Narural tobacco flavor snuffs

Hi, What’s your picks for a natural tobacco flavor snuff? I have more, but I wanted to mention 3 made by Dholakia. QWS Smoker’s Blend Rockit Naked Fubar Grunt All 3 of these are excellent, and all different. The most “natural” of them is the QWS Smokers Blend. The Naked is great, has a deep flavor, I get a hint of moca. Grunt is great as well, and has a noticable hint of coconut. Though I have read it said these are all natural, but to me, those hints do seem there. Anyway, all 3 are excellent.

Samuel Gawith McCombie and Black Rappee. Both smell of leathery, earthy tobacco. Hints of nothing else. No toasting either.

I love Toque Natural and Quit which is “straight tobacco” snuffs for me. F&T HDT is another one which I use daily. What about all the US scothes? Levi Garrett is a “clean” snuff as far as I know. And WE Garrett?? Please help me if I’m wrong.

Are we talking about straight unadulterated tobacco snuffs or toasted unadulterated tobacco snuffs?

Samuel Gawith Blue Crest, Red Crest Yellow Crest, Irish D Original, Black Rappee, London Brown, Scotch Black, McCombie. Bernard Gekachelte Virginie, Pariser Nr 2, Feinster Kownoer, Feiner Offenbacher Cardinal, Alt Offenbacher Köstlich, Civette Extrafein. De Kralingse Latakia AO 1860. Dholakia Chakali (Sparrow green label). Frederick Tranter Princes, Beau Nash, Brunswick. Gawith Hoggarth Plain. Toque Natural and Quit. All US plain and strong Scotches. All natural tobacco and all great. The differences lie in the different tobaccos and the different fermentation processes. You could add the plainer Schmalzlers and the rest of the High Dry Toasts to the list as well as, at a pinch (!) the plain Kendal Browns. Who needs others flavours?

QWS Smoker’s blend is good. Toque Quit & Natural are also both good. FUBAR Grunt has a flavor, despite it being plain. J&H Wilson SP No 1 seems pretty plain to me, despite it being SP. Their Top Mill No. 1 is also somewhat plain. Also try De Kralingse Hollandse Bolongaro. Very nice and pretty plain. I’m sure there are others, many which are not leaping to mind at the moment, some with the simplest of undertones.

@ ermtony: I’m just getting into Samuel Gawith’s. I have recently gotten Blue Crest and Yellow Crest. They both have a similar flavor, but I’d wouldn’t say they are plain. They seem to have a certain sweetness and some scent of some kind, though I can’t place it. The scent is similar, though stronger, than the J&H Wilson Top Mill I just mentioned. Also I have been exploring the Kendal Browns. F&T seems to have a Kendal Brown that is just as floral as the rest of their line. What is that all about? Did I get a mislabled tin? Curious that you have Frederick Tranter Princes as a Plain. I have not had the pleasure of sampling anything from this company yet, but the Fribourg & Treyer Princes is anything but plain. Its very floral. Another Plain I should add is one that I recently found and loved is the Mullins & Westley Particular.

F&T Kendal brown is a perfumed one . Gawith Hoggarth KB is plain and strong tobacco for me .

I pick Taxi Blue!

Thank you, Snuffhouse. Not for seeing this thread, I forgot I have some Dholakia Sparrow. That’s WIMN-What’s in my nose

@ Xander - The SG Crests come as either plain or scented as does their KB. Perhaps you have the scented versions? I know the ones I have are plain. Nothing but tobacco (different ones) in them. The F&T and Wilson’s KBs are definitely scented. The SG plain KBs (KB, KB Original and KB Special) have a very light citrus touch and that’s all. It’s the same with the Princes. F&T’s is scented whereas the Tranter’s is but barely. The Wilson’s one seems to fall in between the two. (I know they’re all made by Wilson’s). I should add that F&T Santo Domingo is pretty plain. Good point re J&H Wilson’s Top Mill No 1. I think that would class as plain. I have yet to try the Mullins & Westley Particular. Another one for my list! I forgot about Taxi Blue…

FEINSTER KOWNOER… This stuff has a burn to it. My first hint of scent was disgusting. I felt as if my mind was searching to place the scent but simply tossed it in the junk box as if there was no where else to put it. A very good nic hit ensued. A while later, whilst picking at my nose, tobacco, glorious tobacco! Reminded me of Taxi. I thought to myself, that’s somewhat of an indirect way of getting the scent I love so much. This snuff absolutely warrants further attempts. Go ahead and put this one on the natural tobbaco snuff list.

Thanks, ermtony. You are the expert in English style snuffs. I know we had this discussion a few days ago about the “Crests”. I have no idea if mine are scented or plain, as the labels tell me neither. I will say that the scent of both is similar. The yellow has more of a “yellow” color and finer ground, blue is darker and courser. Is red darkest and coursest? If you have the J&H Wilson Top Mill No 1, imagine its scent only much stronger, that is the scent these have. As I’m exploring more of the old school English snuffmakers, of course I am coming across lots of similar names. Apparantly the rules for what you can call a Kendal Brown, a Princes, etc. are pretty loose. I thought there was at least some agreement on what those terms meant. I have not had Wilson’s Kendal Brown, only F&Ts and G/H’s. This is really a lot of fun, but Its also getting confusing. My nose memory is being strained by all the snuffs I’m trying lately. I must be going too fast.

I forgot SG Yellow Crest unscented. Yes the Gawith Hoggarth KB is virtually unscented.

J&H Wilson’s SP No 1 - plain SP with a touch of bergamot. WoS Gold label and Tom Buck are nice plain Sps too. @ ermtony: Santo Domingo is perfumed (mainly sandalwood, I believe), but not as much as the rest of the F&T line.

I am curious to try the Dholakia Sparrow. I guess it’s plain at it’s mentioned here. I love the Cool. But is it natural in flavor? I mean, is it like WQS smokers blend? It seems it’d be more a HDT style. Which in a way, is plain too, but I don’t think it has a natural tobacco flavor, like the QWS, or Toque Natural, or even the TAXI Red/Blue. So, I guess when I started this thread, I was thinking natural tobacco flavor, like the QWS Smokers Blend, Toque Natual, which are both great, and even Rockit Naked, and maybe Grunt… as it does have a natural tobacco taste to me, but it then has a bit of flavor as well…

@ toffeenose - that’s right, some sandalwood in the Santo Domingo, but not a lot. Dholakia Sparrow Green tastes like plain tobacco to me. It’s just the different tobaccos and fermentation and ageing processes that give the wide variety of plain (and nearly plain) snuffs.

No the Sparrow is not a toast, it is a straight plain tobacco, finely ground and very good. You will like it since you like the cool, same tobacco.

Toque Quit is one of the best plain tobacco snuffs if you ask me. Rich tobacco flavour with a great nic hit. Stefan

I don’t have the Quit, but I do have the Natural. I’ll bring that and 2 other Toques with me to work tomorrow.
