Hey everyone have some wonderful news I just purchased www.SnuffReviews.Net which I will be opening for a review web-site that everyone will be welcome at! I never had visited the original one so not sure how it was set-up but am looking for help to get it going and have it for 5 years to start. I would like it to be a valuable insite to the snuff community and hope to find a few helpers for moderation and the like. Please PM me with any questions or ideas or paste it here thanks! this is not open as of yet but I do own the domain
This is great news. I wish I knew more about web page design and building or I would love to help. Looking forward to see it up and running.
@distaind well i know nothing lol! but am about to learn cause I think this is something we REALLY need to spread the word about all things snuff
@Supervape Yeah I saw in your YouTube vid that you were going to set up a snuff review site so well done. I only got back into snuff in the past few weeks so I also never saw the original. If it is going to host a load of reviews then I presume that it will need some form of database backend but that is a bit out of my league. But if there is any simpler help needed then count me in.
*cough* ahem *cough* http://snuffbox.org/ *cough cough* :-"
never seen that before @xander I may do a blog there or something or other lol
I guess i will embed my Youtube videos and let other people submit there video reviews and direct people to your site @xander so they have text and video reviews sound good?
@supervape Its not my site. It belongs to @cakeanddottle. There are actually more snuff review sites out there, but most don’t get much traffic. Snufreviews.com did, even though it was a little rough and messy but it took a long time for it to get established, mainly by a reputation here then it had an absentee landlord and it went downhill. To me it makes more sense to focus our engergies in one place, and that one is already built and operational (though incomplete). I’d hate to see you put a lot of work into a new site out only to find this other one later. Also we have our own rudimentary review section here which I work on whenever I have a bit of time. It will never have the precise funtionality of a snuff reviews site, since its working on a forum style base. Although I think it is improving with time, and its nice to have it here for ease of reference.
@Xander I have looked at that site before but I find myself following links to various snuffs only to find that there are no actual reviews of that particular snuff. I just tried it again so one click on the front page to take me to the F&T page. Then I clicked on the first 8 snuffs one after another only to find no reviews. It was only when I got to the 9th snuff - Morocco - that I actually found a review. So that site is useful when I have plenty of time to look around - and all praise to whoever set it up in the first place - but it is very time consuming to find any reviews and very frustrating to be expecting a review and finding there is nothing there. If there was a snuff review site similar to http://www.tobaccoreviews.com which is crammed full of reviews then that would be extremely useful - particularly to a newbie like me.
The more reviews the better. Does anyone know why http://snuffbox.org/ is not getting that much traffic. I submitted a few reviews, but then it stopped working…in other words I could write a review but it would never show up.
My point exactly. It takes a long time for a site to get established to get lots of reviews in it.
My point was not so much the lack of reviews for - as @Xander has said - it takes time to build up the reviews. But if the front page could somehow separate out which snuffs have reviews and which ones are awaiting reviews then it would speed things up rather than a lot of time spent following links only to find the name of the snuff but no reviews.
@chris Ah, good point. I’m sure the admin there will appreciate the constructive criticism.
I hope it is taken as constructive criticism. I know the amount of work it takes to get a site up and running so I would never be negative about anyone’s efforts. The site itself looks clean and uncluttered which I think is great so if there were a faster navigation system then I am sure it would be a great asset to the snuff world.

afaik that was just your one review that didn’t take. I approved new reviews this morning and submitted three myself, so there doesn’t seem to be any issue. I know the Amazon style interface isn’t optimal, but right now I am not seeing anything on Joomla or Wordpress that would allow me to make a nice snuffreviews.com style site with a persistent login and better sorting features. I’m not sold on JReviews. I’m a great hacker with other people’s stuff, but I can’t make gold from lead. Someone once offered to build a custom cms for the site, and I pooh pooh’ed it thinking I wanted to stay with open source software with a large dev community. I am kind of regretting that, so if anyone with the php and mysql skillz to build a back end for this and that will work with me on the front end, feel more than welcome to PM me. In the meantime, snuffbox.org isn’t quite what I want it to be, but it’s there if nothing else. I maintain it and would love to see more contributions. In the event that we do get a better system that allows the features of snuffreviews.com with a more modern front end, I will hand input all the existing reviews so we don’t lose them.

That is one of the things I’d like as well. Unfortunately the tools I’m using don’t allow for it. This site started on Joomla, because that’s what I use. After a week of tearing my hair out over the one Joomla add on that allowed me to do a review site, I threw in the towel and looked at Wordpress. Wordpress has this one add on, that I am using. It’s basically the Amazon approach to user reviews. Optimal? No way. All I have to work with at the moment. The alternative is to use blog software (which I already am) and not mess with the interface, and basically have a vanilla wordpress site that I call a review site. There is a pipe tobacco review site like that. I look at it and think “it’s a wordpress blog you lazy idiot”. My wishlist for snuffbox.org includes: persistent login links to new reviews on front page sort by user an interface that doesn’t look like 2001 I haven’t given up on the site guys. I just need some help from someone who can build us a custom back end, or for the available add ons to catch up to the feature set I am looking for.
@cakeanddottle If you change the interface do please keep the uncluttered look. Links to new reviews on the front page would be most useful. If I could help you with the back end I would but I’ve tried my hand at that before and the stress involved in getting the simplest things to work just was not worth it - I value what is left of my sanity and my hair! I hope it works out - as I said above I think it could be a great asset for the snuff taking community. Once I get a bit more experience with snuff I will definitely try my hand at some reviews on your site. Thanks for all the hard work.
I post all my reviews on MisterSnuff ,I will have to start to keep copies and send them over.
The average rating and the number of reviews ABSOLUTELY NEED to be listed beside the name (or grouped with the name someway) of each snuff in the list, something none of these new snuff review sites seem to realise. Without those two things review sites are tedious and frustrating, without them your sites will see very little traffic and will never build a large database of reviews.
Someone posted this link on the Snuffhouse chat board and it looks like a pretty sweet snuff review site, the only thing its missing is reviews but WE can solve that! http://www.snuffcentral.com
