So what do you people do, as snuffers, to keep your nasal passages relatively clear and freely functioning and clear from day to day? I recently bought a basic nasal passage rinsing component, and so I do a nasal rinse about once every other day with this saline rinse. Although, even though I do this I still occasionally get one of my nasal passages that get’s partially inoperable so as to make snuffing in that nostril particularly challenging as I don’t have the ‘draw power’ of snuffing in that one until it opens up a bit after a while. Consequently, I’m a one-nostril snuffer until the other opens again. Is there something other that I could do besides the nasal rinsing route that could facilitate the consistent dual nostril functionality of my nose? It’s a little frustrating getting 1/2 the nic each time because I can’t use both nostrils and I don’t want to double-time tax the other nostril. Tips, experiential suggestions?

Before bed I simply inhale standard tap water from my hand into my nose. I’ve done a lot of swimming and can control the nose quite well without fear of drowning. I then just blow the whole lot out. Two or three times and then blow as usual with paper. This is partly because I found that strong snuff still in my nose can keep me awake and partly because I have one clear nostril and one that’s usually blocked, as in your experience. I think most snuff takers have a disparity of some sort. My other advice would be to use the pinch method for the semi-blocked one, inserting the fingers well into the nose. Don’t drown yourself!

Thanks. I’ll try that before-bed rinse. That should help I think. I have not been in that particular habit and that sounds like that could really have a helpful effect. I usually blow out pretty good before bed, but that hasn’t been enough, apparently. Maybe there’s a little bit sitting in the nasal cavity all night long and I could see how that might irritate and thereby cause inflammation and blocking, since all night long there will be no action on the part of clearing the sinus as you do multitudinous times during the day. Thanks for sharing your experience.

However well you blow there’s a tremendous amount of what can only be descibed as shit coming out with water. With practice you can get the water off the hand and right up to the sinuses without fear of inhaling. You’ll get plenty of advice here about neti pots and saline, but this is all I do and it keeps me clear. Happy sniffing.

I generally give a few strong blasts while in the shower at night. This gets most of the day’s residue out. I usually have a few more pinches before bed. I rinse my nose with a neti pot right after brushing my teeth before bed. This opens up and cleans the back part of the nose. After that I run the faucet and use a q-tip to swab out the tip and lower part of the nose, rinsing the q-tip after each wipe. Each end of the q-tip is for one nostril. Then everything is nice and clean as I bed down. I have in the past gone to bed with snuff in my nose, but I find it ends up giving me a sore throat in the morning.

S

I’ve had the morning sore throat thing happen before. Not in a while though. My 'technique must be getting better.

I pick excess snuff boogers. No rinsing. Seems to season the nose well. In fact when I’ve flushed my nose I find I’am more likely to get sneezy and congested afterwards then if I just let my body clean it’s self like it was designed to do.

B

When one of my sinuses are clogged I take a good hard snort of some D. White or White Elephant. Anything extremely dry and fine, and the clog is gone for at least an hour.

O&G in the morning when whaking up and at night before bed. That’s all it needs for me.

As most on here know, I swear by “Neti-Pot”. Use it every day and never have any problems and that’s from a man who has broken his nose 3 times.

S

Yeah, I’m now using a nasal saline rinsing system once a day, at night (or whenever needed). It’s a similar system to the Neti Pot, same end result. Seems to be doing the trick.

The steam in the shower loosens things up a lot for me. If I’m feeling really “clogged” with snuff, I’ll do a saltwater rinse of my nose, but that’s rare for me these days. I do use the wet cotton swab method, though. Much better than picking–you don’t have to clean your fingernails after, either!!!

I just go “mining” with my pinky nail at night or at shower time. No problems.

I like the squeeze bottle version, before bed. I make my own solution with salt and S.Bicarb. I used to get all hung up about the ratio and boiling but now I just use tap water and eyeball the powders. Sometimes Ill do a mid day rinse since I noticed the post-rinse snuffs pack more of a punch. @texpinch - FIRST ill do a good ‘mining’ however. Makes me feel productive!
