New Snuff boxes this month.

Ok, I wasn’t supposed to be buying any more boxes, but these were all under $40 on Ebay, so I couldnt resist. I was going to engrave the brass one, and dremmel the spoon to look a little better, since its pretty rough looking. Probably wont be carrying any of these because I like my Niellio box a lot. I saw some really nice and expensive boxes sell last week.

very classy. SBADisorder?

Oh wow! They’re gorgeous, @coreymillia. I adore antique looking things. I haven’t bought anything on E-Bay in years. I wonder how hard it is to purchase as a newcomer? Do you do the bidding thing or do you simply pay the going price? I couldn’t have passed on one of these boxes for that price. The one on the chain and the round one are my favorites. Nice finds, enjoy! And thanks for the photos.

@valiant Thanks! Well, if you have paypal then its pretty easy. Otherwise… maybe not so since Ebay doesn’t really allow other forms of payment… I mean you can pay other ways, but the seller has to have a card processor of their own. I like to look at auctions, sometimes there is a good buy it now, but the people buying snuff boxes on Ebay are pretty diligent. So if its nice for a good price it usually doesn’t last long. I am amazed at all the people that buy snuff related stuff, especially the vintage unopened snuff, who the heck is snorting it all?.. Still haven’t tried that. You literally save no money. Maybe people without credit cards. The auctions are the most fun, because it’s a rush when you know there are other people trying to win something. Watching the high dollar items go up and up. Just that last few minutes, wondering… who is about to out bid me?.. A lot of times I look for stuff no one is bidding on… like all 3 of the ones pictured. I haven’t tried to win anything too fancy as they usually have a lot of bids. I did lose a couple of auctions this week, but its still part of the fun.

@coreymillia‌ what are the silver colored boxes made from? The round I would say is brass? Anyhow, they all look great and for that price on each is a great deal!

@md363 The tinyl tap box is a Hans Jensen, he has a bunch of stuff out there with the same image. It is stamped 90 so its just silver plate, its filled with Honeybee right now. The other one is stamped Italy… It kinda looks like something you would see on cheap silverware. There was a pretty heavy metallic and perfume smell to the rectangle one, so it was soaked last night… There is still a metallic and perfume smell… I can’t fill it until it no longer smells. It was listed as silver plate too… The large one is brass, it weighs a half a lb. and the lid doesn’t stay shut if you grab it by the chain, its a little impractical. And stinks like brass… Really nothing beats silver for moist or wood for dry snuff. Pewter seems nice too after using one all month.

Once there is no metallic or perfume smell they will be great. Plated silver is cool.

@correymillia, Thanks for the info regarding E-Bay. I do have a Pay Pal account. You’ve convinced me to give it a whirl! Bidding sounds like fun and I do love unique items. Great! We may end up bidding against each other. :stuck_out_tongue: Do you ever sell items on there? Christmas gifts may all come from E-Bay this year.

@valiant Cool, hope you find something nice. You may even find something a distant relative used, a lot of times people do not know what they are selling. You can do independent research based on the markings that they describe. You may like Etsy.com too, lots of vintage stuff and most sellers accept paypal. I do not, I did just sell my entire collection of POS ecigs on ebay a few weeks ago. It was pretty annoying, Ill just stick with my job for now, lol. I finally got paid and purchased some sweet crystal singing bowls and a few small metal ones. I AM going to buy all my friends a singing bowl for christmas. They are very relaxing.
