I would suggest leaving it up to the pros and check out mrsnuff.com for great USA shipping

It’s not that I don’t want to buy snuff; I just enjoy making things if I can.

theres tobacco thats too fine to roll?

Yes, Firestarter. It’s like powder. Good for making snuff I think.

In snuff-making 101, is this a recipe for moist or dipping snuff?

My first snuff experience was grinding up some dry decent-quality rolling tobacco just with my fingers and sniffing it. It actually did the job pretty well so nothing wrong with that some make better snuffs than others though. It got me curious enough to order some commercial types a few months later.

I have a “top-o-matic” cigarette rolling machine. I buy bulk tobacco and the pre-made tubes with a filter. When I get to the bottom of the tobacco bag, the powder is too fine and jams the machine. I pour the powder into the tube, a little at a time and pack it down as I go. It’s not perfect but it’s workable to get my by a day or two until I get back to the tobacco shop. I haven’t bought “commercial” cigarettes in years and I don’t miss them one bit! The hassle of making my own cigs makes me smoke less. It works out to less then half price and none of the 4000 chemicals… I notice I don’t wake up in the middle of the night hacking my lungs out anymore since I switched. Now when I occasionally smoke a “regular” cigarette I get a headache!

I’ve been rolling my own actually injecting for about one month now. I have accumulated about 2 cups of Shake ( too fine to roll). I made my first batch of dipping snuff per recipe on 101 and am letting it sit for one week. Smells like ammonia at this point.

I couldn’t wait the whole week before I samples my first batch. No too bad. I’d like it to be sweeter.

I’ve never been into “sniffing” snuff (I think you call it “snuffing”); but I’ve taken my snuffmaking to a new level. I strained the shake from my ryo tobacco into a finer powder and snuffed that. Not bad for my uneducated nose.

i just used to pour the finer stuff into a cig as i was rolling it haha. never bothered me. also never found the stuff useful for snuff either- too acidic and too sneezy so not worth the effort really. never thought of making something to dip.

Each batch is an improvement. I’m now on 4th batch.
