I don’t know if these are the new ones or just another brand as the lid has an embossed logo which looks like a classical age soldier in profile with the word ‘rococo’ on it , but I got one today (and a pound of FUBAR grunt to use it with) and it is absolutely superb. The dimensions are perfect, as I hope you can see, and it is much slimmer and pocket friendly than the larger black plastic ones that come with the ‘Bernards’ sticker on them. There is a slide/doser on the side for the back of the hand snuffers as well. This cost me under £5 and given that the seal is perfect and does not allow a single grain of snuff out it is actually better at doing it’s job than most of my expensive silver boxes. This will be my day to day snuff box from now on. There is just something very reassuring about value for money like this in today’s world.

Looks nice!  I like the slim profile, less bulky.

F

Looks great!!

J

It’s one of the current ones, not one of the new ones, but they are definitely excellent boxes. (Mine is currently full of Sternecker Fresko…)

G

Where did you find it ? i looked on the site but couldnt locate it. Could you post a link ? Thanks !

C

It’s under accessories and then plastic snuff boxes.

Anyone know who makes them? I’m intrigued by the ‘rococo’ logo.

C

Rococo is a style of Baroque art, might refer to snuff being archaic.

A

Looks more of a trade mark really.

G

Is it that one https://mrsnuff.com/store/mrsnuff-black-plastic-snuff-p-1586.html?osCsid=3759d70335268e15ba33a5863f4687bc

Yes.

Although I love my wooden snuff boxes, I am coming round to the idea that plastic boxes might be more fit for purpose. Still not 100% convinced though.

The reason I like these black plastic boxes so much is that they are very like the black papier mache boxes from the 18th to mid 20th centuries. These were cheap and simple in design and many of the ‘cognoscenti’ preferred them to expensive boxes because they kept the snuff in such good condition. To my mind the modern boxes are almost a development of that - not through any design or intention but still part of the tradition. In one of my old snuff books (McCausland) an old timer from the early 19th century is quoted as saying ‘a silver box and I parted company many years ago, my standard boxes are papier mache, plain black’ (quoted from memory) - I love that.

In terms of being fit for purpose - well, I have a fair collection of snuff boxes, some of them worth a great deal and the only one that can stand up to one of these plastic ones is a valuable Georgian one which would have been handmade by a silversmith specialising in snuff boxes. Some are pretty damn good, like my Ari.D.Norman modern silver box, but it doesn’t keep the snuff any better than this £4 one. I’ve been using it for two days now - not a grain leaked out and filled in the morning, the last of the snuff in the evening is just as fresh as when it went in.

Reading this back,I think I have become obsessed with it:)

I have been carrying mine exclusively for many weeks now. Sometimes in my shirt pocket, sometimes in a pants pocket.  The raised logo has chipped off in a couple of places, the lid lift lip shows signs of stress, but other than that it looks and works as it did the first day. I get a bit of powder build up in the back hinge area, not spillage, just a bit of dust. I do have binding issues with the hinge  with very fine or very moist snuffs, but hose issues are easily overcome by making sure the snuff is away from the hinge when closing it. I have had 6 Photo Natural in it for 3 days with very little loss of quality. Much better than any of my wood boxes, even if plastic doesn’t have the class of wood. I’d love to try a paper mache box.

Will we be seeing the new plastic box anytime soon ? I can’t wait to see one with the look of chrome !

V

I remember learning about Rococo art in my AP European History class… i need to go to some art galleries soon

K

Has anyone seen the new box yet ?

K

@Mr.snuff Will you be making one with the look of chrome ?

V

@Snuffster @cstokes4 I just noticed that the stainless steel snuff spoon says Rococo on it too, so it is probably just their company name with no other reason.

K

@mrsnuff:  Thank you again David !      Kurt:

C

@mr.snuff:

Any idea where the boxes and spoons are made?

L

@Mr.snuff Will you be making one with the look of chrome ?

Good idea. It would be smart.

K

@MrSnuff I’m still waiting for the prototypes I paid metal art students for months ago. Looking into 3D printing,And a new spray chrome coating.

T

I’d sure be interested in a chrome-looking box!

D

Me too! Definitely!

M

Count me in on a chrome box

B

I want 5, smoked chrome would be awesome too

_

I’ll do a few chrome. I’d even go for a shiny brassy one or 3.

P

Just FYI- my Poshl(sp) Presidents tap box was nice, shinny chrome when i first got it. After a short while in the pocket, its now a scuffed, dull silver.

M

What about black? You don’t have one in black yet, right? Just a thought- black goes with everything. I do like my green one…

K

I’m thinking a 3/4 scale version of the Bernard Snuff dispenser with a flat bottom, About 3/8" shorter than the Mr Snuff box.Copper,Brass and Chrome.

Chrome would be great. There’s a process called Vacuum Deposition that’s used on a lot of chromed plastic parts. Very thin and durable, it’s what’s most likely used on your auto headlamp reflectors.
