Looks like 6P has a few new ones on Mr. Snuff: Gold Rush, Indian Curry and Chocolicious. Has anyone taken the plunge yet?
Seen these the other day ,I am a huge fan of 6 photo snuffs .They sound delightful. Current monetary situation avails me none.
I arrived on this board looking for some reviews before I bought too, but seeing as I feel the need to place an order, I think Iām just gonna do it!
Okay I bit the bullet and hit the Confirm Order button at Mr Snuff about 2 mins ago. 1 each of Gold Rush, Indian Curry & Chocolicious, plus a Taxi Blue, a Taxi Red & a Babaton Plain just to round off the madnessā¦
Should say Iāve never tried the South African ones before! I hear theyāre quite savageā¦
Great! Pls report back with your findingsā¦
Okay they all arrived today. Iām like a kid with the keys to the sweet shop, itās been that long since I ordered snuff I wasnāt already familiar with! But seeing as Iām quite busy, Iāve just decided to start by giving the Chocolicious a go and then sort the rest out. So, itās a rich medium brown colour, the grind is quite average but it has a tendency to clump. Fresh tin so ammoniaās in the mix in the scent. First I get a really cool menthol and a nice nic lift, which then gives way to the chocolate aroma. Difficult to explain the chocolate - itās like drinking chocolate combined with the scent/taste of chocolate coins, and the menthol makes it quite a cool scent when Iād expected it to be āwarmerā. Itās a lovely scent though, and very relaxing and smooth. Also long-lasting - I had like a āsecond windā of it an hour after my first pinch, and walking around really gets it going with airflow through the nose. I like this one - like any Indian snuff I donāt see it as an all-dayer, but for a sit-down-and-relax-in-the-evening kind of snuff it will be ideal, IMHO.
Just had a go at the Gold Rush. Bearing in mind that Iām five pints of beer to the good, I donāt know how accurate this is! Big big aroma and scent of orange as soon as you open the tin - same colour and grind as Choc but less āclumpyā. Any menthol in it is at the back of the pinch, rather than straight off like the Choc. Really good wake-up snuff - fresh scent, very good nic hit. By the way, I had a couple of big hits of the Choc before I went out and three hours later the scent was still there. Really long-lasting, but settles into a rather artificial scent that reminds one of chocolate rather than representing it. That sounds critical but just being honest - thereās nothing unpleasant about it at all, and it was great being hit by the smell all the time when least expecting it.
Sounds like the Chocolicious and Gold Rush would be a good mix together. Iām really interested in what the Indian Curry brings to the table. Wonder if they are going the route of the De Kralingse spices series, possibly with a bit more kick since it probably has actual tobacco in it. Of course, Iām partial to the other 6 Photo scents⦠Actually, most of the Indian snuffs now that I think about it.

Wait, wait, wait. Do you snuff those spices? To each their own, of course.

No, although the Dutch Cookie definitely smells good enough.
Struggling to describe Indian Curry. Contents of my tin are very fresh and so the barnyard aroma keeps getting in the way - could be seen as the true smell of rural India I guessā¦the snuffās lighter in colour than Choc or Gold Rush, and taking it using plugging is probably best as otherwise it does have a habit of dropping out my nose. When not being treated to the smell of the droppings of the sacred cows, it seems like a āmintyā version of Super Kailash, but less heavy with the scent. Must be honest - I really like it!
Just done another two big pinches - this is the best of the three for meā¦
Thanks, but I think Iāll stick with _ Kailash _ and _ Special. _ Iām a firm believer in āIf it aināt broke, donāt fix it!ā I also purchase _ 666 _, but thatās for my Spiritual Father at the monastery. Go figureā¦
I was hoping there was no menthol in these new ones. I might just wait to try them now. Thanks for the reviews
I havenāt tried the 6 photo curry, but Doolali Tap, from Fubar ( Dholakia ) is a curry bomb if ever there was. I got a 50 gm tub of it, by chance, in a Mr.S grab bag, 200 gms of various snuffs for $12 or thereabouts. Its taken me a long while( itās October now) to actually like it, but I do. In fact, as I am typing this entry, I have a couple big pinches developing quite a sensation. The throat drip is very pleasant, the heat is high, but no unpleasantly so, and it sure as hell is waking me up with a huge dose of N. I know this impromptu review is not about the 6 Photo product, but Iād wager they are pretty similar. My advice is, try it. You may like it if you like curry. But if you donāt like curry, or Indian spices in general, steer clear of this one. Itās quite distinctive, and not for the faint of heart.
I ve noticed there isnāt much content on the forum about sixphotos more āWestern styleā newer flavours so I thought I d do a bit . I hope I m ok bumping one of the late chefdaniels threads ?
.Ā
I recently tried a tin of Gold Rush and Chocolicous . They come in a 30g vacuum seal tin . The tins keep the snuff very fresh but I have noticed the lids arenāt always on straight . My tin of Choco was well on the slant . I was sure it would be stale but it was fresh as anything :)Ā
The tins themselves arenāt suitable for daily use , I had such a number reopening them , I decanted on the second pinch .Ā
Chocolicious was a bit of an impulse buy to be honest , but itās found itās way into my daily rotation . Vostok really nails the scent in my opinion in his 2015 post . It isnāt a ārichā chocolate but there is plenty of it . I find it Ā a powerful and enduring scent .Ā
Gold Rush is quite possibly the wildest scent I have yet encountered . I get the scent of a truckful of overripe Pakistani mangos when I open a tin , a reviewer called it an āartificialā scent but I get a whole fruit vibe out of it , flesh, pith, stones and all Ā .Ā
In the nose I get mostly mango , some orange , occasionally a rogue scent of pineapple , but no lime . Thereās a decent amount of āmedicationā but itās buried in the fruit . It gives me quite a euphoric feeling . I respond well to the base tobaccos used in it ā¦but I m definitely not familiar with them .I d guess at a fairly potent alkalizer in there as well , but it might just be down to stronger leaf ?
Now the scent on this is powerful to my nose , I can still detect it next day .Ā
This characteristic is a total boon to me . I had a few sinus operations and I ve never really had much of a sense of smell . I ve taken a lot of nonmenthol snuffs , where I get a very vague indication of scent ā¦nowānāagain . For the most part , this has had me buying a lot of strongly flavoured Poschls etc , which works out expensive real quick .
I ve found myself snuffing quite a bit of Chocolicious throughout the day . I m using the Gold Rush in 2 ways . I ll snuff it neat for a mango explosion , but I ve used it quite a bit as a mixer with less favoured snuffs .
I ve got a few Toques/Toque USAs that I want to finish off before ordering some ToqueUSA bulk . These have mixed in lovely with the Gold Rush .Ā
All in all , I enjoy them both very much . So much so I bought 150G of each to be getting on with . A month or so down the road I might lay in some proper weight pre-TPD . I fear for these snuffs still being available in the EU market .Ā
Ā
Now for what you just described, I might try my nose with these new Indian offerings. I have had a negative attitude about many of the Indian snuffs of the past but always have a attitude that I will not just not like them if I try them once. I am the kind of person that will always give things a second chance or even a third. Theses two sound excellent and thanks for a good overview of them.
Thanks @nicmizer . You should probably be wary of my future reviews because I can write much better than I can smell Ā
I ve found myself strongly drawn to the more modern brands and trivial flavours . These two feel a bit more grownup : serious snuff in a playful style .Ā
I d love to know a bit about the base tobaccos used in the range please @sixphoto . I read somewhere on here that is was a similar base to your 6photo Natural ? Whatever it is , my nose likes it
@Pikey thanks for the lovely reviews on the new sixphotosnuffs . I appreciate. Yes the base flour is similar to what we use for our natural snuff but we do tweak it a bit for the floral/ fruity varieties
