Need advice on next order

Hey guys been a while but I still sneak in here from time to time. I’ve been using mostly snuff lately since being diagnosed with hypertension. Well been enjoying my staples I have but really been meaning to reorder some more snuffs on the moister side. I’m going to pick up some Mull of Oa because I’ve read great reviews on it and I love my Auld Alliance. However I realized I’ve never tried De Kralingse snuff. I think the main reason is it’s hard to determine what these may smell like from the descriptions. Even the reviews seem somewhat confusing. I enjoy the tobacco heavy/rum, whiskey and so on scents. My biggest avoidance in scents are perfumes and florals or heavy fruit scents. Do any of their snuffs fit the traditional tobacco profile?

Hypertension? Christ mate, that sucks a big one… Hope the best for you, though I’d probably just quit tobacco if I were you.

Disagree. I had shockingly high blood pressure, I’ve got it under control now and I snuff my way through five grams a day of White Elephant in a day. Good for you. It’s carbon monoxide that’s the worry.

fair play mate as you speak from experience.

Ah, regarding recommendations, Viking Dark might suit you. Not scented, but you could always splash some whisky on it and let the alcohol evaporate

Yeah I think my hypertension is more stress/anxiety related. I’m not even 30 yet lol. It’s under control through meds but I use to chain Snus constantly so I knew I def needed to cut that out. With snuff I feel like it’s a treat more than an addiction.

not yet 30? what you doing for work, mate? hardly a laughing matter.

I suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and work in a restaurant which is a very stressful job too. So those two together aren’t a great combination. I graduated college in December last year but just haven’t changed jobs yet because my wife is going back this year so we may end up moving.

Change jobs mate. You don’t suffer a “disorder,” you are suffering a particular job.

Restaurant work is more stressful than most folks can appreciate unless they’ve been there and done that. De Kralingse Holandse Bolongaro and Mettaijer are good and pretty plain; the latter has a note of vinegar that is refreshing. The SG Crest series are my current favorite plain snuffs in an SP mill/moisture and Scotch Black, London Brown and Black Rappee fill the bill for coarse, moist snuffs. Viking Blonde, Brown and Dark are made by SG and are unscented wonderful snuffs. These are all unscented but can easily be boosted with spirits by soaking a Qtip or unused cigarette filter in your favorite tipple and put it in your snuff box…some spirit snuffs use artificial flavors/scents and are somewhat nasty. Toque uses only natural scents in their wonderful snuff, but they tend to be a bit on the dry/fine side…not toasts but can be difficult for some.

@chefdaniel‌ I worked as a chef for 20 odd years, I know where you are coming from … crappy hours and often under appreciated… Love the job not the rest of what come with it… its odd, the better you become the less cooking you actually do! Have to say I gave up went back to IT, Linux and Unix admin now Much less stressful 9 to 5. I even enjoy eating again! I enjoy toques was wondering if they where in fact toasts (sorry new to snuff) I like the Qtip in your favourite tipple tip

@Derek_007‌ Glad to hear you came to your senses and got a civilized job. I wasn’t so smart and kept on, though I did spend the last 15 years as a corporate executive chef; still stress filled, but not as bad as restaurant work. I still have kitchen nightmares  Now I’m disabled with a bad, nasty case of spinal arthritis that has an impact on my whole body; central nervous system and all that. I think Roderick uses wonderful base tobaccos, and his toasts are all top notch. The others share a lot in common with toasts, being pretty fine and a little dry. I don’t detect the toasty notes in the others, but they may well have spent some time in the oven. The other thing I noticed is they appear to be 100% leaf and have no stems or central veins/ribs. Most toasts and Scotches have a high percentage of that part of the tobacco plant. Loaded with vitamin n and pretty nice aromas when toasted and milled very fine. Takes some practice, but once you’ve got your technique tuned up, the world of snuff really opens up to some awesome vistas of pure and scented toasts. Toque Natural Toast, Toast & Marmalade, Natural Toast, Whisky & Honey (esp the USA version) and Lime Toast are all exceptional renditions. I always have one or three within arms reach, lest I get the itch and the scratch is too far away. Cheers
