Hi guys, I’m new here and new to snuff. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a strong snuff (as I’m giving up smoking and want that nicotine hit) that’s available in the UK. The only one I’ve tried so far is J+H Wilson S.P Number 1, which is the only one I could find local. Thanks for any advice.

V

And also, what’s a good UK website to order from? Thanks again.

N

The best UK sites are the ones on the banner on the side of this site, just about every member here can vouch for them

D

@vmank1q I’ve been a smoker for over 20 years, and there are a few that hit me pretty hard. Toque Quit, Natural Toast, and SP Extra, F&T High Dry Toast, and anything from Quit With Snuff (QSnuff) or FUBAR that I have tried. Although i have noticed that as my technique has improved, so has my nicotine hit. I almost never felt the nic in the beginning with gobs of it in my nose, but now I can take just one good pinch and get all swimmy. Just try to keep it in your nose and the snuff will treat you to a wonderful experience and a ton of ‘Vitamin N’.

V

Thanks for the replies guys. I know what you mean about keeping it in your nose. I think 75% of the time it goes straight to my throat. But I’ve been reading up on that and working on it. I’m going to look into what everyone recommended…Thanks.

T

Yep what @Vathek said. Viking dark. Definitely the strongest easy to obtain in th UK snuff. And is quite smoky also very easy to take for a beginner.

M

I would look up Mr.Snuff , he has a great site with a lot of selection, and great service! And agreed, Toque QUIT is a good one!

D

My advice is not to expect a buzz like from a cigarette. The nicotine is there alright, but it is a ‘smoother’ delivery. I can’t smoke at work, so I take the snuff every 30 minutes or so like medicine and it builds up in my system nicely. This prevents me from getting the craving in the first place.

N

Toque Quit and SP Extra do it for me. haven’t smoked cig’s in 3 years

T

The trouble with toque quit is it is very fine so tough for a beginner. Where as the Viking dark is a medium grind so much easier to take. I do love quit though and use it at least once a day.

M

Exactly what @doctorbeat said. The nicotine buzz is MUCH different… I compare it to chew, kinda lol. I usually end up sniffing a lot of snuff before I get any sort of “buzz”. Believe me it can be quite a buzz . @nightcap : Good job man, cigarettes was a tough one to kick, I know from experience @theratroom : Agreed, fine and dry snuffs are tougher on the beginners. I have never tried Viking so I can’t say anything about it lol

D

The comments are correct about toque quit. While I love it, it is a bear to take. One bad move and it’s in your throat, lungs, sinuses and sometimes your scalp. As a fellow beginner, I tend to get more out of lower nice snuff because many are really easy to take. It seems there is a sweet spot that the snuff can land in, and it’s a lot easier to hit with the other stuff.

N

I started off with dry snuffs. Never got into the moist/oily ones. I found squeezing the pinch tight and slowly moving my thumb and finger, I learned how hard to sniff. the key is to sniff, not snort. Snorting is what gets it to the back of your throat.

E

I’ve found that you can get a good ‘bump’ of nicotine from almost any good quality snuff. The problem for smokers is they’re used to an extremely fast nicotine delivery system. So if the effects aren’t immediate, they think they aren’t getting anything , or at least not enough to satisfy it as quickly as they’re used to. Smokers tend to unconsciously associate ‘throat hit’ with an immediate dose of nicotine - and they’re right. In the next second or 2 after they feel that sensation, they have nicotine going directly into their bloodstream. The problem is when a smoker feels that slight sting in his sinuses from snuff, he thinks that nicotine should then be on it’s way. The problem is that the mucus membrane still has to absorb the nicotine from the tobacco first - then deliver it to capillaries that in turn deliver it into the main bloodstream. Much slower… The real trick to using snuff to replace smoking is to head off the need before it becomes too great, and then to keep the nicotine level high enough in the bloodstream to keep that next craving from becoming too intense. Small, frequent pinches every 10 to 15 minutes may be necessary until you feel satisfied. (And you don’t necessarily have to wait for the odor or the ‘burn’ to go away. Neither of those sensations are indicative of how much nicotine you’re getting. They just indicate how strong the flavoring is, or how irritating the tobacco itself can be.)

G

As a relative newbie I recommend getting a snuff bullet for scotches and toasts. Use it often when you are craving cigarettes. Less sinus burn and less sinus drip. I also recommend getting some Toque Quit and Sp Extra for that bullet. Good luck on quitting smoking. I have been smokeless for several months without any cravings or relapses using snuff.

D

I started off with the very fine and dry Scotches…and did it totally wrong the first time. Since I’ve been snuffing, the only time I have a cigarette is if someone gives one to me. I prefer the nicotine buzz from snuff more than cigarettes. Good decision to want to quit!

P

I’ll throw another snuff onto the suggestion pile, the one that helped me the most was Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Brown. It is a medium grind and is fairly easy to take.

P

@Vathek “It’s only available from http://www.mysmokingshop.co.uk/” That´s not right. I got mine via snuffstore.de which i guess got all the diffrent ones of Viking. I second you this snuff´s nature.

P

Taking snuff is an adequate alternative to smoking. Grasp as much snuff as you can hold for each pinch and take as many pinches as required. If you merely tickle snuff with tentative fingers you will, like Rachel of old, mourn for what was lost and find no comfort. A snuff that is both high in nicotine content and easy to take in the manner described is (as others have said) Viking Dark, available from My Smoking Shop. Depending on your current nicotine tolerance, some five to ten grams daily will suffice.

V

Wrote something out and I edited by mistake Thanks for the replies. I’ve ordered viking dark, toque quit and some tom buck, which are all supposed to be strong. I’m going to practice on the weekend and continue to smoke and then Monday I’m going to have a go at quitting. I’ve cut down quite a bit the last three days using snuff, so not to bad. Still having trouble keeping it in my nose, but I suppose I will get better at that.

P

@vmank1q just keep going and your skill will improve over time. it´s just a matter of practice for the most part.

T

I say go ahead and order a fine snuff. Once you get used to taking snuff you can take toasts and scotches with relative ease. These days, I enjoy all types of stuff. It doesn’t matter what the grind is. Do yourself a favor and don’t avoid the fine, dry snuffs- you’ll deprive yourself of some very unique and enjoyable blends of tobacco!

J

Also worthy of note; Clinical studies of the nicotine absorption rates from snuff have found that virgin users absorb much less nicotine than regular users. Even occasional users had lower rates than regular users. Knowing this I would recommend snuffs that are pleasant and enjoyable for regular use as the difference between strengths of snuff does not appear to be as large as the difference between strengths through experience. I personally have found snuffs others have deemed weak such as schmalzers to be delightfully uplifting in the nicotine department. Keep at it and you will certainly be rewarded.

D

You know, I’m pretty sure I still get snuff to the back of my throat, I just don’t notice it as much any more. I can get a large pinch of HDT and give a good old sniff, and I don’t get any discomfort. I’m wondering if regular users are really that much more ‘accurate’ or if we just become so accustomed to it tht we don’t notice so much? The good news is that I was a very occasional user until a few weeks ago (can’t smoke at new job) but I have got used to regular use very quickly. I don’t think it takes long to become a ‘seasoned’ user, just ride it out. Maybe this is why experienced users get higher nicotine levels, less percieved irritation = less mucus washing the snuff away from the membranes.

D

It’s funny, toasts and other fine grinds don’t beat me up if I pay a bit of attention, but the Quit just fires straight into my lungs every time. I love the plain tobacco scent, but jacking myself on it is just brutal. I think I need a special Quit technique or something. I’ve got about 95 grams to use so I’d better figure something out =/

D

@Juxtaposer I’ve definitely noticed that the more accustomed to taking snuff I am, the more of the nicotine I feel.

J

If you like the scent of Quit, Toque Natural is the same in a larger grind.

M

@mr. snuff: as far as I can tell the general consensus is that it is made by Samuel Gawith given it’s “unique” packaging. I hope this question means you’re trying to get some for sale. I know I for one will place an order.

E

I wrote Dave asking about Viking, and now I see him here asking that same question. Darn - and I thought he knew everything. And yes - I’d be right on the bandwagon buying some Viking if Mr. Snuff starts to carry it!

W

Trouble is that Dave has also forgotten more about snuff than we will ever know! Dave, forget that I mentioned this!

S

I’ll buy some as well.

A

@vmank1q Don’t forget to maybe investigate Swedish snus and see if it is for you… regardless of whether you enjoy nasal snuff or not. Enjoy

T

@mr.snuff it is defiantly the house snuff for my smoking shop. I already asked Simon there. Here was his answer. we have had them produced to replicate the Leonard dingler snuffs that are no longer available, as we were the European importers and distributers for them.

V

Well I bought some Viking Dark and so far its going great. Didn’t smoke anything until 3:30pm today and then had a craving and smoked two. I’m not beating myself up about it, because for me two is good. I will quit smoking, it’s a LOT easier now! Thanks everyone for the help, I appreciate it.

D

@vmank1q Today is my first day entirely without smokes. I haven’t pushed myself to make the switch, it’s just been happening on its own. I would smoke most of a pack per day just a couple months ago, and i was down to just a couple per day. I ran out of cigs last night and I just decided not to buy any more. Once I became more comfortable with snuff (and I found ones that I really liked and were good to take) I seemed to crave it more than smokes. I hope the transition is as smooth for you as it has been for me. It’s nice to be away from those things.

V

Thanks Dogwalla. I haven’t been taking it long, it hasn’t been a week yet so it’ll take time to get used to it and to ‘snuff’ properly. But I’m enjoying it so far

D

I’m not trying to quit, but since I’ve been snuffing more, I’ve found that I’ve been smoking less through pure laziness. I smoke outside, and sometimes it just seems too cold or wet to bother. I used to smoke a cigarette just before bed, but when I’m ready to fall asleep, I just can’t be bothered to go outside when snuff is at hand. This is in complete contrast to how I was until recently. I would put up with almost anything to have a cigarette! I think that cutting down, or even quitting altogether is something that happens pretty much by itself when you get into snuff. If I were in your shoes, I’d concentrate less on not smoking, and more on enjoying snuff. If you take care to snuff often, you’ll find yourself thinking less about smoking.

D

I had no intention of quitting when I started snuffing. It just sort of happened. Every now and then I’ll enjoy a RYO with a friend. I enjoy snuff more than I ever enjoyed cigarettes.

V

I’m still smoking but down to just a few which is pretty good. I’m just hoping when I get better at taking it, them I can quit smoking altogether.

P

@mr.snuff - That will make quite a few of us (myself included) smile.  I know that I’ve been wishing to try some of the Viking snuffs!

D

WOOOHOO!  I want to try that stuff really bad.  Too many good reviews to not have some.

E

Excellent news, Dave.

V

I’m mostly using the Viking dark and brown and I’m down to a few cigarettes a day. Today I’ve smoked four which is a lot less for me.

I don’t know much about snuff’s but I’m liking the viking ones

S

I’m looking forward to trying the Viking line

D

@Vathek: I have never experienced a ‘poser’s snuff’, although you’re probably right. What I have noticed though is that people who are trying to quit smoking often search for a snuff that will give them a nicotine buzz. I don’t get a buzz from cigarettes, they just make me feel ‘normal’, so I don’t really understand this mindset. I think snuffs that have so much nicotine that they emulate the fast delivery of cigarettes are probably way over the amount of nicotine you need to eliminate craving. The key with snuff is to be patient- the nicotine just takes longer to get into your system. If snuff takes several minutes to get nicotine built up in your system, then how much nicotine is a snuff delivering if you can feel its effects within seconds of taking it? Probably too much in my opinion. I’d advise new snuffers to take snuff when they feel a craving, but to put up with the craving for five minutes afterwards and see if they still feel like smoking.

F

Yes, I concur with the general opinion here. If you wait the precious five to ten minutes for the nicotine to kick in, you will find the “buzz” to be quite satisfactory with most snuff.

V

No smokes today. Craved once or twice but nothing major, in fact it’s been quite easy so far. (Compared to the other times I’ve tried to quit!!!)

I’m also adding Hedges ‘the snuff’ to my strong ones as I’m getting a pretty good nic hit from that too. So Viking Dark/Brown and The Snuff.

Any other strong ones currently available in the UK?

V

I have torque quit too but finding it difficult to take, which is probably just inexperience on my part.

D

I went to a bar last night and smoked an entire pack of menthols in about 3 hours. I am so wrecked today.

V

Second day without smoking**

I’ll see if I can get some of the Fubar Grunt snuff, and give that a go. And I’ll try mixing O&G with T-Quit, see how that goes too.

I’ve found that If I use the hedges and then five minutes later use the viking I get a really good hit from them. I’m probably over doing it as one poster said but I’m not smoking which is a good thing.

I’m enjoying this snuff malarkey so far And it’s easier to stop smoking, so pretty good.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

V

One more question, what UK site can I get the Fubar Grunt from? Thanks.

P

F.U.B.A.R. Grunt has been difficult to acquire of late.  You might want to try one of the flavored F.U.B.A.R. snuffs instead – I understand the tobacco base is the same for all of them.  Check the American snuffs section at Mr. Snuff.  F.U.B.A.R. is made by Dholakia, an Indian company, but it was created for the American market, so Dave classified it as an American snuff.

V

Oh ok, thanks Pipen.

V

Is Mr.Snuff UK based? The reason I’m asking is because of shipping times.

D

@vmank1q Yes it is. It only took one week to get from the UK to Alabama (if you’re wondering about the states)

also check out some of the American Scotches on Mr.Snuff as well. I highly recommend Square by Swisher.

V

i thought mr stuff and it came back within two days, i thought it was a us based company. i’ll try the american scotches on my next order. and today is my 8th day without smoking and it hasnt been that bad. few craves here and there but nothing i couldnt hadle. snuff has been amazing to quit to smoking!
