Not the actual one but Got two like this, some variances in wood and the actual chinese character on it for $10.95 each at this little arts wood shop type place on the waterfront in Wilmington, NC. Works well thus far. Having Navy Sweet in there which is very fine I get a little leak out from the back of the slide when opening and closing, nothing terrible though, and no pocket leak. Ken
Devilock, was this place on Market St.? The Budda something? I vacation in Wilmington, it’s a nice place.
About a block over, part of a whole set of like indoor flea market shops. They had very nice wooden chess sets as well. Ken
Ah, so it must be the City Market? I think I know what shop you are talking about now. I stay in the Inn right next door do it.
Yeah that sounds about right. The inside kind of slopes up away from the front, this place is about half way up to the left as you walk in. Ken
Reminds me of Mahjong. Is that the green dragon?
I have enough snuffs almost to make the board, if only I had enough snuff boxes for it. Although that many full might defeat the purpose of the box. Ken
Is there an engraved heart on the back of the box?
There is, heartwood brand. Ken
Is there an engraving on the inside of the box?
Yes there is, of the English translation of the Kanji character, well the supposed translation. Ken
What is that translation? Do tell, is it “Joy”?
chinese character =/= kanji kanji is japanese
Right you are, Mr. Pike. Hànzi =/= Kanji. But the meaning carries over, more often than not. Also, one rarely sees any kana on such objects anyhow, so the question is academic, at best. Edit: My rudimentary japanese didn’t help me find the letter, which leads me to one of two conclusions: Either it’s an archaic letter, or a made up one. My knowledge of the components tells me it reads as “Dotted Death under a Roof”, or “Two-dots Eight Crowned Death”. Neither sounds too healthy to me. Edit edit: Well, guess my rudimentary japanese totally failed me. It reads with the letters for “Crown” and “Friend”. With extra bits. But my original guestimates were funnier, so they stay
The one pictured is not the one I got, I think they labeled the one pictured as love who knows. Oh and they are supposed to be Chinese inscriptions. Ken
yes, the pictured one is the character for love
So what? What is it some kind of secret or is it none of my business? By the way I love that size of the Heartwood Creations box. I think I have at least four in that size. My favorite is the rosewood with a palm (hand) lasered on.
What what mine says? No I don’t think it is a secret I was just being clear as to what I was referring to. The one on mine supposedly says forgiveness, and that is what is inscription inside says. These boxes are perfect size for sure. Although the lid mechanism causes some back leak it seems on the opposite from the side you are opening. Ken
Ken: Tap the lid of the box with your finger before you open it. If I understand what you are saying it will solve the problem.
That helps, still some can leak though but for the most part that works. Ken
