NATURAL chewing tobacco brands - anyone knows them ?

Anyone of our friends from the US ever saw them ? Look so damn tasty.

I’ve had the Jim Scrap, ordered from Finck’s Cigars several years ago. I’m not sure they can sell them mail-order anymore, but it might be worth the research. The cut is inconsistent, you may want to have some scissors on hand when and where you dig in. The taste I guess I’d say is more or less like a shade grown cigar wrapper leaf. It does seem to have absolutely no flavorings or sweeteners as claimed. They also have just enough moisture, so you’re not paying for water or glycerine weight, and quite a bit gets packed into those modest sized bags. I’d say that if you do know that you like to chew, it’s a good thing to try.

Damn. After your post i want to try them even more.

The picture i did use came from the side you mentoined. http://www.finckcigarcompany.com/products/group/category/unflavored_chewing_tobacco

…and of course, they cannot sell it via mail anymore. :-/

Shoot! I wonder where it can be obtained now? Maybe a shop in your area would/could special order it for you. When I got it from Finck’s I had to buy a bag of…I dunno…12 or 15 of those small bags- just so you know…

Sorry for tempting you (sympathetic face)…would you let me know if you find a source?

I will look into it for sure. But i guess the only way for me to get this, is to ask some buddy in the states to have a look. To like to chew and live in Europe sucks.

I prefer the fine cut canned snuff over the big bag chew. I also like the flavorings they put into Copenhagen. Plain old chopped leaves wouldn’t cut it flavor wise for me, Loose leaf needs that molasses flavoring in my humble opinion.

@jimmyb i am with you on that opinion but it just looks “yummy” !!!

Of course the plain stuff opens the door to self-flavored chew. Molasses, rum, whiskey, vanilla extract…

i want to try to cultivate my own tobacco and harvest my own natural tobacco. i am looking forward to it. i am still at the find the knowledge stage. looking forward to it. got a few recipes for doing home made chew so far.

Well… not those brands… but Havannah Blossom is unflavored. I can’t say that it was tasty though.

I saw this one, the Havannah Blossom in a few shops. In the past, there were way more unflavored ones. Sad enought, this brands are dead now.

Way more unflavored? Wow… I need the puke smiley to reply to that since my words would fail me… I saw this one, the Havannah Blossom in a few shops. In the past, there were way more unflavored ones. Sad enought, this brands are dead now.

Not a native and only crappy english speaker. Sorry for that. ^^

Actually, all the “pouch” chewing tobaccos are made of what is known in the trade as scrap leaf. This trend was started by a brand called Mail Pouch in the nineteenth century. What happened was that a cigar manufacturer had all these tobacco scraps and didn’t know what to do with them. So, he put just a bit of sweetening in it, sold it, and it became a big hit in the US. Prior to that time, plug chewing tobacco (literally a tobacco bar) was the rule. All of these pouch tobaccos are very sweet, with the exception of Mail Pouch, which is semi-sweetened. The reason being is that chewing straight tobacco is very bitter, and is definitely an acquired taste. I can say to anybody who wants straight tobacco with minimal processing should seek out what are called tobacco twists. Many brands of twists are also flavored, but they can be purchased unsweetened as well. Tobacco twists are just that: tobacco leaves twisted together, usually by hand, and then hung up in a drying barn. As a kid, I lived in Appalachia, where twists were very popular. I’ve rarely seen them outside of Appalachia, but a good tobacconist who wants business should be able to order them.

Cannot speak for any of the above but in a visit to my local grocer this evening I counted no less than 31 different flavors/brands of chewing tobacco and snus… 31. and not one single snuff. Now where is the fairness in that???

You have any clue, why is it so popular in this specific region ? I had King B and Cotton Ball twists in the past. Were interesting stuff but i would like to try em again, since back then i was starting out with chew and i think my taste buds could not understand them well at this point in time.

@Prismaster I suppose I do live in chew heaven…but I would rather snuff. Not only can the chew be found at the grocers, but there is a large variety to be found at virtually every gas station, drug store and convenience store.

I would really like to have that kind of variety around the corner. I have to order everything from the states or get people to help me, so i can avoid border tax control. For snuff, in Germany its easy. You get a few at shops but more important, we got some shops. The one i order exclusivly from is excellent and has so much diffrent snuff. It takes 2 days to get it via post. So, that is rather easy.
