New Snuffbox

S

Hi just thought I would show folks here a few pics of my 1st metal snuffbox purchase, which was apparently owned by a gentleman who worked the coal face in the uk. It was in his family for 80 years apparently. It was made by WoS, and is made from pewter. I’ve spent a while waiting for a dual snuff box to come up, as I like to carry more than snuff on me at any one time and hope it is as good as it looks when it arrives.

Oh man, that looks awesome! Great score.

An interesting box. I can’t quite make out the circled symbol. What is it? Hopefully an expert in markings will be able to tell us more about it.

THE PEWTER SOCIETY would know. How to contact the society - Please use the following email for enquiries regarding identification of pewter items or general information about old pewter. “mailto:enquiries@pewtersociety.org

The circled symbol appears to be a dragon. Just got the box today and I’m well chuffed with it

Not the same guy then. Disclaimer: if there are photos on your first post as the comment insinuates I cannot see them, most likeley because im on the mobile version.

Maybe don’t think I get pics on my mobile either. Update to the symbol - it may be a prancing sea horse - it has a horses head and mermaid tail. The pewter society don’t hold data on pewter less than 100 years old as there are no books on it, I know it is a WoS snuffbox about 80 years old. Presumably the marks are for a particular maker that made the boxes on behalf of Wilsons.
