Hey Everyone! Just wanted to get some recommendations for snuff I should try? I’m 19 and been snuffing for about 2 months, I was at a festival and a guy with purple hair passed round a small wooden box, long story short I ended up here and loving snuff I have tried Red Bull, Gletscher Prise, Gwaith Apricot, Ozona Raspberry, S.P No1 and Toque Expresso. I love a more menthol flavour but would like to expand my horizons. What do you guys suggest I try? What are the fundamental snuffs? I appreciate all suggestions. Matt.
Toque (they have a link on the left side of page) has a great deal where you can get 10 tins for the price of 9. You’re allowed to pick which kinds you want so choose anything that sounds interesting to you. With free shipping to boot! Wilson’s of Sharrow also has a similar deal but I don’t think you get to choose your own varities. I was in your position not too long ago and to be honest the best way to try new ones out is simply to buy them and try them. If you don’t like them, you can offer them up for trade here. Welcome to the forum
I love these posts because it reminds me of when I was a new snuffer and how exciting it all was. The best part is … it gets BETTER! MORE excitement! MORE happiness! I will suggest Fribourg and Treyer High Dry Toast. But not at the expense of any others.
When I was a new snuffer there were no personal computers let alone an internet!
Some newbie-friendly snuffs I have enjoyed and recommend: Toque Berwick Brown Toque Chocolate Wilson’s of Sharrow (WOS) Strasbourg WOS Brunswick (although you have to physically stuff it up your nose, as it is very coarse and moist) Sun Pari 5 Photo Himalaya It all depends on your tastes. Generally, until you get more breath control (regulating the sniffer) the coarser, moister snuffs tend to be much easier to take than the toasts, scotches or Dholakia Black/White/Sparrow type snuffs. "What are the fundamental snuffs? " There are a plethora of demi-gros nasal snuffs with many fanciful names and varied added aromas - medicated, perfumed and, more recently, scents based on foodstuffs, which seem to have a special appeal for the American market. Snuffs come and go, but those that are constants in a changing world include the following (made in the UK): Fin* Irish style snuff (dry, fine and biscuit coloured) includes Wilsons Irish High Toast No.22 or Irish D Light by Samuel Gawith. No snuff is made in Ireland any more, but the examples above are faithful. Traditionally this snuff is left unscented. Demi-gros Most snuffs fall into this category. Medium fine mill, usually golden brown and the grade most usually recommended to beginners. S.P is the most popular snuff in this class. S.P is either plain or lightly scented with Italian bergamot and lavender. Gros Coarse mill, moist, usually black or very dark resulting from fermentation in brine. The best known examples are those by Samuel Gawith and include Black Rappee and London Brown. These are all-natural snuffs with no added scents. Kendal Brown is medium gros made from a tobacco mixture and can still be purchased in its original form. It is lightly flavoured with pelargonium graveolens as per the 1792 recipe. Princes is a black snuff that was originally flavoured with attar of roses. The two snuff centres in the UK that still survive from their 18th century beginnings are Wilsons and Co of Sharrow Mill based in Sheffield and Samuel Gawith in Kendal. Their flagship snuffs are S.P and Kendal Brown, which have both been bestsellers for several centuries. Both types have been copied by other manufacturers, but S.P from Sheffield and Kendal Brown from Kendal are the genuine goods. * Fin, demi-gros and gros refer to the three main headings for snuff.
@sniffy, no-one mentioned McChrystal Original & Genuine - if you like mentholated snuffs, you really shouldn’t miss it. I strongly suggest buying an 8.75g tin, though - larger might be a bad idea if you don’t like it for some (weird) reason; smaller doesn’t make sense.
Thanks guys, I’ll compile an order with Mr Snuff, I think my nose deserves a treat Its nice to have educated people to ask for advice and know you are talking from the heart and from experience. Thanks again, Matt.
You might want to compare the ones you are interested in with the snuffreview site.
I would recommend: Hedges for a wonderful dark menthol that doesn’t rebound (at least on me) as much as O&G F&T: for old-timey British snuffs–High Dry Toast, Old Paris, Santo Domingo and Bordeaux Taxi Red: for an African-style Bernard’s: Brasil Doppelt Fermentiert for an unbelievable schmaltzer-stye snuff Toque: coke, other flavours you like Three Thistle Strong: for a good scotch snuff Honeybee: for a good American sweet Railroad Mills Maccoboy: for an easy snuffing floral that isn’t TOO floral
I’d strongly recommend Camphor and Mild by WOS. Definately an all day everyday snuff if ever there was one. It is impossible to take this back to far, I can take huge, huge pinches of this and it doesn’t hit my throat. Its also a lovely flavour of Camphor and Bergamot and possibly a little Lavender in there. Lovely stuff. My favourite mixture is Camphor and Mild mixed with Samuel Gawith Zip 50/50. Stefan
Wow, no-one mentioned the WoS Crumbs of Comfort. I’m also really new, but hook up with Dave at SnuffHouse and order a mix.
