Ive been snuffing for about a week now and I seem to enjoy W.E Garrett but since today and yesterday I feel like I cant really taste or smell it that much anymore… Does this ever happen to any of you? I was wondering if Its probably because Ive gotten used to it or something…

X

Try blowing your nose and then trying again.

S

or blow yer nose in a hot steaming shower.

B

Jstar, Switching varieties around seems to keep it real for me

J

Thank you all for you responses. I tried blowing my nose but it was already clear since i had blown and cleaned my nose in the shower. I seemed to have got the smell and taste back by trying a bigger pinch. I guess I was pinching to small this week because when i first tried this it nearly blew my head off. I think Ive a adapted to it a little so the bigger pinches are ok now and provides me with the smell and taste… I really wanna try the high dry toast #22… Does it compare to W.E Garret in anyway or are they totally different in taste… I like something that is strong in smell and taste with pretty high nic… I already have rooster so no need for that recommendation… I like the W.E better than rooster at the moment.

W

#22 is more of a…well toasty and nutty flavor instead of the smokey, woody flavor that w.e. garrett has. I personally prefer #22, and think it is a well received snuff by the others on this forum. I will tell you that in terms of strength, this it isn’t a kick in the face like rooster.

S

WE Garrett, jstar; jstar, WE Garrett. Now you’ve properly been introduced. If Rooster’s the kick in the face, then Bruton’s punching while down. Square’s really tasty too, I don’t know about the nic in that though.

J

Thx Watadork , Im excited to try the #22 out… This whole snuff stuff is exciting for me right now , trying out the different flavors and being able to collect nice boxes etc , seems like this is gonna be a great hobbie / w pleasure combined… So glad I found out about this stuff , Just quit smoking cigs 2 months ago and being introduced to the snuff world will have a greater chance on keeping me cigarette free for good…

J

@thx squarfiend Ill prob try those out too… Im excited to try em all haha.

Square ranks 16th among US snuffs for unpronated nicotine. However it ranks 6th for mg of nicotine per gram

S

I actually think Square to be the best American plain Scotch. It’s not as harsh as bruton or rooster and the nic hit is nice, too.

J

unprotonated nicotine rules!

L

@ juxtaposer I wonder what technique they use to get the protons out of the nicotine? If they could figure out a way of removing the electrons as well, a Minor’s Tin of McChrystal’s Mild Lemon would weigh more than Jupiter, and would therefore pack even more of a kick than it currently does, with its protons and electrons intact and jumping around in that confusing, quantum way that they do.

J

Free or unprotonated nicotine does not have a proton or positive chemical charge. It has an effect on sensory nerves, which contributes to the impact or strength. Free nicotine is absorbed more quickly than protonated nicotine across mucous membranes. Free nicotine transports across cells more rapidly than protonated nicotine.

X

He means its not as strong but hits harder.

J

Fermentation; a metabolic process whereby electrons released from nutrients are ultimately transferred to molecules obtained from the breakdown of those same nutrients.

S

I have to keep a rotation of snuffs, or else one flavor starts to become less noticeable. On the subject of nose-maintenance: I use a neti-pot or a sinus rinse about once a day. Keep the nose and the sinuses clean, and usually have no drop off in flavor/aroma.

Z

A trick I have found that helps. Use a mentholated snuff, let it run its course, then use the one you really want to smell. Often works great for me.

B

Zanapus I often use menthol as a palate cleanser so to speak. It really does work very well.

J

I know im a little off topic now but … i had a question about toast snufs… I used to smoke lucky strike cigarettes and it had a toasty kind of taste to it compared to marlboros… does F&T high dry toast or wilsons #22 compare to this taste in anyway? If not is there a toast snuff that has a taste similar to lucky strikes… Im sure it wont be exactly the same but something that would come close would be great!

B

I smoked Lucky shorts for quite a while . HDT and Toque Quit bring back some of the good memories for me.

J

@Bart ,awesome thank you bart for the response

Thread resurrected. Does anyone know if there are studies about free/unpronated nicotine levels for nasal snuff. There are lots of studies done with the free nicotine content of cigarettes and American moist snuff/chew. I feel like they all would be very similar but just don’t have the data to make that claim.

I think there is an “illusion” of Potency that can be explained by moisture and grind. Thus making some toasts and whites seem more potent than this or that due to surface area and mucosa absorbtion rate. I think the whites like Willie Pete are just more “efficient” at delivering the nicotine across the mucosa.

But, I’m not a biochemist and this is just my two cents worth. I just think if we had the data many an argument about Potency would be resolved…maybe. Thx.

I would recommend getting some Indian snuff in your life.

Tobacco can be like coffee in regards of optimized taste. You take too much coffee then it all starts to impress the pallet less intensely and without nuance.

Masala is the masala of life.
