New snuff from old tobacco

I had some pipe tobacco in pouches and tins. Very dried up. Maybe I didn’t like it or it was forgotten. A half box of SG FVF over 10 years old. As dry as kindling. A box of 1792 Flake about 5 years old. A pouch of Amphora Full Aroma. A tin of Ashton’s Artisan Blend. All beyond smoking.

So I took each one and ground it down to a fairly fine degree, as I like it, in my two blade coffee grinder. So I had four snuffs.

All were nice but the quality SG flakes were really good. Nice nose burn, an aroma of depth and a good nicotine buzz. These snuffs were as nice as commercial products and certainly quite original and interesting.

If you have unsmokable dried up tobacco don’t throw it out. It’s worth trying as a snuff first. If you don’t like it yourself you can always give it away to the poor and needy.

The photo is of some of my homemade snuffs. Leftover pipe tobacco or dried up cigars or from leaf I’ve bought.

I just made some snuff from some proper English . That Latikia smell really sticks around and is very enjoyable.

I’m not quite in my pipe smoking journey yet to fully enjoy English blends little harsh and smokey for me. I tend to hear toward to aromatics a little more although I do enjoy Petersons Nightcap

Latakia :face_vomiting:

Yeah, if I wanted to smoke conifer, I’d just smoke some conifer. That and if I leave one window open on the side of the house latakia is being smoked on, I wake up regularly throughout the night wondering what’s on fire. I’ve been smoking a pipe for 23 years, Kentucky and Burly blends are where I like it…And don’t get me going on the futility and snobbery that’s briar wood, you’ll find me slobbing the cob. Just remember what the basic English diet was when the English blend was established. Would you trust them with palatable offerings?

Yes, Latakia makes a good snuff. Thè Ashton’s Artisan Blend I used contains Black Cavendish, Latakia, Oriental/Turkish, Perique, Virginia. Very nice.

Latakia is a favourite of mine. It’s fine that you personally don’t like it.

The infamous Captain Black Cherry pipe tobacco makes pretty decent (in terms of nicotine and flavour) snuff. Was my daily nasal staple in my teens for a whole year or so. To make the drip less harsh, I usually cut it with oven-toasted tobacco from Prima and Astra non-filtered cigarettes (Reconstituted shite and dry ice expanded crap wasn’t a thing in my country back then, thankfully).

Yes, it really is. Adds nice spiceness to a blend.
