Hello, I come from a pipe and cigar smoking background. The store I used to work at has silver dollar snuff. I picked up a tin of vanilla. I have no reference compared to other snuffs. Is the silver dollar stuff considered a fine grind as well as a dry grind? Trying to get a point of reference. Thanks.
I have Silver Dollar Apricot, and if it’s the same grind, I’d say it’s more of a medium grind and medium moisture. Especially when I compare it to this FUBAR Willie Pete I just got, which is practically like pulverised chalk.
Ditto; the only Silver Dollar snuff I’ve tried (because the tobacconist charges a mint for them) was a medium grind and moisture, similar to Poeschl Packard’s Club in that regard.
I’d agree, but with the caveat that the moisture level is going to depend on how long it’s been hanging around for - the Silver Dollar tins are nice but not massively airtight. If you are finding it difficult to take then don’t worry - there is plenty out there that is less likely to make you cough! Take yourself over to Mr Snuff’s website and go for a few Samuel Gawith 25g tins (not the 10g tap boxes) and one of his plastic snuff boxes so you have something to put it in.
Agreed with Justin, I get mine in Nebraska with no longer than a week’s wait… and I love Samuel Gawith.
@Justin, I haven’t coughed yet while taking it. I was just wondering where it fell on the spectrums of grind and moisture content. Im guessing there is a relationship between grind and moisture level. My guess is the finer it is, the dryer it will be. Is that correct?
edit: @Psicko - That’s usually how it goes (finer snuffs are dryer). However, in my collection I have fine snuffs that have plenty of moisture, and medium ground snuffs are all over the map with moisture. I’ve yet to come across a dry coarse snuff. Perhaps there’s some relationship, but it’s never a sure thing (in my experience).
I think an implied question is what type of snuff is good for a new snuffer? I recommend slightly moist medium grinds like Viking and Toque snuffs. They are very forgiving as you are training to be a jedi-snuffer.
No, no implied question about beginner snuffs. I’m not about to jump into Fubar Bohica or any of the crazy ones either though. If I have a question, I ask it straight up.
@SeanOCDPx thanks.
