New to snuff

I am extremely new to snuff! The only type that I have tried so far is American Peach. I’ve finally mastered getting the snuff in my nose as opposed to up my nose. My question is what next? My nose starts running, tears streaming from my eyes. Is this normal? If I blow my nose will I lose the snuff that’s in my nose? Please help!

I’d recommend getting some newbie friendly proper nasal snuffs. Anything by Poschl/Ozona, or the Rockit label are good easy grinds and nice flavors. Everything else comes with practice/experience. Blow the nose, not too hard, and do it again. Maybe smaller amounts.

You need to get yourself some more varieties of snuff. Peach is no snuff to start with. Poke around the supporter shops on the left side of the page, and get some more snuff. Get a couple from each brand. That way you’re more likely to find something that works for you right now. Down the road you’ll probably move on to the more “difficult” snuffs.

Badfish 74, welcome to the forum, you’ve come to the right place!! Seems to me you are a tough guy because to start off with American Peach is wild!! Most of us began our snuffing careers with something a lot milder. All Poschl snuffs are suitable for this this purpose. And of course you should get yourself a tin of Poschl Gawith Apricot. This snuff is specilally made for beginners and veterans plus all the in betweeners. No joking. Cheers

I started with the Poeschl’s, Mc Chrystal’s Violet and Raspberry and the Lotzbeck’s. They are all very easy on the nose. Beware that Lotzbeck Perle is kinda iffy, so you shouldn’t judge the whole culture with that one. Other than that, Dholakia Swiss Chocolate and the Molens De Kralingse snuffs are mostly course grind. Happy snuffing!

Well, all the Wow!, Blast, and Temptation label snuffs are good for beginners too, I’d say.

Hello Badfish74. I can only concur with everyone else - you’ve started off with one roughneck snuff! Try using smaller amounts and build from there. What method are you using - are you pinching or taking it off the back of your hand? I would recommend pinching as it’s easier to regulate the dose. There are lots of different types of snuff out there that are suitable for those just beginning - Poschl is a great place to start, Toque is another. I started with McCrystal’s O&G - its a nice menthol that doesn’t hurt too much. Poschl Gawith Apricot is a great starter snuff, as are a lot of the Toques (don’t go for the toasts or Spanish Gem just yet). Also a plain SP might be a good starting place. Happy snuffing, and welcome to the forum!

Thank you all very much for the input! It’s nice to know that the snuff I’m using is in fact rough and I’m not just being weak! As far as the method I’m using, it’s the pinch. I just seem to waste less that way. Thanks again for the comments and welcome! Definately a BIG help!

As far as the chat, I’m using a blackberry and am not able to join. As soon as my computer is back up, I’ll be sure to check it out. Thanks.

I find the Samuel Gawith Snuffs very easy for beginners. Try something like Golden Glow, Gold Mull, Richt Kind, Princes Gold or one of their fruit snuffs. They really are good snuffs, not throaty or sneezy. Nice and fluffy and moreish. O&G is always good - the menthol makes things easier.

Welcome aboard Badfish74!

I’m not sure I’d call Golden Glow a beginner snuff. It burns more than just about anything else. The others you named are great, and I’d have to include Cob Gold. Good snuffs

Id recommend the Poschl as well. Its so easy to snuff and very enjoyable, but at the same time its very clogging. Anything by Toque, Except the toasts, are very easy as well. Ive never had a Toque Snuff I didnt like. Oh, and I do believe I know you from snuson, lol. And ALEx, i think you could use the scheme that snuson uses because its soo much easier on the eyes for a forum as not EVERY single topic is just jumbled together. Just a suggestion for the future.

If all there was to sniff was Pöschl, I think I would have given up right away. That snuff does not agree with me. I’m glad my first snuff order had a variety of brands.

I think you will either love or loathe Poschl snuffs, most people love them (they must do as they are the most successful snuff manufacturers in the world). I’m not a fan though. The Bernard snuffs are more my thing if I want a German snuff.

I highly like Poschl snuffs. Did/do they ever make an non-menthol?

Their Schmalzler’s are probably not mentholated.

@Industro: Their Schmalzler’s are mentholated? That’s kind of non-traditional, isn’t it.

The Schmalzlers are definitely not mentholated! That means Schmalzler “A”, Schmalzler Doppelaroma “D”, Südfrucht and Perlesreuter Waldler Schmalzler are all in the clear as regards menthol. For non-menthol, non-Schmalzler German snuffs you’ll have to go to Gebr. Bernard or von Eicken. I would strongly recommend the Bernard snuffs: Alt Offenbacher Köstlich Civette Extrafein Feiner Offenbacher Cardinal Feinster Kownoer Gekachelter Virginie Pariser Nr.2 All are plain snuffs but they are all different, getting their flavouring from the various tobaccos and fermentation methods used.
