I have a tin of Hedges open for a little over a week and the menthol is still very subtle. I had read this is one of the strongest menthols out there but don’t know how long it takes to get to its best.

Anybody bought a tin of this recently and would share your opinions? Thanks.

I have a tin that’s been open for over 3 years and had a pinch just last weekend. It’s still too much menthol for me. When it was fresh it was like jamming icicles into your head. Sounds like maybe a quality control issue to me.

S

Interesting. All the menthols that I have received fresh are weak and get much stronger as they dry out.

This one still smells of ammonia and that tells me the best is yet to come. It’s just that I would have expected it to be further along by now. Maybe I’m wrong.

Has anyone figured out the date codes? This one says MO10451 on the bottom. I wonder if that means “manufactured on Fourth (4) of October (10), 2015 (15).” or alternatively “Tin 451 made in the 10th month”

Thanks.

Maybe you got a weak batch. I would contact Hedges.

Have you tried Wilson’s Dynamite or SM 500 these are powerful with menthol?6 Photo # 666 is also a menthol bomb.

I am not a regular menthol snuffer but they have their place and serve me well when I have the need for them. The english type menthols sometimes I have a rebound congestion issues.  I like 6 Photo black snuffs for their clearing action and never have the congestion issue.

I don’t know if anybody will say who actually makes Hedges. I’m not too concerned right now because of what I wrote earlier. It seems normal, just slower than expected. It would help to know if what I’m seeing matches what anybody else who bought a tin recently has to say.

I haven’t tried Dynamite yet but I took SM 500 for years until switching over to SM Blue. I have some SM 500 on order. I don’t remember that it was stronger than SM Blue in the menthol department, just that Blue has camphor which is a nice complex mixture that made the 500 seem a little boring in comparison. But I ordered some more because I want to see how I feel about it now. As you know, tastes come and go and if you stay with something too long it often gets a little boring.

I haven’t tried any Indian snuffs aside from Dholakia. Thanks for your comments on 6 Photo. It sounds interesting but on the other hand I don’t want to get back to having drawers full of snuffs. I prefer a relatively small rotation so each gets enough attention and doesn’t go stale.

Yeah, absolutely if you overdo it on menthols you’re gonna get clogged. There is no way around that. I try to take them at specific times of the day and quit some period before I go to bed or I won’t be able to breathe! I love the feeling and wish I could take them all the time but aside from SM 500 I don’t think there was one I could do that with. I may be remembering wrong but it seems to me I used SM 500 all day long back then. I can’t get it to work with anything else.

Like @crullers I’ve had a tin for tow years, and its still really strong. I keep mine in the freezer. I don’t know if it holds the menthol better. I only use it when I have really bad scinus inflammation.

The question is on a new tin, purchased recently.

In my experience all menthols strengthen as they age and dry out. The flavoring gets weaker of course but the menthol improves. An old tin being strong is normal and expected. I’d like to know if anybody has bought a new tin of this recently and can say how long it took to get to a good level of menthol. Thanks.

S

This tin is headed in the right direction but is taking longer than expected. Still, marked improvement noticed today.

S

It took well over a month but it is now strong and fine. A very clean menthol with a eucalyptus top note. It’s either this or Jip! first thing in the morning and as a palate cleanser.

S

786 Both excellent choices imho. If I could I would swim around in a giant vat of Jip! And welcome back @Snuffbox, haven’t seen you around in a minute.

I opened a small tin of WoS Raspberry, and one pinch rendered me with my face in my hands, making rather strange and out of character noises, rather like the video that’s been posted recently of the guy trying BOHICA for the first time. Ice Liquorice didn’t hit me as hard as this one pinch of Raspberry. I’ll take menthol snuffs if heavily congested due to a cold, but otherwise I generally try to avoid menthol content as sometimes it causes me real discomfort. Peppermint snuffs on the other hand, I actually find tolerable and rather enjoyable in moderation.
