So as many of you know I emailed WoS informing them of our communities interest in reviving some of Fribourg & Treyer’s now defunct snuffs. I received an email today from the Mill Manager of Sharrow Mills with some great news. Sharrow Mills is looking into “bringing some or all of the F+T’s back”! The message went on to ask what my thoughts or comments were regarding this and I would imagine the more comments I had from you wonderful snuffhouse members the bettter. So start posting your suggestions, comments or questions in this thread so I can email Sharrow Mills asap.
It would be wonderful if they made the effort to duplicate the old F&T blends as closely as possible in modern times. It would be a travesty if they just made some new blends and assigned old F&T names to them
How do we find out what those old blends were?
What are the old F&T’s?
Some of old ones I have tried are listed on my site.My preference would be for Masulipatam and Dieppe.
+1 for Masulipatam. I’ve heard it was wonderful.
i think a nice giftbox type thing with 3 or whatever number of new snuffs there gonna make would be a good idea . maybe a small booklet with the history of f&t snuffs included photos etc a limited edition of a few hundred …
I would like to see a F&T plain or SP so I’m going with Masulipatam and Dieppe
It would be wonderful to have all of them available as Friebourg & Treyer is about quality and luxury who would’nt like more of those two things. However many they reintroduce thats how many i will buy.
Wow it’s great to get all of your responses so quickly, I’ll hold off till tonight to email Wilsons back that way this discussion can get as many suggestions and comments as possible.
There is something special about snuffing a snuff that has the aroma’s of 200+ years ago, kind of like nasal time travel. So long as they leave the smell of open sewers out of it it all sounds good to me!
I’d be interested to know if they were going to use the original (or as close as possible) tobacco blends - Latakia, Cuban etc. and original (or as close as possible) natural ingredients. I’d be interested in The Mitcham Mint - there are no menthol F&Ts on the market - and the plains.List of old blends here on top25snuff
Yes, F&T snuffs, and the tins, are so good and, of course, it’s very “grand”. Fit for a king (and a queen) and now we can also enjoy it. I’m pretty sure WoS won’t regret bringing back the total range. Thank you so much giaach for all your trouble, hope WoS will give you a year’s supply of snuff.
Jeesh, I wonder if they still have the recipe to Violet Strausburg. Some very interesting snuffs on there, sadly I don’t think we will ever see most of them again.
Ah well Chris, you can at least get some KarooStof from South Africa. They have a new flavour called Pergamon Cigar snuff which is quite nice.
@Pieter Claassen “hope WoS will give you a year’s supply of snuff” God that would awesome but at the rate I’m using the stuff that would be about two 50gram tins haha
Here is my reply to Sharrow Mills, figured I’d share it with you guys and gals. Dave, Firstly, thank you for responding to my message so quickly, it really is wonderful what the internet has done to communication. And as they say, “Now on to business!” I have passed on the news of Sharrow Mills interest in producing more F&T snuffs to the online snuff community and I must say, it has been heard by many excited and vocal individuals. While no one, including myself, can settle on one or two snuffs in particular that we would like to see again, many members have voiced these comments and suggestions; I shall list them as follows. - A resounding number of people young and old to the snuff community have expressed their interest in creating these “new” blends as closely to the old recipes as possible; whether that be the tobacco blends, perfumes, grinds, colours etc. Now we understand that in some cases this is not possible either because the ingredients are far too costly in todays market or the fact that they are simply un-attainable. The main concern was that it would be a travesty if new blends were assigned to old F&T names. Many see Wilson’s of Sharrow and Fribourg & Treyer snuffs as micro time capsules and half the enjoyment involved in these snuffs is in the historic and nostalgic qualities or their tastes, and smells. - Secondly, of the snuffs mentioned by members many cited Masulipatam and Dieppe as two they would be interested in seeing revived. Also, the ever-mentioned Asthoroth made famous by the late Dr James Roberston Justice holds its place in the lore of F&T’s line and it too would be welcomed back. Mitcham Mint was also mentioned as the current F&T line does not contain a medicated snuff. Before I finish up this reply it must be said that I and the Snuffhouse community are truly excited and thankful that Sharrow Mills shares our interest in F&T. I look forward to hearing more about this endeavor as it unfolds and you can rest assure that whatever snuffs are produced as a result will be welcomed wholeheartedly by our community. Kindest Regards, William
You are a excellent writer, Giaach.
This is really good news. I have no suggestions, nor anything of interest to add. I just had to say that I’m chuffed WoS replied and that this idea has a fair chance of being perused.
A very well written letter. Well done!
